KO Vitali - Possible I suppose but rather unlikely at least IMO
Out jab Wlad? Never in a million years.
Louis would never attempt to outjab Wlad his style was not based on landing countless jabs it was about falling in with the left, the main control hand was the right.
Guys like Mayweather and Bhop use many of the techniques that Louis used in defence. If we had more good trainers in boxing you would see this style used more often. Sadly many trainers don't teach this techniques properly or don't have a clue about them.
Joe Louis was THE best of his era, but people go on as if he was this unbeatable giant slayer which he wasn't. He too had flaws which is why he was on his ass in virtually every other fight (credit for getting up and winning) he was outboxed on more than one occasion by the likes of Billy Conn before he got silly.
Now if he is getting outboxed by a LHW Billy Conn what do you think would happen if he fought a fighter of today? Seriously..
I'm not saying Conn wasn't great but could you imagine the flack Vitali would of got if say he lost or came close to losing to Adamek?
People make out Louis was unbeatable etc but he was down multiple times due to not so much his chin but a rather poor defense and low left. If he is getting knocked down heavily by extremely fisted light heavies WTF would happen if a legit heavyweight planted him?
I'm not sure where giant slayer comes from either, another myth. Who was these supposed giants he fought? Abe ****in' Simon & Prime Carnera
A rubbish fighter & a guy who was pretty respectable yet was literally a circus freak.
Billy Conn was an awesoom fighter. Have you seen how great his foot work is? Perfect balance.
Louis had flaws like everyone he could be caught with counter rights though sometimes he would make a slight movement on his left before throwing it that would be a tell tell give away that he was about to throw it. Most of his KD's were due to counter right hands.
I'm not saying Conn wasn't great but could you imagine the flack Vitali would of
Didn't Vitali lose to Byrd??? Wasn't he just a light heavyweight who had bulked up??? Vitali was winning that fight but was having serious trouble with Byrds movement.
Styles make fights I think there is way to much emphasis placed on size rather than technique. Conn wouldn't beat Vitali.
I won't argue any longer with you though. You have your own opinion and I have mine and I don't think we will be able to change each others opinion. :boxing:
Disagree with a lot of that and think you pretty much copied most of that word for word from a Youtube video I watched the other night.
Not every fighter can successfully add 10-15lbs of lean mass and I'd actually go on record and say Joe Louis didn't really have the frame to be carry an extra 15lbs of lean body mass.
Also styles have changed over the last 50-80 years, a lot. People moan today about clinching, reality is most fights pre mid 60s were compiled of extremely little but clinching.
Joe Louis had extremely slow, clubbed feet & did not have the jab or upper body movement to close the distance on a fighter like say Wladimir Klitschko.
I don't want to p1ss on a great like Joe Louis but its ridiculous to think H2H he is even competitive with the likes of Bowe, Ali, The Klitschkos or Holmes.
What youtube video??? I have a Joe Louis collection I haven't watched much of him on youtube.
I have been studying a lot of old fighter manuals over the past few years, a lot of the stuff like falling punches came from the Dempsey manual.
Style's have changed from the early 20th century as far as clinching is concerened but 80 years ago is not the turn of the 20th century. A lot of that had to do with smaller glove sizes and bareknuckle training where body punching was more important than head punching this changed but I don't see any new styles in boxing at all???? Proper Peek a Boo (not sticking you giant pillow gloves up by your head) for instanace is just a take on the Dempsey style. Floyd Patterson's punching form is similar to Jack Dempsey's punching form.
What new techniques are there in boxing today??? Everything seems to be a take on the past. Fist fighting has been around for thousands of years. Most of the small changes like defensive flicking jabs have been around for hundreds of years its just that the jab is used more regulaly partly due to the amatuer system but also the Ali hangover. Shoulder roll which many people claim was inveted by Mayweather has been around for ages.
I'm interested in what new styles there are??? I just can't think of to many.
OMG this is one of the worst threads I have seen on this site. Louis struggling with Adamek, Valuev, Haye???? hahahaha. Louis was known as the giant killer he was excellent at beating tall guys I don't think any guy outside the Klitschko brothers would stand much of a chance and I would favour Louis over everyone although Wlad might have a chance.
Louis would be a geniune heavyweight today, he never did weight training so a basic weight training programme would add 10-15lb straight off the bat.
Louis was not a basic fighter at all anyone that thinks so has not studdy the old time fighters. If you read a boxing manual from the time of Joe Louis the basic techniques and guides are almost identical to today. Jack Blackburn was probably the best trainer of all time and his fighters had excellent technique anyone that thinks boxing has progressed much since then (as far as technique) is kidding them selfs. Blackburn trained Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott and Sugar Ray Robinson.
