From what I heard khan wasn't meant to go to the olympics but he beat all the nearest challengers in the run up to the games and they had to let him go even though he was too young.
What sort of a fighter is salita btw I'm not exactly clued up on him...
I think they'll show Khan's next fight.
Froch was fighting ( on paper ) a very good fighter. Much better than Kotelnik.
Hatton, well 30k+ pulling power to a fight 5000 miles away.
Calzaghe was the best British boxer at the time.
Yea, I see your reasoning. Just the way they built him up from olympics, it's as if they decided this wasn't special enough.
World Champ! Remember!
Here's how I see it.
As soon as the boxer gets close it's over. In MMA or Boxing.
He would win Boxing obviously with a superior skill set.
But in MMA I watched these guys rolling around on the ground and thought if you let a boxer get that close he's gonna throw a massive body shot and with those tiny gloves he would crack four ribs and prob puncture a lung.
I just don't see the MMA guy doing anything. They see slower, weaker and more stupid!
Last thing.... Imagine getting in a ring with a prime Tyson in MMA (tiny gloves). He would literally kill people.
who would boxers go to mma? mma fighters can barely make $250k while boxers make millions :Flush:
True. But with all this stuff about MMA growing and boxing shrinking I just wanna set things straight.
what would tyson do when he got pushed to the ground and get raped? nothing. cause he dont train for those kind of situations and it doesnt happen in boxing
It would only take one clean strike. Even to the body.
personally I just don't see it.
its two different sport. make some mma fighter who trains mma fight under boxing rules and they would get whooped. make a boxer who trains boxing fight in mma rules and the boxers get whoop. and i honestly dont watch mma
what even a prime tyson? he was an animal!
bro, i dont think boxing is shrinking. not at all
neither do I but all we get told is that MMA is taking over. I just think it's rubbish.
Again who would fight a prime Mike Tyson in MMA? No-one!
Those who say MMA is "lesser" and takes "no skill" obviously have no idea what MMA really is.
Understand this, MIXED Martial Arts, notice the emphasis on MIXED, is the combat sport which combines 3 ways for fighting. Clinch, Striking, and Grappling. So it could be anything like Boxing+Greco Roman Wrestling+ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai+Judo+Submission Wrestling ect.
Different fighting styles and different skill sets.
Anywho, this thread has been done 10000000000+ times...let's not get into this eh?
Er sorry! Yea it's mixed but it that doesn't make it the sum of the parts, more like the lowest common denominator.
If it was down to skill then there wouldn't be lucky wins. Boxing is down to skill. It is very rare someone gets lucky.
QED
you have got to be joking or you no nothing, Witter would be his biggest fight against the best he has faced, he aint been in there with anyone technicaly as good as Witter, and if he only has 8 more fights he will show himself for the cash cow he is, and who will those 8 be, ill tell they wil be washed up past legends and bums hwho cant punch or cant take a punch.
First and foremost boxing is a business. Yes, witter would be the best he would have faced but it wouldn't propel him to the big american fights in the US. The US only know Witter as that guy who got beat by Jab and Bradley.
Therefore they'll (US) see him beat witter and think oh well 'nothing special' it's been done before.
Yea 8-10 fights... why go further... we know he ain't gonna be an ATG but he's got a chance of doing v.well at 140.
This is a joke. Murray doesn't have the skill set to even trouble khan.
Every single jab will land flush on murrays nose. Every time he walks forward and throws a shot khan will counter him with ease. If you don't believe me check out round 6 of the kotelnik, the only time kotelnik initiates an attack he gets countered hard.
MAB and kotelnik were counter punchers so a come forward guy like murray would play into his hands.
I'm not saying he hasn't got flaws but seriously even hamidi should have beat him (he only got the call he was fighting that day!
why only have 8-10 more fiights? He's young, and he's gonna be fed quite a few soft opponents.
He is young and has the potential to go until he's 32-33. But because he started so young his career only really needs another 4 years (26/27) for him to achieve everything he can. Just thinking about say 10 fights, you've got Maidana, Juan diaz, Paulie, Ortiz, Salita, Campbell, JMM, PBF, maybe Guzman and Valero/Bradley... (not neccesarily in that order)
I've probably missed a couple out and there will be up and comers but he should keep it short and sweet. That is if he continues to win, obviously.
The new and improved Khan would put a schooling on Witter. First of all, his defence is poor compared to Kotelniks, and Khan will land at will. Plus Khan can hit hard enough to put Witter down or force a stoppage. Bradley had Witter down and hurt, so I'm pretty sure Khan can do the same.
Khan wins by a wide margin, or gets caught by a big shot and loses by KO
I'd agree with that. People don't seem to realise Kotelnik was a very tricky fighter. To UD him is a massive achievement. I see Khan counter punching Witter until he throws his own flurry of punches in the mid rounds... i.e. stoppage.
I can't see murray landing flush in the first 4 rounds. Khan would just be too fresh. Khan would tie him up everytime he got close and would easily nick the first four rounds. I would then expect murray to have lost his edge and if he did catch khan I doubt he would floor him as murray requires his feet to be planted to put power in his shots.
I personally think we haven't seen anywhere near the best of khan. simply because his style is made for people who come onto him, e.g. maidana! The last two fights he had to pot shot and counter-counter punch because they were both very smart technical fighters.
He would school murray and knock him out late on IMO.
Witter is a step backwards for Khan, or at least not a step forward. Khan should have about 8-10 more fights max. Witter isn't one of them.
Maidana first tho.
Khan has two ways of fighting.
1)Stick n Move - this give him speed to win rounds which comes in useful when he wants an opponent to chase him in the later rounds
2)Attack/Trade - This is for when he wants to finish a fight. This was clearer in his early fights.
BTW you should ask limond (broken jaw) and gomez, who had to take a knee after a body shot, if khan has any power when he sits on his shots...
I see him winning the first few rounds of most fights, taking the edge off a fighter then KO them late if the opportunity arises.
