Honestly guys, nothing will ever change until the governing bodies and promoters learn to take care of their fighters outside of the ring. I'm good friends with several professional fighters and even they will tell you that often times, they have to put themselves first over the fans if it means maximizing their financial gain. These guys have families to feed and fighters don't get pension or retirement plans nor do they even get medical insurance. That all comes out of their pockets and they only get paid when they fight. What happens when an NBA player gets injured? He gets his full salary and a courtside view. When a boxer gets injured, he gets nothing.
Obviously guys like Pacman and Mayweather have made more than ridiculous amounts of money and it would be great if they would focus more on quality opponents rather than the most profitable fight, but the only way to change this behavior is if the governing bodies, promoters, and managers make their fighters feel assured that they will be reasonably protected if they take on the biggest challenges.
Sosa??????? $$$$$? Na!!!!
Kameda is probably a bigge draw in japan than Sosa is in Mexico!
Since they both lost their last fights, I think Sosa should rematch Viloria and then the winner can fight Kameda. It would be a good opportunity for all 3 guys to prove their worth.
Nice man!
Your judging my response to you, when you called Berto a little bitch for not fighting when his country is in ruins, and 8 of his family members are dead.. I hope someone in this world is not that ignorant.
LOL @ saying it to your face.. I dont get into the internet tough guy wars e-gangster. Chill the **** out.
Haha I like how you turn this around on me like I'm the one trying to act all badass. I merely gave my opinion on a boxing issue. You're the one who started calling me a piece of shit - but I'm the e-ganster?. Do you even know what the term ignorant is? Look it up, dude.
If I said something along the lines of Berto being a bitch because he was using his country's crisis as an excuse to duck Mosley, than I can see how I would deserve a lashing from you guys. But like I said, I feel Berto has the opportunity to turn a negative into a positive and he's bitching out of it. The people of Haiti don't have the opportunity to take a time out to grieve for their loved ones and there are Haitians much less fortunate than Berto who are working themselves to death trying to do their part.
It's all perspective bro and this is mine.
Floyd had no choice
As much of an asshole as Floyd can be, you gotta admit he does make some valid points on this one. He blatantly ducked Margarito when he fought Baldomir. He blatantly ducked Cotto when he "retired". But in this case I honestly don't think he ducked Manny at all, especially being that he agreed to the $1 million per pound penalty of each overweight pound. Also he agreed to fight Shane Mosley, and that's gonna be an even harder fight for Floyd than Manny would have been.....just WATCH!
Floyd had no choice out there but to take on Mosley in order to avoid anymore negative press. After the Manny fallout, his only legit choice was Mosley. I guess an overrated Paul Williams could have been an option but Floyd probably would've complained that he's too tall. Mosley is Floyd's saving grace.
Hate to disappoint you but that's not going to happen. All Pacman had to do was stop using steroids for this one fight and he would have a $40,000,000 payday. After this fight he could easily resume juicing back up.
And the ignorance continues...
Donaire is an ass!
This is another pathetic attempt from the Donaires to sabotage Viloria. They can't stand the fact that Viloria is far more likeable and better-looking. My sources say the reason why Donaire can't get a fight is because no one wants to deal with that crazy bitch of a wife of his, Rachel. She is completely destroying his career with her diva-like ways. And, now here they are trying to take down other fighters with them. Karma is a bitch and the Donaires are already paying the price. Who the hell has Nonito fought since Darchinyan? NO ONE!!
My prediction
If Valero can get another one or 2 more wins under his belt against solid opposition, Mayweather and Pacquiao are going to "fight" over him in hopes of easily giving Valero his first loss. Whoever accomplishes this first is going to use that as leverage to demand a bigger share of the purse for the inevitable Floyd Pacman showdown.
Valero's style would be tailor-made for Floyd. This would be an another easy opportunity for Floyd to claim that he blemished another perfect record like he did with Hatton. And since Floyd is notorious for fighting smaller guys, then this is just another day at the office for him.
Pacman already has the confidence of being able to handle the punches from strong welterweights, therefore Valero will not likely pose a threat to him.
Valero will likely have to come up to 144-147 pounds which willl probably slow him down but he will be more than willing to fight either guy since it will be the biggest paycheck of his career and there is absolutely nothing to lose. A loss to either Floyd or Pac will not hurt his career.
You're forming your opinion strictly based on the rules and structure of the sport which is flawed, just like our constitution. Just because there are no height limitations, it doesn't make it right.