Louis didn't jab like a typical modern fighter because he often used the falling step left jolt that was a power punch not a range finding flick. Louis had his head off center to make it harder for you to land on him meaning he was able to carry the left hand lower so he could step in with more power. Louis parried punches with his right hand with the smaller gloves he could not get away with using his gloves like ear muffs like modern fighters. Louis had good movement but didn't have wasted movement watch a lot of modern fighters including David Haye he has so much wasted movement that he gasses out quickly. Louis had almost perfect punching form with devastating power he used the proper power line not slaps like so many modern fighter do.
Louis destroyed a fighter with a very similar style to Vitali Klitschko in primo carnera (although Vitali is better). I will state again style's have not suddenly changed much over the past 50-80 years of boxing.
i think i have the true answer to this question
im guessing the "long count " painting by George bellows of the dempsey vs firpo fight 1924http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Bellows
is most likely worth millions of dollars look it up heres a link of the painting
some of bellows paintings have sold for 30 million plus dollars
this being the most famous could be worth 100 million plus! its currently in the Whitney museum of art
http://www.artbeyondsight.org/amart/images/BM-Bellows.jpg
lithographs (copies) have sold for over 100k
i cant even imagine the value of this painting
I would love a Bellows boxing painting, they are worth millions. The Dempsey painting would be worth $10m plus.
Mitchell is simply not a natural fighter. Nothing fluid about him at all. And chinny. Not sure what the hype was about. Bring back The Quiet Man - the last great American heavyweight.
Yeah I thought the same watching the fight, he didn't look natural at all in there. I admit to liking Seth because he is exciting but there is no way he will make it to the top.
That's the one thing I like about Jennings he looks like a more natural fighter.
Bryant Jennings style wise reminds me a bit of a heavyweight Michael Spinks. Not sure how far he can go though, you can never really tell until someone steps up although the win over Liakhovich was pretty good.
The WBC also have a semi-eliminator for Mitchell vs Banks and a normal eliminator for the Arreola fight, maybe they could introduce an eliminator to fight an eliminator. Lots of fighters seem to be going down the WBC path as they know Vitali will either retire soon or get old rather than face Wlad.
Seth is a nice guy but I thought he looked awful last night. He was really reaching in with the right hand and was off balance, his defence was terrible he was swinging punches from way out. He needs to think where he is going from here. He needs massive amount of work on defence and technique. He also lacked any head movement and was static. I like Seth and thought he might be able to work his way to a title shot, but I don't think he can challange anyone in the top 10 after that performance.
Credit to Banks though he made Seth look bad.
I agree that Bryant Jennings is probably the best American prospect, I could see him competing against the top 20 (he has already beaten a former title holder) because he has a good defence and excellent reach. Maybe HBO should have picked up Jennings rather than Mitchell.
absolutely. cut men, his trainer, anybody who could come in contact with his blood.
The chances are very slim of them getting anything, as soon as the blood leaves the body the HIV virus dies.
How can you not like him? He won me over with his battle against Peter. Someone will give him a good scrap in the near future. It just probably won't be an American.
Yeah I like Wlad now I didn't used to though. I want to see Wlad against Pulev next.
That's terrible news.
The chances of catching HIV from a sparring partner are very low, the disease dies soon after leaving the body. It is more than possible to get HIV from having unprotected vaginal sex but it is more likely through anal sex due to tears on the skin in that region.
To be safe I have always used a condom and have never had unprotected sex, it's just not worth the risk. Even so I have had a few condoms break on me, thankfully both times have been with the same girl who got tested before we did anything.
Hopefully he doesn't end up like Morrison who has stopped taking his treatment.
Just did a little reading on the condition his wife said he had...... It seems entirely possible he could have got HIV from having blood transfusions done
There were loads of people that got HIV from blood transfusions in the 80's, when gay people were allowed to give blood. At one point gay people were banned from giving blood in the UK although I'm not sure if that is true now.
At this point, the only thing we can do with regards to the heavyweights is sit back and see how long Wladimir can reign for. Dude could probably make 40 defenses of his crown if he put his mind to it.
I have come to like Wlad although he can be a bit dull. I just want to see a good fighter come up who can give him a good fun fight.
Boxing is going down the shitter.
Not only are there WBC silver, gold, platinum, tin & copper belts but they're starting to introduce semi-eliminators with quarter-eliminators, 1/8th, 1/16th and 2/3rds eliminators too. Lets not forget the WBAs super world championship which is the highest you can go within the WBA, underneath that is the WBA good world championship, WBA decent world championship and the WBA not so good world championship.
Wbc Silver, gold, platinum, iron, brass, wood, paper, plastic, cotton.
Something needs to be done about the stupid belts asap.
These alphabet organisations are a complete joke, killing the sport.:nonono:
I watched Shavers vs Holmes yesterday, and Norton was on the show saying how it was stupid that one organization recognised Spinks and the other himself and that they need to fight asap to clear the situation up for the people. Just look how things have gone since then utter joke.
Someone needs to get everyone to sit round a table and create a single body to unify boxing.
