Caleb Plant is a bit of an outlier amongst those greats.
I like his style too though, I think he does a job on Benavidez.
2 of those guys on there Hop and Toney fought in the 80s and actually were champs before the last 20 years, in the 90s. Ward competed professionally from '04 - '17 so his resume is written, Canelo has been since '05, so yes Plant will be the outlier in comparison but he is a very slick guy and I like watching, and teaching defense and counters
Paul Willams vs Canelo
Pacquaio vs Valero
Floyd vs Hamed/Kotzu
All entertaining fights there, that Canelo vs Paul fight was actually made, then Paul had the motorcycle accident.

Roy Jones vs. Nigel Benn and Darius michalczewski
Bowe vs Lewis, Tyson
Tyson vs. Tua, Mercer
Floyd vs. Casamayor, Freitas, P. Williams, Margarito, Mosley at 135
Calzaghe vs Ward, Froch, Ottke, Collins
Wlad vs. Lewis, Holyfield, Valuev
Hopkins vs. Toney, Ward, Benn, Collins
I like that Calzaghe vs Ward alot!!!
To watch?
...
Damn, I actually can't in fairness just pick 5. Shortest list I could actually come up with was about 12 and even then I kept thinking of more... :lol1:
Yes, just to watch. Your favorite
Same here, really good post!!! I agree 100 percent which is why I try to discuss various boxers. A lot of time when I am looking at fighters as a coach/ trainer I tend to prefer the ones that fight utilizing fundamentals that I teach but in discussions and promoting fighters I really just want to see the sport grow, gain more respect and have all fighters get their recognition and respect that they are due.
Lomachenko
RJJ
Calzaghe
AJ
Nigel Benn
My all time favourite is Hearns but he is probably just too old.
Hearns is a helluva fighter!!! One of my ALL-TIME favorite! Tommy fought A LOT longer than people realize and obviously A LOT longer than he should have, actually had a fight in 2006, he's prime was late 70s and 80s. I wish he would have retired well before that but IMHO his last fight no doubt should have been after beating Virgil Hill in '91, he lost his next fight and LHW Belt to Iran Barkley the next fight he should have left after the Barkley SD.
Gerald Washington’s nickname “El Gallo Negro” (the black c***/rooster) is a funny one.
I always liked “Chocolatito”.
“Hands of Stone” is another great one, Carl Frampton was actually nicknamed “brick fists” in the amateurs.:lol1:
“The Bayonne Bleeder”- Chuck Wepner.
Audley Harrison once fought some guy nicknamed “The Dutch Sonny Liston”.:lol1:
Interesting! Frampton and Harrison's opponent were new one's to me, thanks.
I've been rewatching some Khan fights here lately. I rewatched the Nelo fight and Khan wasnt doing bad until he got destroyed
Yeah, Khan was up in that fight before the inevitable happened ...
:lol1: Well, apologies, but you gonna get 12 in no particular order. You'll notice that there's marked leaning towards the UK fighters pre 2011 cos that's when I really started getting obsessed with this ish big time rather than just following a few top UK stars... I'd have Prince Naz on the list too but I consider him a 90s fighter really.
Maravilla
Froch
Hatton
Haye
Donaire
Pacquiao
Golovkin
Kovalev
Crawford
Lomachenko
Gamboa
Beterbiev
There's literally dozens of others though, many who were never as highly regarded as those above like N'Dam, or Shafikov or currently John Riel... too many others to mention. Those were just really the first that popped into my head. There's also plenty of other guys who I rate more highly and have the utmost respect for or came to appreciate more after the fact, but just never got as excited for at the time.
Very interesting list!!! I like it, a lot actually. I LOVE talking boxing especially when you bring boxers up that aren't discussed daily? What are your thoughts on Bivol? Looking at some other names you have on this list I have to ask your thoughts on Usyk, asking because he was one of the few losses that Beterbiev had as an amateur. I think Beterbiev only loss 5 or 7 fights as an amateur (don't quote me on that). Also did you ever see Evgeny Makarendo? He fought Beterviev (twice) as an amateur also and loss to Ward in 2004 at the Olympics
