You have to admit though, the right hand Huck landed in the 12th was unbelievable and had Povetkin staggering across the ring, and often Huck could set up punches as desired with Povetkin blocking with his face Rocky-style.
Yes I do, once again why I'm disappointed in Sasha. He clearly was the more skilled fighter, but he didn't look it tonight. He should be ashamed that Denis Lebedev did better against Huck, who was smaller and much shorter.
Anton LaVey, however, that's just stubbornness if you won't admit Huck looked ready to go in the 11th he was badly hurt and bloody and the bell saved him. And I remember you lobbying for Huck before the fight even started...are you just mad you didn't get it right?
It was a close fight, Povetkin throwing and landing more punches, Huck landing more flashy ones but not enough imo. And the crowd kept cheering for Huck when he would just throw hard shots but didn't land them. I noted every close round, and there were a lot, I could have saw it 117-111 for Povetkin or 115-113 for Huck there were that many. So I think the decision is fair, especially when everyone before the match were saying Saurland favored Huck.
But I remember when Wladimir Klitschko was concerned about Povetkin in the past...really he's got nothing to worry about after tonight. I'm disappointed in Povetkin, the last few rounds showed if he was busy enough he could have stopped Huck.
I don't score close rounds for fighters who keep bending over so the other guy has to hit him in the back of the head.
So I gave all the close rounds to Huck. And Povetkin was the only guy who was badly hurt in that fight -- he was saved from hitting the deck once by the ropes.
Povetkin won the fight, Huck won the event, hahaha.
True it's not pretty, it's very John Ruiz like imo but it counts in boxing. And I thought a few of the times when Povetkin looked in trouble it was because he was so off balance ducking. He probably should have held instead, it would have looked better. And I disagree, in the 11th Huck was busted up and looked ready to go and for the first half of the 12th too.
I thought Povetkin was a better boxer than this, but he gave a Marcos Maidana-Erik Morales type performance tonight and yeah he was Maidana. Disappointed in him, but not the decision I think it was fair just like that fight.
Mora Sucks
Russell Mora iS THE WORST REF EVER! He should be blacklisted and never given these types of fights. He stopped Berto-Hernandez too quick, then didn't stop Donaire-Montiel quick enough, blew a knockdown call against Katsidis when he he fought Guerrero and took off points when he should have given a few warnings when Katsidis strayed low. Jose Suliman even publicly asked for his discipline and hinted he should resign. I'm expecting more bull****, he could potentially ruin a great fight.
I disagree about the part where it said "severely damaged his reputation." In his past fights Dimitrenko showed a pattern: he flops and complains a lot about legal punches that he claims are fouls, but the hometown refs always gave him the benefit of the doubt. This time he was not fighting on his promoters cards and he didn't get the preferential treatment. And if you saw the Eddie Chambers fight you could see the same lack of heart and whining he showed today the only difference was that Chambers is a light puncher so he didn't get stopped.
I figured Pulev was too crisp with his punches and his counters would be too much for Dimitrenko. I'm curious to see how the cards would have went but I figured being on a Saurland card Pulev was winning at worst a split decision, only b/c Dimitrenko lives in Germany a judge might have favored him.
It's a shame Corley has been reduced to this, but really his story is shared by hundreds of other boxers. I met him back in 2003 when he took on Judah, I thought he was robbed. After the fight he came back to ringside when Mayorga-Forrest 2 was happening and I stopped him for a second. The entire time I talked to him he never said a word or even changed facial expressions, I told him he was robbed and that he'd have another chance. But tragically he went on a downward spiral after that, at one time I felt that he could have been an all time great and he showed signs like when he rocked Cotto and Mayweather but he never got there. I hope he retires soon he looks like a shell of even that man (minus almost upsetting Maidana).
Rahimov reminded me of Brandon Rios without power and Kim might not be one of the best in the division but you can't hate a guy that's all action like him a la Katsidis. Congrats to Kim for rebounding well after his recent losses!!!
I was in Las Vegas to watch his rematch with Mayorga in 03'...I will always remember how sad he looked as he was leaving the ring when the decision went against him. It seemed noting went right for him after that, he was constantly injured, didn't box much, and ironically if he was training for his mandatory title defense against Sergio Martinez win or lose he probably wouldn't have ran into trouble that fateful night b/c he would have been too busy training. Such a shame...hopefully he's RIP.
Frazier deserves to be in the HOF & he didn't get his credit for beating Oscar Bonavena, Jerry Quarry, etc but Ali got a lot for beating the same guys. He didn't even really get any credit for beating Ali the first time & he schooled him.
It's sad that he gets remembered as "the other guy" & it seems to never end.
But I guess Lyle must have had other reasons for putting him on the list. I met him last year at the Venetian, he was asking for a ridiculous amount of money just to hear him talk for an hour. Not wanting to pay I waited for him at the entrance, when he arrived he was anything but charming he didn't stop for pics & autographs & practically told us if we weren't spending he didn't want anything to do with us. Still it was hard to be mad at him, he was in bad health (poor speech & in a wheelchair) & I knew he had money troubles (like the government unfairly taking away millions of dollars in real estate from him & his unsuccessful lawsuit against the Indian Casino that used his image without his permission). HOF don't pay the bills, maybe if Lyle was mad about not getting an autograph from him he could offer him some $$$ & I'm sure he'd trade in his HOF plaque. Otherwise he definitely stays.
Nacho STFU!!!
I am so sick of Nacho Bendejostien, he's a $hitty trainer & that's why Marquez lost!!! Why in the world did he tell him to cruise the last 3 rounds, didn't he remember De La Hoya-Trinidad. Not to mention De La Hoya lost his final fight badly against Pacquiao with him as the trainer. And he proclaimed Perro Angulo would KO Canelo easily only to see him gas out against Kirkland and throw ropey punches the rest of the way and get KO'd by a guy who was KO'd himself by a guy with only 6 KO's. Marquez was a natural talent & Nacho being his trainer was the only reason people thought so highly of him.
Nacho no robbery, you're the reason Marquez lost!!!!
I was a huge JuanMa fan & even got to meet him once. But he let me down big time against Salido (I made a huge wager & it wasn't for points). At first I thought it was all the problems he had outside the ring, like becoming a superstar and becoming too full of himself like declaring he was bigger than Calderon and Cotto or his divorce. But the Mike Oliver fight showed me he was shot, he got rocked by an absolute bum with no power. I think the Rafa Marquez fight was his last great moment in boxing cause he's done with the A-listers (maybe even high B like Salido is). I doubt he can even beat Ponce or Rafa again.
Salido by KO cause he still can't stop the right hand from coming.
One thing I've noticed in boxing is that tragedy(including upsets) strikes at almost the same time, like Gatti, Arguello, and Forrest. It happened once again as it was tragic to hear Paul Williams and Johnny Tapia within a day of each other meet untimely endings (in different ways). Not much of a bright side but at least Williams is still ticking unlike the rest I mentioned.
Unfortunately it's over, but I hope if Paul ever reads this I want him to know that his boxing career helped me out tremendously when I was in a bad time in my life...that's all I'll say about it :) Thank you Paul and good luck with the rest of your life.
