I just wish Lewis would have fought Tyson earlier, because Tyson peaked quicker than a lot of other guys.
At the time lewis didn't want to fight him though, he thought he was an "animal".
Judging by what happened in the sparring ring I can see why.
Well how could have Lewis fought him earlier? By the time Tyson lost his title to Douglas Lewis had what? 6-7 pro fights? When it did come time for them to fight, after Tyson was released from prison, Tyson dropped his WBC instead of facing Lewis and fought the much feared Bruce Seldon.

I wish we could erase that second Tyson. lol It would have been better for his legacy if he would have just died in prison. lol It just goes to show how incredible Tyson was compared to Lewis when you look at how far ahead Tyson was in terms of his career. Tyson was the undisputed heavyweight champion with around 7 defenses when Lewis was going to the Olympics. Speaking of Seldon, he sure looked good coming up until Bowe knocked him out. lol

Well, to be totally honest, I think some of the problems in his second career he was getting very bad advice from somewhere. I'd say Don King had a hand in the way things went too(Well up until the point Tyson sued him and all of that). I don't think Tyson 'ducked' Lewis, but one never knows. But for whatever reason Tyson chose to drop the belt and go after Seldon and we all know what that fight looked like.

Yeah, what a huge mistake it was for him to jump into a title shot based off his performances against McNeely and Mathis. He couldn't even hit Mathis with a clean shot for three rounds. When you win the title, you have to be ready to fight anyone in the world. Tyson wasn't.

It wouldn't surprise me if he did duck Lewis, presuming Tyson him self knew he wasn't ready for that fight. But if that was the case, he never should have rushed into being the champion again so soon. Now looking back at it all, he never had the intentions to fight everyone when he regained the title. He was hand picking his opponents. He lost every desire to be a champion after Holyfield whooped him. That's evidenced by the long layoffs between fights along with weak opposition. From that point on he was fighting for money. He's lucky he caught Botha with that shot or he might have lost that fight. I still think he was better off dead. lol

Well, I think post-Cus/Rooney/Cayton/Jacobs, Tyson is the most mismanaged fighter of this generation. And its all thanks to that piece of excriment, Don King. Granted King makes great fights happen but all the other underhanded nonsense he does totally takes away from any miniscule positive he contributes.
The way he treated, and took advantage of, Mike Tyson is so monstrously outrageous it borders on funny. He totally ruined Mike Tyson, that much cannot be argued.

That's true, and it was all Tysons fault. It's the job of the manager to get all the money he can from the promoter. So, in effect it's the manager and fighter on one team and the promoter on the other. What King convinced Mike of doing was to get his friends to manage his career. King knowing that they were clueless could control everything. I'm sure King convinced Mike the reason to use them as managers was because they had been there from day one and they were the only ones left that Tyson could trust. When Rory Holiway(SP?) and John Horn first became Tysons business partners, HBO interviewed them and Rory said: "....what we don't know we are learning from Don King, who is the best" That statement shows King had every opportunity to run the show how he pleased. Later in life Tyson turns around and sues them all. lol Tyson will always be used as an example of what not to do.

Man all of the stuff Don King did, and perpetuated, against Tyson is so outrageous it leaves you speechless when you read about it. As for Rory Holloway and John Horne, those two are just as bad. Supposed best friends of Tyson who use him so completely it makes you sick.
he was lewis' trainer of course he will try and blowup his accomplishments
His Blowing up Tysons accomplishments. After the fight he talks to tyson during the interview of lewis, saying his is his favourite fighter, one of the best and the most exciting fighter in the last 20 years. When lewis was asked if he wished the fight happend earlier he said " Tyson was King back then noone could stop him, but im like fine wine i matured as i got older" Lewis was first to admit he didnt fight a prime tyson
