The ticket sales don’t impact the fighter’s purse in the WBSS. As long as the best are fighting the best in the WBSS, who cares about how many they’ve sold?
I mean thats one way of putting it, but another way of putting it is that if you keep putting fights on in places that sell out only 25% of the venue it won't be long before this WBSS thing isn't a thing doe is the problem with the way you are talking.
Granted its not your problem or my problem in figuring out this clear problem & your & my first desire is to just see the damn fight, but if you wanna keep seeing the damn fights someone needs to figure this sh^t out cuz its not sustainable.
True, but at least in the short term the revenue from DAZN will keep the WBSS afloat in the US, and they’ve got big backers. DAZN will want as much high quality boxing content as they can get. Think they’ll figure it out at some point... hopefully
I somewhat agree. Popularity contests don't matter to me, what matters to me is that the sport does well. This is a good card, it deserves to be seen.
I see what you’re saying, my point was was based on a selfish standpoint that as long as I get to watch it I’m all good.
There’s loads of guys that could headline. Why are B level guys like Whyte suddenly PPV calibre fighter’s?
If you put Whyte-Rivas on regular Sky Sports you’d hear nothing but positive reviews but the greed of Hearn/Matchroom/Sky prevents that.
No, the greed of the fighter prevents that. If sky and Matchroom didn’t put it on PPV then Whyte couldn’t get the money he wants and he would be fighting in America making everyone complain even more
Fights like Allen-Browne headlining and now Whyte vs Rivas is on PPV. The standard just gets lower and lower. As a UK boxing fan I’m genuinely embarrassed.
And then BT’s content has been pretty much non-existent.
“British boxing is booming though”😂😂😂
Sky have done a few positive things though. At least they’re now uploading the fights to YouTube the day after. There’s no other fighters to headline other than Callum Smith in the UK, who is fighting in the US. It’s simply a case of too many retiring at an alarming rate, and sky and Matchroom should have seen this coming and had the ‘next wave’ ready
I wonder if Frank regrets handing all his best guys over to Arum to fight in the states yet? I really think Frank's only chance to stay relevant at this point is for Dubois to become his AJ and Gorman to become his Whyte. That stable is looking incredibly thin these days
Every time one of his fighter’s loses he ditches them, that’s one reason why his stable is so thin
