Boxing in ma opinion is betta than MMA. But that jest me. By the way, Botha has been embarrased several times in both MMA and K1. His fight against Mighty Mo was simply a tragedy for Botha. Botha losing in MMA is more acceptable though. even vs a 180 lbs guy. Like I said before, ground fighting , and especially vs an experienced judoka is a nightmare for anybody. Learn before talking... These guys have practiced some of these disciplines since they were little kids. this isn't something you learn in a couple of month or even in 2 or 4 years of training. Fedor emelianenko has been specialised in sambo since a long time..Also, You can't become a top bjj artist black belt with some training...It doesn't work that way.. The UFC used to have a pro BJJ artist called Frank Mir. And even He was a pure joke when compared to the BBJ elite , Antonio rodrigo nogueira. (brazilian fighter who started this discipline since he was a kid. He's one of Pride's best fighters).

I enjoy MMA, although not nearly as much as boxing. I did Judo for 3 years and Wrestled for 5. I respect MMA fighters, but still maintain that a world class boxer could take out damn near any of them. Put a skilled counterpuncher in there, and there would be no ground game. With those small gloves, it wouldn't matter how much Jui-Jitsu they know, a knockout is a knockout. So many of those guys who are so-called "strikers" are so tentative in there to a point where they don't land punches. Still, MMA interests me, as do all combat sports. Boxing is just the best. :boxing: Nonsense.. a world class boxer wouldn't last a minute..If you really did wrestling for 5 years you'd know that the boxing stance is the worst of all for mma type fights. The fastest puncher in the world, the strongest one..wouldn't last long..A prime tyson would be delt with in no time... What the fuck is a boxer gonna do, when the wrestler shoots for the legs? NOTHING!...his fucking punches won't stop anything because they can't reach so low to begin with. If you really did wresltling and judo you'd know this. This is a sport where the shittiest punchers in the world can beat the top ones because they don't have to deal with strikes.

What I'm saying, is in the standup, if a boxer is accurate and quick with his punches, he can catch a guy shooting for his legs. I'm not saying a boxer would win, but in the standup, he would have a distinct advantage. To seriously compete, you have to be well-rounded, and that's the idea with MMA. You can't just be a good striker or a good wrestler. You need to train in all facets of the fight game. Nonetheless, I'd love to see a skilled Cruiserweight fight Chuck Liddell in the standup, and see what happens. The problem with the fighter you mentioned (chuck liddell) is that the guy loves to trade punches. He's got a solid chin, and often throws some wild looping punches. A top cruiserweight would beat him for sure. Of course anything can happen. (afterall a KO is easier in mma since they have 4 oz gloves).. But Liddell wouldn't fr too well vs a pro striker (boxer). He lost at pride fc vs jackson (predominantly a wrestler who's got a very good standing defense..But his specialty are ground attacks and violent "slams".)...Liddell was outclassed by a wrestler. So a pro boxer would be even worse. You have to be well rounded in mma yes, but strikers are generally fucked in mma. Which is why, and I repeat it here again..It is often not surprising to see 180 lbs guys beating Heavy weights. (they just have to submit them.) Remember Botha? Whether He sucks or not , He's still a pro boxer. and the guy had one mma ruled fight vs a very small judoka...(akiyama was his name I think)... What the fuck did botha do? He tried to avoid the take down but couldn't do much even with his major weight advantage because the other guy kept aiming at Botha's legs...So botha ended on the ground and got subbed in the first round.

I don't follow MMA closely, you are right, but I can form judgements based on what I have seen, which is a good deal of K1 and UFC stuff. I have not watched any of the Pride events and will make it a point to check one out sometime. I know that the disciplines practiced are hard to master, and that some of the guys in MMA are skilled athletes. That does not mean I have to have any appreciation for the sport as a whole. I prefer boxing or even kickboxing over MMA, which if grappling is allowed usually results in two guys rolling around on the .floor. College wrestling requires a great deal of athletic skill but I will not watch it, why? Because it is boring as fuck. And my reference to drunk frat boys was meant for UFC fans, not the athletes, although watch drunk frat boys fight could be more entertaining than UFC. Fair enough. But Pride is more than just boring wrestling though. fighters are active on the ground. They're constantly going for subs, chokes, ground and pound, knee attacks etc.. The fighters in pride fc are not allowed to "lay and pray" too much (like they often do in the ufc.) when that happens, the fighters receive a "yellow card". (meaning they're deducting money from their pay check.)
