I don't think any of you guys who want Holyfield to retire are genuinely concerned for his health. You just don't like the guy, period. In your heart of hearts you want him to continue so that he would get a real beating, and then you can have your little celebrations. And maybe in the back of your minds, Holyfield just might end up beating any of the so-called heavyweight champs and you don't want to see Holyfield become champ again. You want to keep holding him down to ensure he won't accomplish his goal.
I personally think Holyfield should retire and that he is just a shell of himself. But he knows the dangers of this sport, and if he gets seriously hurt, that's on him and he is well aware of that.
Heres the thing people don't get about Roy Jones Jr. weight drain going into the Tarver fight in 03. People scream he had 8 months to do it!!!!!!!!!!! True, but he didn't use all 8 months. He wait until the last minute, thinking he would get a fight with Tyson. Plus it wasn't just weight he was draining, it was muscle.
Excses, excuses. Fanboys will rant about RJJ's highlight reels, but boxing historians and knowledgeable boxing fans know that Hopkins is a true all-time great. RJJ will be known for handpicking bums and getting KO'd by one punch twice. He beat Hopkins in a boring match. It makes RJJ greater than Hopkins as much as Buster Douglas' upset over Tyson makes him greater than Tyson. Hopkins has fought everybody and when they were in their primes. He's able to adapt to most styles and find a way to win. He is consistent and while not as physically gifted as RJJ, is by far the more complete fighter. Great fighters lose and come back. How did RJ come back from his loss to Tarver? By getting KO'd by Glen Johnson and losing an embarrassing decision to Tarver in their 3rd meeting. So what does RJJ do? He resorted to fighting bums and dug Trinidad out of the grave and couldn't even knock him out. In the meantime, Hopkins continues to fight the best available. He dominated Tarver, Wright and Pavlik, got screwed by the judges against slapper Calzaghe.
Yeah, i found it a little bit silly when he said he trained the hardest for this fight aside from the Lewis fight(which he lost), and that is the reason he will win.
There's nothing silly with what Grant said. He's referring to how hard he trained for the Lewis fight, regardless of the outcome. He uses that as a reference point to compare his other training camps with. He may have lost against Lewis, it doesn't change the fact that Grant trained his hardest against Lewis.
About Margarito's comment on how he's not saying that he'll knock Cotto out but that for sure the fight won't go 12 rounds, this might be a translation issue. I don't think Margarito is predicting a KO loss for himself, but he might be saying that he might not necessarily knock Cotto out cold or drop him for a 10-count, but that he will stop him, possibly by TKO.
Whoever made the comment "look at their records" is a complete ignorant. This will be an EASY fight for Margarito. Cotto can't even hurt Malignaggi or Mosley. The only way Margarito loses is if he falls over from laughing at how weak Cotto's punches are. Cotto will get beaten in a brutal, humiliating fashion and get knocked out senseless.
This article was complete garbage, just like Calzaghe. The writer was obviously some british f*g. The "best" Calzaghe is one who fights only old, washed up fighters. Calzaghe is a slapping female dog who can't even knock out the glass-chinned shell of his old self in RJJ. Calzaghe is an embarrassment to boxing. It's fighters like him that bring the sport down and make MMA look good.
