Ryder lost to Rocky Fielding, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and probably Danny Jacobs if you saw that fight, all Canelo losers. Canelo could, if he really wanted to fight at 168, STOP avoiding guys with 0's
Come on man, be fair at least. Ryder out landed Jacobs in 7 rounds. Win was fair. And he arguably beat Fielding and Smith too. Losses don’t mean much when you have notable wins. Styles make fights remember? Triangle theory never works. You should know better.
This glorification of perfect records is exactly what’s ruining boxing.
You said ducked, I didn’t but he definitely didn’t want those fights. Don’t act like Canelo didn’t completely drop a belt when the wbc made ggg his mandatory and he didn’t want to fight him. Don’t act like he didn’t take a franchise title once Charlo was the wbc mandatory and drop the wbc title, and don’t act like he still didn’t have a chance to take andrades belt if he wanted to make the fight regardless if what happened with Derveyenchenko. He chose not to and chased fighters in a weaker division. Not to mention as you referenced, Canelo had no desire in getting a real win over ggg at that time ant mw and wanted to take his shady win and run off. A rematch with ggg, a fight with Charlo and fight with Andrade all were bigger fights and bigger challenges than those guys he fought at 168.
If he avoided those fights then he ducked them. That’s what that word means..
So according to you:
•Canelo ducked GGG just to fight him a year later anyway. It couldn’t possibly have been due to negotiations (with a deadline of just 15 days lol).
•Canelo ducked a possibly pointless trilogy fight (which is what it ended up being, to no one’s surprise) to become undisputed at 168.
•Canelo ducked Charlo even the Golden Boy sent his team an offer that got declined.
•Canelo ducked Andrade despite requesting to fight him for undisputed (while knowing now that Andrade would go on to duck Canelo at 168).
Interesting. I genuinely don’t have a response. You’ve left me speechless ✌
Nice try with that article but if YOU bothered to read the rest of the article, you’d see that the exemption request from golden boy was made 2 weeks after the deadline to do so had passed. They had time to make that request, they let that time pass because they didn’t think the wbo would actually strip Canelo and then tried to save face when they did. Try again.
And who’s fault is that? De La Hoya was late. De La Hoya was the one wasting time “negotiating” with Derevyanchenko’s team. De La Hoya only had googley eyes for another GGG pay day and wanted to block all else. Canelo did what he could. Do you honestly think he went through GGG and Jacobs for their belts but ducked Andrade for his? Bffr. Try again.
It is irrelevant who asked for the fight at 168 pounds.
Canelo Alvarez if he is a fighters fighter, will understand that he needs to rematch and beat Bivol at 175 pounds…Alvarez vs Bivol at 168 pounds, is a devalued fight. 7 pounds, is a mass amount of weight to drop. And these are fighters already in peak condition.
Get real. Canelo has been pushing for 175 this entire time. If Bivol wants to try for the 168 belts that’s on him, not Canelo. In the end, he must take which ever opportunity Bivol gives him.
But quit acting like it’s a “devalued” fight. A fight at 168 would be both fighters on a even playing field. It’ll prove who really is the better boxer. This fight isn’t just about Canelo either. Obviously Bivol wants to fight for legacy as well.
A small middleweight like Canelo tried to prove himself by fighting Bivol at 175. But Bivol trying to do the same at 168 is too much? Come on. If anything he still has a better chance at 168 than Canelo did at 175 lol. Canelo jumped 2 weight classes from where he should be with only 1 fight under his belt. Bivol is going down 1 weight class with PLENTY of experience fighting at 168.
If he can’t beat Canelo at 168 then it just proves Bivol didn’t win their first match, Canelo just lost it.
I really wish Bivol would just fade back into obscurity.
Ducked the Canelo rematch. Ducked Beterbiev. Beat his wife. All in one year. Had the audacity to complain about money, but will no doubt fight some bum for spare change next.
This guy will have no notable feats to his actual name when his “career” is done. He’ll just be a footnote in Canelo’s resume. A fluke once you look deeper into it. Smh. What a waste of a headline.
face it. the cherry pick back fired. Bivol has skills but is slow as hell and still whooped alvareds ass. Styles makes fights so clenelo doesn't have a chance against Charlo nor Benavidez which is why he continues to duck them:boxing:
This bs narrative continues to blow my mind. You have to have an incredibly twisted view of boxing to consider the #1 light heavyweight, and undefeated champion, and stylistic counter to Canelo, a “cherry pick.”
