Possible Concussion?
I read that DiBella mentioned that Sergio had a possible concussion from one of the exchanges in Round 1. If that is true, then it explains a lot about Sergio's mobility while not having damage in the knee.
"Martinez's advisor, Sampson Lewkowicz, disagreed. He believes the barrage of left hooks that put Martinez (51-3-2, 28 knockouts) down for the first time left the former WBC middleweight champion out of sorts. His promoter, Lou DiBella, believes that Martinez may have suffered a concussion in those moments.
"He said he was out on his feet after the first round," DiBella said in a phone interview Sunday. "He felt his body wasn't the same after that. He felt disconnected. He never regained his after that."
If what happened is that Cotto got to Sergio cold early (as Sergio mentioned) with a left hook that concussed him and that led to Sergio never really getting into the fight while looking shot, then Cotto's win got even bigger if that's possible. Sergio did have a deer in the headlights look the whole fight and we never got to see him move around enough before the punch to see if the knee really was a factor.
Kudos to Cotto anyway, he did what he had too.
This would be great evidence if there wasn't a first round left hook that looked like it concussed Sergio. There is just no way to know, because everything happened so quickly and Martinez said he was caught cold, which is his mistake if he didn't break out a sweat before going in there. We've all seen fights were big punches are landed on the first round and the fighter is never the same in that fight, they never get their feet under them. The only thing different here is that the man had come of multiple knee surgeries. But we were all talking about how great he looked in the 24/7, at the weight in, in the public sessions. His team vouched he was 100% all the way and even more important, they did not make excuses after the fight and the MRI showed nothing was wrong. This probably wasn't prime Martinez, but it wasn't supposed to be prime Cotto in there as well.
Again, if he was in fact concussed, then his movements in the ring make perfect sense even if the knee is perfectly fine. He looked glass eyed the whole fight which supports the concussion theory as well.
I think he owes Pacquiao another shot if Pacquiao wants it...Pacquiao gave Marrquez three chances to beat him. Its only right for Marquez to give Pacquiao a chance to avenge his loss.
You are right, the division is up to 154 pounds. We all now that.
Pacquiao can come in at 150 pounds if he wants, but what we are trying to understand is why Cotto should be obligated to do so as well. Since, as you mentioned, the division is up to 154 pounds.
You just proved HOW dumb you are by stating the obvious. UP TO 154.
You can sit down and shut up too because you're on ignore.
