Thanks I appreciate you having a read through and for the kind comments.

I’ve based it on who I think would beat who in their prime mainly rather than legendary status or overall career hence a lot of the modern bigger guys are ranked pretty high. Feel free to try to do your own list ... it’s really tough!

      • "Worst" seems a funny word to use to describe the tenth best HW ever.

        • 1 - Muhammed Ali - Had blinding speed before his exile from boxing, missed what is the prime of most fighters career, came back after a 4 year absence, and regained the heavyweight crown. He could knock you out, out box you, and had one of the best chins as well.

          2 - Rocky Marciano - Undefeated....drop mic.

3 - Joe Louis - Probably one of the most fundamentally sound fighters of all time, with a lightning overhand right.

4 - Gene Tunney - The fighting marine, so yeah, I'm biased here. But to quote a dimwitted politician, C'mon man! 85 fights and 1 loss? He fought guys like Sharkey and Dempsey, who he beat twice.

5 - Larry Holmes - Was Ali's sparring partner, and it showed. Easily the most underrated, underappreciated champion of all time. Best jab ever.

6 - Mike Tyson - Most intimidating boxer to step in the ring. Who knows how far he would have gone if Cus didn't die. Was a much better technician than given credit for.

7 - Sonny Liston - 2nd most intimidating fighter of all time. He had Patterson shaking in his shoes. He had knocked fighters down with his jab. He could've gone further if he hadn't ran into a guy named Clay.

8 - George Foreman - Arguably one of the hardest punchers in history. And intimidating, until he ran into the same guy Liston did.

9 - Vlad Klitschko - Yeah, yeah, I know, he's boring, he never fought anybody, blah, blah, blah. 64 wins, 53 KO's, and the record for most unified title defenses in history with 13.

10 - Lennox Lewis - Only lost twice and beat both fighters in a rematch. 'nuff said.

Definitely in at least the top twelve. I've got him at 11. He's my favourite old timer to watch, the Willard slaughter never gets old for me **

              • I like Larry Holmes too but he fought in a very weak era in boxing.

                • Looking back on my list from 15 years ago (2007), the only thing I'd change is the tail end: I'd put Mike Tyson in at 11th and Lennox Lewis in at 12th, dropping Harry Wills and Jersey Joe Walcott out of the Dynamite Dozen.

                    - - It was strong in talent, but richer in nose candy and aptly Lar wanted no part of that WBA talent.

I've already disected and destroyed this thought process. During Holmes reign there were 8 WBA champions with a total of 4 defenses between them. Who and when was he supposed to fight one of them? And when he did try to fight one of them the fight fell apart through no fault of his own. Stop trying to rewrite history Queenie.