Making a comparison to the Klitschkos and Paul Williams is just stupid and makes no sense. A 4-5 inch height advantage in the lower divisions has a much more significant impact than in the higher divisions. It gives an unfair advantage. Why the hell do you think the lower divisions are only 3-4 pounds apart? It's because the smallest difference in weight can have a significant impact when you only weigh 105-126 pounds.
Why else do you think Donaire weight drains and dehydrates himself? He does it because of the height advantage he gets. If his height wasn't a factor at all then he would fight at a weight that was more comfortable.
i don't like paul williams but maybe since paul felt a bigger punch he's thinking i better head south in the weight classes.but he's does'nt need to settle a score with martinez. he officially won the fight.we're not the judges
Dude what are you talking about? By your silly line of thinking, what would be the point in ever having a rematch? That was a great fight and a lot of people (including me) feel that Martinez kicked his ass and deserves a second fight. And you are WRONG. Boxing fans are the true and final judges of the sport. We are the reason why rematches are necessary.
A proud filipino
I'm a proud filipino and even I'll admit that Sonsana had no chance against Vasquez and he had this coming. He is an overrated cocky fighter and that stupid hairstyle of his doesn't help.
He gives filipino fighters a bad reputation not because he lost but because of his attitude. All this crap about starting camp when he finally felt like it just proved detrimental. No heart.
Amir Khan is NOT 5'10 more like 5'8, 5'9. Always said that.
I can guarantee you he is at least 5'10. I've personally met the guy and shook his hand. I think the picture you're looking at is a bit deceiving.
Don't retire
I don't think Viloria should retire. There's still decent money to be made before he hangs up his gloves. Not sure how many of you saw his fight but Brian was winning decisively until he got gassed in the 8th-9th round.
I felt like the stoppage was a bit premature but ultimately for the best because Viloria would have lost even if he managed to survive the entire 12th round. The judges scorecards had the fight way closer than it really was and assuming they would've counted the 12th round 10-8 for Tamara, then Viloria would have most likely lost anyway.
I still think there some good fights for Viloria out there. Third fight against Omar Nino? Or even a rematch with Sosa or Solis. And if he can get by one or 2 of these guys maybe he can get another shot at Calderon or perhaps a fight with Koki Kameda.
Not happening
hahaha the Donaire Montiel fight is not going to happen, just watch. So far, Montiel hasn't shown any interest in this supposed fight that is already scheduled. Nonito is gonna be left out in the cold again. Maybe he can get a fight with Calderon:) lol
Agreed
He is a World Champion so stop acting like he is a prospect.
Couldn't agree more. You can't fight for a title, win the title, and then b**** out because you're not ready. All this talk craptalk about first building up steam for a Khan vs Maidana fight is ridiculous since no one even knows who Maidana is.
Fighting JMM is an extremely strategic move that is profitable only in the short term. I think Khan will actually beat Marquez and after that, they'll probably pit him against someone like Malignaggi or maybe even Juan Diaz (i.e. girls who can't punch), thus catapulting him to the elite division without any true merits to him. Golden Boy will do everything they can to make as much money before putting him the ring with talented but less profitable fighters who pose a risk (i.e. Ortiz, Bradley, Maidana, etc).
I don't give a s*** how young this guy is. If you're holding the title, you need to man up to anyone they put in front of you. Khan is being built up as a prizefighter without earning his stripes and this is what's wrong with boxing today.
this is why you never listen to the crowd and you dont get caught up in being undisciplined. It cost him his big payday with Calderon and set his career back once again.
And to think JReckoning had the nerve to tell me he stopped choking when it mattered.
Viloria is nothing more than a decent contender, and thats all hell ever be.
The Calderon fight is probably no longer going to happen, but Viloria showed that he can still fight - he just executed the wrong gameplan in the final rounds.
He can still redeem himself. A rematch with Solis or Sosa wil get him back in the game - or even a fight with that aarogant fukkin jap Koki Kameda.
Berto is a B****!!!
And if for whatever reason Berto can't go to Haiti, then he should continue with the fight and donate his entire purse to some kind of relief fund.
Find your own damn trainer
Donaire can't seem to find a stable trainer in anybody. Robert Garcia already has his hands full with Viloria and Luevano for January 2010. I bet his crazy wife has something to do with it.
