So, correct me if I'm wrong, your list "must" consist of:
The Ring (1922 - 1992, 2002 - )
NBA (1921 - 1962)
WBA (1962 - 2000)
WBA Super (2000 - )
WBA Regular (2000 - )
NYSAC (1920 - 1963)
IBU (1913 - 1946)
EBU (1946 - 1963)
WBC (1963 - )
IBF (1983 - )
WBO (1988 - )
If you want to add the "champions" prior to those dates, I think you should consider who were considered lineal prior to that date... I can also provide you a list of that, alongside the list of interim champions...
That's pretty much it, my list currently includes these champions:
The Ring (1922 - 1992, 2002 - )
NBA (1921 - 1962)
WBA (1962 - 2000)
WBA Super (2000 - )
WBA Regular (2000 - )
WBC (1963 - )
IBF (1983 - )
WBO (1988 - )
I haven't yet looked into details on the champions before the NBA/The Ring, so getting a list of the lineal champions from then would be really great.
The lists I've been going off currently have just been from wikipedia, e.g. for the WBA champions I just used this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WBA_world_champions
Adding more champions is a long-term goal for the project, but I think adding the lineal champions prior to the introduction of the belts will be a good start. Getting a list of those champions would be really helpful.
Haven't checked back here in a while, so apologies for the late replies.
Sent you an email a few days back...
Sorry for the delay! Just responded.
This looks very, very interesting!
I have a question:
In the "all world champion opponents" section - where have you got all the opponents from? Have you yourself gone through the records of every champion, and counted EVERY fight they have had against other champions? This would appear to be a truly gargantuan task - or is there some easier way?
Most of the process was automated. I basically made a list of the world champions, then used scripts to scrape the data, and filter it to only the bouts between boxers who have been world champions.
To update it though, I'm doing it manually. For example, Stephen Fulton became a world champion last night, so I added him to the database, and I had to manually go through his previous fights. I need to work on making that easier before expanding the database to include more champions.
Wow. How did I miss this thread.
I'm definitely gonna dork out on this for awhile. Love this idea.
Randomly it'd be cool if you could see the record at each option right under their name or something to get a quick overview of how they did in comparison vs the other guys you are comparing them against. Like I'm looking at Floyd, Manny, Shane & Oscar so Floyd would be 3-0 in head to head, 9-0 in common opponents & 24-0 vs champions. It'd be cool to see that right off without having to go through all the names & counting them yourself.
Thanks! That's a good idea. There's space for it, and that would be easy to implement.
Hey ed-hw Why isn't Jess Willard on Jack Dempsey's list of champions fought?
Jess Willard was a champion before the NBA/WBA and The Ring were established. When I add the champions from before 1921, Jess Willard will be on Dempsey's list. At the moment, that generation is pretty lacking in the app, but when the lineal, and belts like the IBU are added, that should make an improvement.
For all the plaudits about his defense, he can be put down by inferior boxers. Klitschko really struggled, so it's assumed others will struggle too, but Wilder momentarily put him to sleep, Wallin managed to land clean, Cunningham dropped him. Fury is good defensively, but certainly not infallible.
I saw Emile fight live in 1964 at Sydney Stadium my dad took me I was 9yrs old dont remember alot it was much later that I realized I seen a great .
Another bit of Aussie trivia Tony Mundine Snr beat him in Paris.
Must have been an amazing experience. I watched the Ring of Fire documentary about him a few months ago, really well made.
Might as well add The Ring and the interim-only champions as well? I can help you with the latter list...
That would be great, any help is appreciated. All The Ring champions should be there, but champions from before The Ring was established aren't yet. At the moment, my priority is to add those early world champions first.
Probably worth some thought on how you share what type of champion they were. For example the ring is arguably not a real belt as such .. and wba regular certainly isn’t. The IBO carries more weight than that belt in my opinion ... and probably should be added at some point.
People will have differing opinions on the importance of each belt but a way of indicating it maybe useful (even if it’s simply a logo of a belt or something and you can hover over to see which belts)
For sure, I think it would be useful to show a list of titles each champion has won, and the titles on the line for each bout.
Alvarez has the enthusiastic backing of the boxing industrial complex, which has taken to overstating his abilities in an effort to prop up its dead sport. But history will view him more objectively. Time has a sobering effect on perception.
This author is clueless.
I wouldn't be surprised. BJS, and Jacobs have recently made the jump to super middle, and Andrade will probably move up to fight BJS, and chase Canelo.
Had a quick look using that link, it looks good. An EBI (even better if) for you ; would be good when you compare champions etc if it maybe said top right for example “KO6” for knock out in six. Appreciate your working from scratch though and it looks good
aah, thanks for letting me know about being unable to view the links on iPhone. Just edited the OP.
Also, that's a great idea, I think adding more of those details would make it more interesting.
I can provide you with the lineal list and the interim list, just need contact details where I can send the list (can't just drop them here as the lists are long)... But I can't provide you with the NYSAC, IBU and EBU ones since I don't have one... And oh, the list includes all 17 divisions, except the historical Paperweight...
And yes, your app should have an indicator and filter as well, whether a boxer never held a legit title (WBA Super, WBC, IBF, WBO, NBA, WBA)...
Like, all those who held a NBA, WBA, WBA Super, WBC, IBF and WBO are marked gold... NYSAC, IBU, EBU and WBA Regular only are marked silver... The Ring only are marked bronze... Lineal only are marked gray... Interim only are marked pink...
Good idea on using additional filters for the different belts.
Those lists would be great. I don't know if it's possible to private message me, or upload them to something like dropbox and send the link, or you can send the lists to this email: worldchampionsapp@gmail.com
I am going to share just a **** load of information with you. I think it can help you quiet a bit...
...
Admittedly, it'd be more helpful for other people if I added whose belt what champion earned and how, but, like I said, this was made for me. I didn't make it to share but I use it so often I figure from time to time when a proper fan researcher comes along it's worth sharing as is.
Wow, this is so helpful. Thanks a lot for sharing!
IBU World title fights. I believe this is complete...
...
Gimme a while, pretty sure I have NSC champions on file someplace in some form or another.
This is really great - thanks a lot. I don't know much about the IBU, so this has given me a lot to work with.
Am I missing something? I don’t see a link?
Like Quercusalba said, the underlined lines of the OP should take you there, if not here's the link to the homepage:
https://worldchampions.app/
You can add world champions with the search, then make head-to-head comparisons etc.
e.g. the four kings: https://worldchampions.app/?s=hth&f=269&f=8684&f=303&f=80
I feel like the strengths Joyce has (great engine), aren't as much of an advantage against Usyk, who also does 12 rounds easily. Both are slow starters too. It's an interesting fight, just think Uysk is slightly better.