So Canelo is ducking who exactly? For the better part of a decade, other than a single #1 contender, he has only fought literal champions. Are we supposed to feel sorry for Benavidez that he couldn’t hold onto his belt? And now Canelo is set to fight another #1 contender in Ryder who is ranked 3rd in the division by The Ring and 2nd by BoxRec, but he’s a just a bum?
It’s hilarious that a year ago, this was the hater narrative:
“It’s not as if Canelo was ever going to defend his WBA title against Ryder. If the WBA ordered Canelo to defend against Ryder, he likely would vacate it.”
(Source: Ryder Mandatory To WBA Champion David Morrell, Not Canelo - Boxing News 24/7)
How quickly Ryder went from someone Canelo was guaranteed to duck, to someone not worth fighting at all.
All while claiming Canelo is ducking the likes of Charlo and Andrade, two guys who didn’t even bother fighting in 2022. So while Canelo fights “nobodies,” they literally fight nobody at all. Come on…
You are right about one thing though. Styles make fights, and historically, the only guys that have given Canelo problems in the ring have been guys with great technical skills and/or great footwork. Benavidez has neither. In fact, Canelo’s pressure, toughness, timing, and counterpunching is all wrong for Benavidez. I do hope he makes it past Plant. Just so he can step in the ring with Canelo and not see the championship rounds lol.
In hindsight, Bivol struggled way too much against a blown up, gassed, injured welterweight like Canelo. I rewatched that fight recently and scored it 8-4.
Hell, Bivol couldn’t even stop rank 15 Lyndon Arthur, meanwhile Beterbiev just showcased an impressive technical performance against rank 3 Callum Smith.
I don’t see how Bivol is gonna win this. The only thing Bivol has going for him is his distance control and volume, but we’ve seen again and again how effective Beterbiev’s pressure is and how he forces guys to defend and not throw as much.
Bivol looking around like wtf he talking about
Well Bivol literally said Canelo is the 2nd hardest hitting light heavyweight he’s ever faced And ever since he found out Canelo had an injured hand and knee during the first fight, he doesn’t seem to be too interested in a rematch.
I was chatting about all this with a couple of bloke's in my local pub the other day (some casual's, some hardcore) & we all agreed that the only fight's we want to see in the immidiate future are Bivol Vs Beterbiev & Canelo Vs Benavidez.
I was chatting with a bunch of my casual/semi-serious friends when were talking about setting up a fight party for Ryan vs Tank while we watched the ufc fight earlier.
When I asked who they want to see Canelo fight next they all said Bivol, and none of them even knew who Benavidez was. Some of them recognize the name but don’t know anything about him.
I’m starting to understand why Benavidez vs Plant flopped lol.
I’m arguing that canelo left a more prestigious division in mw where he only needed one title to become undisputed there and he bypassed it to go to a division that was definitely known as one of the weaker ones in boxing.
The IBF ordered Canelo to fight Derevyanchenko. Golden Boy wouldn't let it happen, so he was stripped of the title. This is what prompted the move to 175 and then 168. If you bothered to read the article notifying the public of him being stripped, you’d see Canelo asked IBF for an exemption to go fight Andrade instead. IBF declined.
“As to Golden Boy's request of August 1, 2019 for approval to allow Alvarez to unify the title with WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade or about October 2019, IBF Rule 10 F.5 does not allow a boxer to request an exception since the IBF has sent out the notice of the date of the purse bid..."
If anything, now that Andrade is at 168, he ducked the opportunity to become Canelo’s mandatory via Parker. He’d literally be in Ryder’s position. Not much to say about that though huh?
LOL You lost all credibility when you said people were claiming Canelo was going to duck John Ryder.....no one ever said that.
Quoted word for word and cited the source. You blind?
Bivol and his manager have both said they will only fight Canelo at 168 and Canelo knows it. That's why he is insisting on a rematch @ 175. He knows he won't get it.
Fair is fair. Canelo has been insisting on 175 from day 1. Bivol just now started insisting on 168. Bivol is the one that clearly doesn’t want this rematch lol.
Inside the mind of a boxer that handpicks his opponents. Canelo gave you the reasons he decided to step in the ring with Plant, and the reasons why he's avoiding a matchup with Benavidez.
I’m sure the fact that Plant had a belt and Benavidez didn’t, had nothing to do with it ♂️
Do y’all even think before posting this bs?
