Come on -- People give Valuev a bad wrap and don't give him much credit.
I want to see him get through this fight so he can have some real fights and finally prove himself.
His last loss was just a bad day.
Everyone has bad days.
No one was giving him any practice.
He just got a bit complacent.
C-Drone, yeah -- I think he's rather quick for such a big guy..
and kswizzy99, the guy can only do what he can do. He doesn't get to choose the fights, he only gets to choose whether he accepts them or not -- and I am sure he'd fight anyone if he got the chance. All he's trying to do is get that chance.
If you ask me the big promoters are scared to let him in the ring, so they keep screwing him around.
He'll get there and I'll support him all the way, no matter if he's fighting Chagaev in a rematch or Pippi Longstocking :)
Klitchsko?

From what I can see here, all he did was wear "himself" out and then when he was out of breath he got punched all over the ring like a little girl until he fell flat on his face and had to be saved by the ref.
He couldn't knock granny off a piss-pot. If he can't wear down a pygmy, how on earth is he going to wear down Valuev?
Well -- check this out:

Valuev punched Barrett around like a girl guide. One of the comments on that page says that Valuev knocked him out with nothing more than a jab.
Nah -- I'm convinced. No one will be beating him. He's going straight to the top. I don't care how hungry or smart the 5'+ 6' boxers are.
Well, not that I am any boxing guru or anything. All I know is that I saw him on CNN a few days ago he's fighting someone named Barrett or something right? So I looked him up on youtube and man he is HUGE! He wouldn't even have to know how to box -- he's just so tall -- all he has to do is swing his arms. He's pretty quick too. I watched about 5 of his fights on youtube, and for a big guy he can really get stuck into people. Anyways -- does anyone know.. is he going to start fighting in the U.S.? For the heavyweight championship -- The same title Mike Tyson had?
By the way, Mike Tyson is finished. Like I said, I'm not a boxing guru -- but I saw that last fight of Tyson (he fought that other big guy.. what's his name?).. I think Valuev would knock Tyson silly, because he's even bigger than that guy Tyson fought. Even when Tyson was in his prime, I don't think he would be Valuev. No one will beat Valuev. Look at the head on him! Looks like it's made from BRICK!
Well, if and when the fight comes I'll put everything I own + loans on Valuev. If he's the best there is, I may as well go put some shorts and boots on myself.
I've been doing some reading about Valuev. It seems that it's not that he wants to fight bums, it's that he hasn't had much of a chance to fight anyone better. He was banned from coming to the U.S. and fined 180,000.00 because he couldn't make it to a fight that was set up around 9/11 because international air travel was restricted. Plus he is loyal to his trainer which causes him to get less fights, plus all the top guys wont fight him.
If you were one of the top U.S. heavyweights would you rather fight someone on home soil for huge money at a big highly publicized fight or would you rather go to Germany and fight some neutral guy in some fight that no one really knows about for a fraction of the money?
One of Valuev problems is that he has been highly restricted. I think he'll finally get up. It's not that he can't beat the bigger guys or that he just wants to fight bums or that he WONT fight them. He hasn't had the chance.
Valuev is a working boxer who has accepted every fight put in front of him. He hasn't picked and chosen. He has been in Australia, Japan, Germany and the U.S. -- If he's offered a fight he just steps up and he is undefeated.
Sorry, but I don't get it. What class is he fighting now? And what's the organization he needs to fight in to win the heavyweight championship of the world? The same Belt that Tyson held?
Is that WBA? ..
Regarding Barrett.. he's 6'3" ..
W 31 (17 ko's) | L 5 | D 0 | Total 36
He hasn't lost every fight. He has won most of his fights and most by KO.
"In August of 1996, Barrett made his professional debut in Yonkers, N.Y., in spectacular fashion by knocking out Jamal Edward in one round. This was followed by 20 straight wins including victories over former world heavyweight champion Greg Page and former heavyweight contender Phil Jackson. The win over Jackson gave Barrett the World Boxing Council Continental Americas heavyweight title.
This title catapulted Barrett into the world heavyweight title picture. The eyes of the boxing world were now zooming in on him."
Well, hmm.. maybe I should start taking bets :)
I just can't see how anyone can beat him. These 5 guys you're talking of -- who are they and how tall are they? Even if they're 6' -- I think it would be hard to beat a guy 7' -- and then you have to find a 6' boxer that can "fight".. there are many boxers that are like 5'8 maybe 5'10 that can smash 6' boxers all over the ring -- but those 5'8-5'10 boxers wont beat Valuev because he's just too tall and heavy.
I think that ANY boxer to beat him would have to be at LEAST 6' and he'd have to be a 6' boxer than can smash another 6' boxer all over the ring. Anyway, I am going for Valuev when he fights. I don't know who he's fighting, but I heard something about Don King and I think he's going to make it to the top.
Also Tyson didn't lose to McBride because he was too small, it was because he was too old and had no desire to train anymore. The guy was well, well past his prime. He easily KO'ed bigger and much better men than McBride in his prime.
Yeah true. I think I recall Tyson saying himself; that he doesn't have it in him anymore -- and yes, getting a bit long in the tooth doesn't help. Plus his brain is messed up from being locked up. It's hard to make a comeback after 5 years of being locked up. Age -- his past -- less stamina -- financial problems -- brain problems all contributed imho. However, that all amounts to being tired, so I just left it at that. He wouldn't have been "tired" 10 years ago (or even 5) for lack of all the above reasons. It's a pity about Tyson; a wasted life. He even said it himself.
A fighter like Klitchsko would kill him. He is big enough to not be completely pushed around and has the boxing ability and power to dominate him. Valuev is just a big slow ogar that doesn't have impressive power for his size. Klitchsko would wear him out.
I really don't think Valuev is slow. For a guy that size, I would expect him to be throwing his arms around like a sloth. But he is quite fast. That's one of the very things that made me latch onto him so quick.. I saw him and thought: "Yeah he's big".. but then I saw that he can throw barrages of blows and in quick succession.. and that if he sees his opponent get tired he throws WHOPPING loop punches with his whole bodyweight behind them.. and extends the punch until he's almost on a 45 degree angle. Man if THAT punch connects, it would be like getting stomped on my a rhino.
I just looked up barrett -- he's no bum:

Can anyone tell me how I can find out where he's at position wise?
lol -- Ok, I admit. I have no idea what I am talking about, because I don't know heaps about boxing. I'm the type of guy that couldn't care less until there's some big fight. Then I'll do anything or pay anyone to see it!
Maybe I am wrong. Maybe you guys are all right. But when you've got a 7' tall Russian standing in front of you, with hair on his back longer than the hair on my head, and a 45 degree shaped forehead and a jaw as wide as my keyboard, I think is at least in there with a chance.
Ok, no need to get insulting -- it's called conversation. If you can't find convincing words to back what you say against a newbie, then maybe you should throw the towel in :)
I'm not "arguing" anyway -- so chill. Just saying what I think about Valuev. No one has said anything to convince me otherwise yet, although I have asked repeated questions and shown a willingness to hear useful information.

That's the fight I was talking about with Tyson. Tyson was a good boxer.. no matter what anyone says. But he was beat -- you know why? One reason, and one reason alone. Size. Now this guy WAS a nobody -- and Tyson quit on his stool because he was exhausted.
I think Valuev will win just the same way. He'll just keep exhausting his opponents. He doesn't have to know how to box. All he has to know is how not to get hurt, and with an 85" reach, that's not all that hard.
Also, just because I admit I'm a newbie, it doesn't give anyone a license for low blows (so to speak).. so, I'm new here and I don't know a whole lot about boxing, but if you can't make a case without just attacking the fact that I'm new here then your useless at convincing anyone letalone a newbie.
Like I said, I am not here to argue, but I'd really like to be able to continue this thread and ask questions and say what I think without trippers whining about me being new. It's just weak if you ask me.
I might not be a boxing guru, but I'm not a total retard either. It doesn't take much of a brain to work out that when someone is standing a foot over you and weights another 100 pounds that if your face collects too many of their punches you're going to hit the floor -- PERIOD. And like I said -- Valuev has a bit of speed about him. Look on youtube.. there are several instances where I can point out that he made a barrage of punches in quick succession - even in late rounds while his opponents have been jumping all over the place to keep up are absolutely exhausted.
