I think Duran was being beaten and didnt like the way Leonad was mocking him. By quitting he made sure Leonard wouldnt get the credit for the win. It was Durans pride that wouldnt stand for such treatment.

Also, if it was just stomach cramps or an illness, why did Duran announce his retirement in the post fight interview? Surely he would demand a rematch.
It comes down to pride and humiliation.

Duran was not 100%. But Leonard still fought a great fight.
    i agree with you.

Get durans own book...still making excuses...Duran weight 188 at his biggest...Another think Leonard said he knew durans habits...meaning he did this all the time....this was nothing knew. Duran peaked during last few days of workouts..hmmmm

Just excuses...Duran had no cramps..no nothing only he was getting beaten,, and quit...

Also think....the fight was offered by Rays camp after one week down in Hawaii.... They did not wait until Duran ballonned up. However Duran always did this for all his fights..In the first fight he ballonned up to 183... The 230 pounds is an exaggeration as Durans book Hands of Stones documents..

I think you need to get your facts straight...There was no no mas...he said he is not fighting this clown...as this documentary says, and as I have been saying all along...He simply quit...Cramps ...where did he ever hold his stomach...It is a joke that grown men sit home and whine that he quit due to cramps...grow up people.

Had duran won you never would have heard anything, because duran did this for all his fights......but once he lost...hmmm duran balloned up, duran was not focused...etc... Quit whinning. He is a professional he got paid millions of dollars he had his chance 11/25/80 and he got his head boxed off, and quit instead of taking his beating like a man. Leonard simply boxed him this time and he became frusterated..

At an after dinner speaking event Duran was doing recently, he said he'd hadn't trained properly for the fight.

Look at what he said before the fight? Also, only people that whin care about what is said....It is what they do inside the ring. They both are professionals, they both know the date...there is no excuses to be made...Duran simply was getting beat, became frusterated and quit. Plain and simple.

Good Post Pink..... I did some checking and everything you have posted has panned out. I do think Duran is greater than Leonard, but it is very close in my opinion. They both were great for boxing, duran did it the hard way, which is another reason why Duran has so many that pledge allegance to Duran.
