Trinidad was not a slugger, he was a boxer/puncher with devastating power. A slugger wades in with his punches mixing it up. Trinidad used precise combinations to create openings for his knock outs.

I dont think calling Trinidad a 'slugger' is that bad. He was a pressure fighter with a low workrate who threw bombs. Obviously he had a lot of skill, particularly when it came to setting up his shots, but all 'sluggers' at the highest level have to to make it. but maybe this is just a ****** terminology argument that I dont want to get into because its superfluous.

he definitely did leave himself open to clean blows often. Which made him entertaining as hell.

Why? He didn't throw reckless punches looking to land bombs, he didn't wade in with abandon, he boxed with power.

You are very welcome........ and to think,...... some of my posts have over 500 words or more in them. Tito was up near the top 5 mark in the last 20 years...... Hard to say exactly where..... and most people don't seem to understand that he was never a true Middleweight, not like that huge specimen and NOTABLE that I have in my signature....ANOTHER EMERALD GREEN PLUG...........subliminal.

Wouldnt you call Mayorga a brawler?

'boxer puncher' suggests that the fighter likes to use the ring, movement, and distance, but also had a lot of power when they sat down on their punches. Thats more a Wilfredo Gomez style to me.

Trinidad didnt fight like that to me.

brawler/slugger same deal. both want to take your head off...

far as tito, i suppose you haven't watch him enough then. it wasn't until the twilight of his career that he just turned into a head hunter.
