I cannot think of a single middleweight in history (except maybe a prime SRR) who I would favour over RJJ in his prime. You can talk about applying pressure and all, but you have to catch up the guy first. No one applies consistent pressure to RJJ in his prime simply because his feet are the best in the game. Hagler could pressure, but frankly he was not fleet of foot - he wouldn't stand a chance. He would get potshotted right and left as he tried to corner Jones, and eventually clinched if he ever did.
Its true that no one ever successfully applied constant pressure to Jones. Yet u could argue...who did he fight? Hagler could have applied that pressure and as already stated, Jones would always back up onto the ropes or into a corner and let his opponent throw everything.
Hagler was a different class of opponent. It wasnt just that he was tough, his defense was subtle, at range he wasnt easy to hit at all, and he picked his shots very well.
I think the main point is that Hagler was a great southpaw, with a long hard jab that he could throw all night. Thats wat would give Jones real trouble.

        - -Yep , in modern day fanboy world everyone is on drugs.

Kids, what's we gonna do with them?

        Do drugs I guess.

I'm picking Roy as a bigger Marv fan. Marv worked hard to learn his craft with setbacks, but Roy was born into it from inception.

I thought that the Hoff's Ghost had returned, must have been seeing things.

Hagler was too slow and plodding for a fighter like Roy. Jones just has too much natural ability for Haglers work man type of style. Even before Hagler fought Leonard. Jones UD-12 Hagler

But a ready to go James would have given Jones all that he could handle on that night, and maybe then some...……...…...Rockin'

So you think a fit Toney could handle Roy but not Hagler? Really?

Roy is to big and to fast, its not even a legit fight unless at a catchweight.

Halfwits, since when are mythical matchups 12 rounds. Maybe you like 4 rounders even more.

Roid Monger Jones never cared to test himself hard. Hagler would be a bridge too far for Johnny.

                    Isn’t it mind boggling?

Roy Jones and Toney fought, Roy made him look like a white collar boxer and yet we have people saying Hagler is “too much of a plodder” to have a chance with Roy yet a “fit Toney” gives him all he can handle

                    It’s pure insanity.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you guys on this too and was what I first thought when reading that. At his physical prime, Roy is going to be too much for Toney.

Speaking of Roy Jones, how do you guys think he does in his exhibition fight against Tyson in September? I think he might have a shot at a decision win, but he was stopped at cruiser in 2015, but on the up side, he did last fight in 2018, while Mike hasn't been in the ring since 2005.

Is Mike's power, combined with speed and Roy's loss of athletic ability a recipe for disaster for Jones? It might be the first 3-4 rounds.
