Japan’s popular WBC flyweight champion Koki Kameda (22-0, 14 KOs) is mapping out 2010. He plans to make the first defense of his title against mandatory challenegr Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (74-3-1, 39 KOs) of Thailand in late March or early April.
Former junior flyweight champion Edgar Sosa is moving up and his team is trying to get a crack at Kameda in July. Sosa plans to return in May for his first fight since the two-round TKO defeat to Rodel Mayol. Kameda is very open to fight and plans to pursue it after he makes his defense against Wonjongkam.
Another player in the mix is Daisuke Naito (35-3-3, 22KOs), who Kameda beat last for for the title in one of the biggest fights to be staged on Japanese soil. The fight drew a 43.1 rating in the country, which blew away even some of Japan's most popular programs. Naito is not planning to retire and wants a rematch with Kameda. Right now there isn't as much interest in the rematch for Koki but he may pursue it near the end of the year or early next year, as there is a lot of money in the fight.
