All I can go on are write ups of the fights back in the day, just like people in the future can read about Hagler's exploits should all video footage be lost....that and the names on his resume, some of which can be seen on film. From all indications, his style would have given Hagler fits.

Hagler was never dominated his entire career, his draw with vito was bs, his loss to leonard was disputable and he crushed most of his opponents.

Right now, for me, it's Lamon Brewster....just love his heart. You can't help it man. You just gotta love these guys who put it all on the line, ya know. And when your guy loses..it hurts. Hell I remember watching Ali lose the first Leon Spinks fight and felt like it was me...and I was jsut a kid at the time. Felt similar when Toney lost to Jones; but I ended up having so much respect for Jones that I got over it. It goes on and on....boxing, you gotta love it. No other sport even comes close to being as personal.
THE SINGLE GREATEST SPORT IN THE WORLD! Watching Gatti vs Ward and stuff like that makes me Proud to be a human being!

What about Willie Monroe in their first fight?

he owned him later twice and hagler wasnt a big star back then, if u want to talk about hagler's early career, what about armstrong's career, drawing and losing to random nobodies.

            from 77-86 hagler was unbeatable

The point I was making is you said "never" without clarifying you were referring to his title reign...which brings us back to competiton. It has more or less been pointed out that the 1980's weren't a great decade for middlweights, not as good as the 1970s, the 1940's or the 1920's really. The 80's were a pretty weak era, so what does it mean that Hagler dominated a weak era like Hopkins did....compared to former champs who dominated eras where the talent pool was deeper?

In just about every sport the people get better. There bigger and stronger Baseball players, Football players, Basketball players, Tennis, Golf, you name it, and there just better.

                Except boxing!

The reason I say that is that their were way more fighters years ago. The 3 main sports for years was baseball, horse racing and boxing. If you weren't small you can forget about being a jockey. Baseball only had 16 teams and most of the players had to work in the off season. Boxing was a sport that you could make good money at any size.

Just go to "boxrec" and look how many boxing cards there were this year in say New York. Then go back to 1920, 1930, 1940, 1950 or all the way back to start of boxing and you will see the difference. Young men can now play Football, Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Hockey and make millions, so why should they fight when they can play ball. Years ago they had boxing gym's in every city, and some cities had a lot of them. Today your lucky to find a gym in any town except the big cities.

Years ago in the Amateur Tournaments, someone had to box as many as 5 or 6 times before they reached the finals. Today, they have just 1 or 2 bouts and they are there. Some even just have 1 bout, and that is in the finals or they are what they call a "Walkover Champion."

Today, the Greatest could have been boxers, might be playing in the NFL.

I am not saying that the old timers were better, BUT I am saying that there was much more competition then there is today.

The 80's were awesome, it's just todays era that is garbage, well except 135-160 lbs, they will always be good.
