So many people on this forum work out and think their muscle mass can protect them in a fight but if someone can throw their weight into a punch, even if it's a girl, they can **** you up, end of story.

Ask yourselves this, if Tyson really hit as hard as his hardcore fans claim, why did he never kill anyone or end a career in the way that Marciano did with scary regulairty? Marciano was putting people into comas and ruining their careers with consistency. When Tyson knocked a guy out, it made for a brutal and exciting night but those guys usually continued on to do other things. With Marciano it was usually the end of your career. And he couldn't even hit you as often or as accurately as Tyson did.
Tyson lunged into his punches far more than Marciano did, Marciano while sometimes lunged into his, most of the time it was hip punches up close.

The reason Tyson doesn't "kill guys" is because of the gloves, Marciano used smaller leather gloves, Tyson Used Impact dulling larger gloves. Tyson frequently put guys to sleep with one punch, Marciano continuously pounded on his opponent's so when they dropped they were to exhausted to get up eventually.

Other fighter's of Marciano's time said he wasn't the hardest hitter. One boxer (forget his name) also said "Patterson" hit harder. For a comparison, from the words of Cus d' amato Tyson hit much harder than Patterson.

If it's one thing that described Marciano, It's over rated.

You do realise that anyone can get killed in a Boxing FIGHT, so that doesn't really mean much as it only takes a few hits that land on the forbidden spots to change or even end lives.

Another thing too is when fighters have been seriously injured and killed in the ring, it hasn't been from devastating power resulting in an early knockout, it's been from an accumulation of punches that have landed over an entire fight or most of the fight. Tyson knocked a lot of guys out early that weren't beat on round after round. Also, it's been shown (throughout history) that only a small percentage of fighters that have been handed an ass whoopin, have been seriously injured. That's why no fighter has caused those types of serious injuries upon other fighters with regularity.

Not that he didnt punch hard, in his era marciano was possibly the hardest puncher around, but he was also relentless which batterd his opponents into submission.

              Your Thoughts Please

So then a 7 ' 320 lb Nikolay Valuev must hit a lot harder than Tyson right?

Yea that's a ****** comparison Nikolay punches like someone from the prehistoric age. I'm sure he still punches harder than Marciano, it took so many punches from Marciano to actually take a guy with quality down.

Tyson uses every muscle in his body to generate power. If Nikolay did that then Yes he would hit harder, but the truth is he is to awkward to do that.

Don't quote me on this but I think horsehair is a bit more dense than the stuffing they use now thus making them less padded. Could be wrong tho'.
