Floyd was a good fighter, like some others, would have been better as a LHW or JHW.Probably in the top 3 fastest heavys.

A boxing tribute I made of Jake LaMotta, one of the most entertaining boxers of all time.
Unfortunately most of the footage is of a past prime LaMotta.
I agree that Patterson would've been close to unstoppable at light heavyweight although he would've eventually grown out of the division (he was around 190-200 lbs in the mid 60's).
A LHW fight between Patterson and Harold Johnson would've been a great match-up.Last edited by TheGreatA; 09-25-2008, 08:28 PM.Comment

Machine,
Thanks for honoring Floyd like you did.
My favorite heavyweight fighters were Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Liston and Louis.
But the older I get, the more fondness I've developed for Floyd. I'm not sure if it was his quietness, his heart or whatever. But ever since he passed, I've been reading as much about him as I can.
The other day, I watched the end of the Tracy Harris Patterson vs Thierry Jacob match up. After Tracy H Patterson won and was being jumped and embraced by the "hangers on" while the cameras were still rolling, Floyd stepped back out of the picture! Even though HE was the one who had spent the time training and forging Tracy, he allowed others the lime light.
In the interview, he said seeing his adopted son win the championship was the highlight of his life. Not winning in the Olympis, not winning and regaining the Heavyweight Championship of the World, but watching his son have his moment of glory was his best moment. That says volumes about what kind of a real MAN Floyd Patterson will always be.
I tried giving you good karma, but I have to spread it around some first. be on the lookout for some Floyd patterson great karm soon1Comment

I recently made a video tribute to one of my favorite boxers of all time, former heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson.
Most of the footage is from a document named 'the Floyd Patterson story', commented by Patterson himself, along with the fights I have of him against Archie Moore, Johansson, Ellis, Bonavena and Ali.
I looked for Patterson vs Henry Cooper which I used to have, it was a very good showing by Patterson but I couldn't find it anywhere.
The quality is poor, I couldn't upload it otherwise since it lasts almost 20 minutes.
I have made other boxing 'tributes' as well but I've always had a problem with uploading them. I'm not very good at making videos but since I have the footage I might as well share it.
Thanks for putting this up.
Floyd was a good man.
May he rest in peace.Comment

Wilfred Benitez against Antonio Cervantes, Ray Guerrero, Carlos Palomino and Sugar Ray Leonard.
The quality of the Palomino fight isn't too good and the Guerrero fight's audio is damaged.
I'll upload part 2 tomorrow, it includes Benitez' fights with Hope, Duran and Hearns.Comment

Thanks for posting those vids manchine. I havent watched a Benitez fight in over 15 years I guess. Your uploads are great but gives me a sad reminder of the 1,000 hours of fight tapes I lost 3 years ago when the cellar flooded.
You really should make new threads for those vids as it's not Patterson anymore and they do deserve to be seen by a lot of posters.Comment

I have a lot of boxing videos on my computer but there's almost no space left anymore and some old files have become corrupted...
Benitez is maybe the least known top fighter of the late 70's and early 80's. Being able to beat a long-reigning champion and hall of famer like Antonio Cervantes at age 17 is unbelievable, he was also a 3-division champion and is now in the boxing hall of fame, deservedly so.
He isn't in good shape though from all those fights he had, especially past his prime.
I try to make videos of the lesser known boxers and leave the Leonard, Ali and Mayweather highlight making for others who can do it better.
You really should make new threads for those vids as it's not Patterson anymore and they do deserve to be seen by a lot of posters.
This part of the forum doesn't get many views unfortunately, the arguments are a lot more 'civil' than in NSB.Last edited by TheGreatA; 10-06-2008, 04:29 PM.Comment

I think those vids are great and you should give others a better chance of finding those old gems.Comment

Floyd Patterson defends his world heavyweight title in a wild brawl against Tom McNeeley, the father of "Hurricane" Peter McNeeley who once fought Mike Tyson in Tyson's first fight after prison.
Patterson vs Tom McNeeley:
Tyson vs Peter McNeeley:
Very similar fights, except that the referees in the 60's were a little more lenient in letting the fights go on... Tom McNeeley was knocked down a total of 11 times by Patterson.Last edited by TheGreatA; 12-03-2008, 12:13 PM.Comment

Floyd Patterson was a very talented fighter, Gold Medalist in 1952 Helsinki (Middleweight). Started off as a LHW, but eventually moved up to heavyweight were he had a couple of dcent wins before winning his tilte eiminator against Tommy Jackson, then he and a faded Archie Moore fought fought the vacent title he Ko'd Moore in 5,he then made 4 defences before being ko'd by hard punching Ingemar Johansson, only to win the rematch winning by Ko himself, then repeated this again Ko'ing him in the trilogy bout. After another defencse he met a fighter who he could never hand Charles ''Sonny'' Liston getting Ko'd in both fights in the first round, ''he once stated he would like to figh Liston with no one watching just to see if he could get past the first round''.After a string of decent wins, he met the young Cassius Clay getting stopped in 12, then got a impressive win over Cooper, after he drew and lost to Jerry Quarry, and then after another decent string of wins met Ali again this time in 72 when he was over the hill, getting stopped in 7. Patterson was a very talented figher, his pik-aboo style could be very effective at times and at times showed alot of greatness. But he never enjoyed being in the spotlight, '' when people use to ask for autograph he would say i'am Floyd Patterson brother or something to that extent just so people wound't pester him or just so the limelight wound't be on him and think he got a bit better in later life. He died in 2006,due to Alzheimer's disease and prostate cancer he was 71.RIP.Comment