NIce to hear for Clottey starts training! Meaning, his coach visa settled already! And what a goodwill for Arum for US$1 per ticket to Haiti victims.. but I think this is relatively small! If most fights fought at MGM Grand with an average of 45,000 people.. I think it could hardly get US$1 Million within a year! Why not other promoters would do the same just this year alone let's say US$3 per ticket? But better if they would continue through out so an aid for this kind of catastrophy just in case, is ready anytime, let's say US$1/ticket each bout!:boxing:
I could not agree more. I guess it's the thought that counts but come on. Top Rank can do better than that. Boxing events with ticket sales that reach 45k-50k people happen maybe 2-3 times a year, if even that. Therefore, if you factor in, every single event that Top Rank promotes (including parking lot venues), you're looking maybe at 250k-300k tickets sold during the whole year. At $1 for every ticket, that's about $300k paid through an 11 month period. That's chump change!
So Original!
yeah if pac beat mayweather and mosley then hes the best but these dudes want to shove down our throat that mnanny is the best regardless, its absurd, it hasnt played out yet. i think boxing named manny pnd for pnd number 1 very prematurley, how do you become the best after beating delahoya, hatton, after mayweather did that and others?? those guys werent even top 10.its absurd, the truth is manny sells boxing needed a hero and mannyis the "it " man as good as he is.somebody needs to put asses in the seats so manny took the torch from delahoya, manny is the biggest ppv star , but all the other crap they name him is yet to be proven.pnd for pnd 1 my asss!!!!!
Wow there's an original argument we haven't heard in about 10 minutes. Did you come up with that all by yourself? haha
A tune-up
What is all this crap about a tune-up fight for Donaire? He hasn't fought anyone decent since the first fight with Vic. Every guy Donaire fights is a tune-up.
I'm not gonna blame Donaire directly because I understand there's a lot of politics in the sport, but this guy needs to be fighting top guys if he's going to keep headlining PPVs.
Guys like Caballero, Donaire, and PWilliams need to accept the fact that no one wants to fight them in their desired divisions because they are too freakin tall. If they don't suck it up and just move up in weight, their careers are just gonna catch up with their age eventually.
Berto is a B****!!!
This is a lame excuse not to fight. Unless Berto is planning to go to Haiti to help is people (a lot of non-Hatians flew out), this is not a good excuse to cancel the fight. If anything, he should continue as planned and dedicate this fight to his countrymen.
Sorry, but no sypmpathy from me and I think he's being a little b**** about it. "Boo hoo I'm too sad and worried about my people so I'm gonna cancel my fight and grieve about them in my lavish home in the U.S." Forget about all the people who are either homeless or injured from the earthquake and are still suffering.
Might not happen
hmmm I don't know guys. Don't be surprised if this fight doesn't happen. Donaire has a history of being avoided by everyone.
Why do I say this? Ever since their recent wins, there's been a lot of talk about a Donaire Montiel clash and all that talk has been coming from everyone accept for Montiel. Has anyone noticed that he hasn't really expressed any interest or anticipation in fighting Donaire?
I want this fight to happen really bad but I wouldn't be shocked if an article comes out with Montiel saying he hasn't agreed to anything yet.
Donaire is a joke!
I'm a proud filipino but Donaire is still nothing but a hype-job so far. How difficult is it to defeat opponents when you're a foot taller than them? Donaire and Manny are the same height and at 27 years old, Manny was already fighting at superfeatherweight while this fool is still fighting midgits at 115. What a joke! Donaire does show talent and skill but until he starts getting in the ring with guys his size, I'll never become a believer.
Here's my other beef with Donaire. Who the hell did he sleep with to get ranked in the P4P list above guys like Juan Manuel Lopez, Miguel Cotto, or even Shane Mosley? Are you freakin kidding me? Especially, Juanma Lopez, who is not only undefeated, but has knocked out so many legit contenders (i.e. Penalosa, De Leon, Luevano, Concepcion, etc)
Yes it's a nice gesture but do the Donaires have to make a public announcement every time they make a charitable donation. It's commendable to donate $7,500 but that's hardly worthy of a press release.
mofo palease!!!! Someone tell pac to stop having welters melt down to accommodate his ass. Pac fights at welter but only if they are Handicap matches.. the welter weight limit for pac is 141-143 what a ****ing joke.
Who did Pac fight from 141-143 you idiot? How many catch weights has Pac fought under the 147? Only once you dips***. What weight is Pac fighting next? 147 you ignorant fool!
