Like I said, I think Fury will have his hands full with Pulev, who moves very well and can punch. Damn, I kinda would like to see Chris Arreola vs Fury just for the potential amount of pre fight trash talk. Who'd you think wins that? Arreola in the shape he's in now could KO Fury easily given the 2nd round knockdown we saw vs Cunningham...
How did Byrd beat Vitali? By hanging on his arm so he could help blow out his shoulder? And how anyone can watch Fury fight and believe that he is an elite heavyweight is beyond explanation.
Agreed. I didn't see any indication in Saturday's fight that Fury is anything more than a clumsy giant. He wrestled with Cunningham and wore him down with his sheer weight and size ( got deducted a point along the way ), set him up with his forearm and landed a half-legal blow to finish an exhausted opponent. Let's face it, none of this is gonna work against either Klitschko ( both big, strong, physical and lightyears ahead of Fury in terms of technique ). And if Cunningham can drop Fury, either K-bro is gonna pound his face into his throat.
All that being said, you can't blame the guy for running his mouth and making noise, from a business standpoint. Gonna be interesting to see how he fares against Pulev, who is also a technically polished HW with a good crack ( who KO'd a similar sized man in Alexander Ustinov ). IF Fury wins, which is up in the air ( I doubt he will ), it'll be interesting to see if his handlers really feed him to the K's right away...
HA! Just hope this gets made! I don´t give 2 s h i t s about you "Flomo" and "Pactard" retards hatin´on each other in this forum like monkeys poundin' their chest... why? Cos I´m a boxing fan you d i p s h i t s.
Hes there ever been a more obviously biased ref...? Respect for Peterson, but his win is definitely tarnished by the corruption of that idiot amateur referee. I mean COME ON.
Is Martin Murray any good? He has undefeated record but that could be because of who he fought.
Why does Felix Sturm keep ducking fighters like Martinez, Pavlik(when Pavlik was at 160), Abraham(when Abraham was at 160), and Taylor(when Taylor was at 160, and I think I heard Taylor whooped Sturm in the amateurs).
Maybe Chavez jr. and Sturm should fight, that sense would make sense...
The reason he´s ducking them is probably because they would actually be, or were, too big a threat. After what Macklin did, I am positive that a fighter of Martinez class would RAPE Sturm. Taylor could give him problems, AA could be interesting now there´s kind of a blueprint on how to box him.
It´s also got to do with how boxing is perceived here in Germany. There´s not a big public interest in German fighters taking on high class opposition, as there is in the US. Sturm has already established himself as a brand name, and generates decent turnouts. The dude feeds his family with boxing, so there´s no interest on his part to fight guys who might give him a beating and threaten his image/ reputation. Sad thing cos he could probably challenge himself, he just doesnt need to as no one here in Germany really cares...
Guys, before you make any more comments, just take the time, go to the site mentioned in the article and read the interview. Ariza gives some very revealing and explosive insight on trainer-fighter / fighter-promoter relationships. This interview is going to have a big impact over the next weeks! There could be some major shifts and movements coming up here... read dat sh*t and make up your minds guys!
Both fighters, Canelo and Jr, are well protected investments, that´s why the fight´s not gonna happen so soon. Their brand names will be marketed some more before anyone puts them against each other in the ring, if ever... Chavez-Martinez isn´t gonna happen so soon either, if it ever does... I like Freddie Roach, but there´s no doubt in my mind Sergio would rape Jr were they to meet anytime soon. Rubio is a possibility, I would also be interested in Chavez Jr vs. Andy Lee. Interesting matchup stylewise I think.
I don´t get why they can´t just work out some scenario where they go winner 70% loser 30% (just mock figures but you get the point)... the window for this fight happening is closing fast.
Be as it may, he better not get too cocky with all those demands... right now Uncle Bob is probably salivating over the possible earnings a 4th fight would bring, but if there´s any signal from the Mayweather camp that a fight could be made, Manny & co. might just as well say "check the scorecards, you lost, so f... you"...
you know i talk alot of **** to the pactards because they are so damn stupid but it's a shame how bob arum and those guys are taking advantage of manny.. they knww he isn;t the brightest person in the world now he is going to prevent him from making 60 million dollars because of his agenda and the fact arum had a grudge against oscar and floyd.. arum ain't ****.. this stuff has been said for years now its good to see it coming to light from pac's team. because when floyd or murad muhammad says it the pactards don't want to listen they just parrot the same nonsense bob arum says. i hope the pactards wake up now.Bob Arum´s gotta go. I thought it was really interesting to see that at the beginning of the week Koncz says Manny is going to wait until after Christmas to announce his plans, and one or two days later Manny holds a press conference saying he wants to target Mayweather. I gotta say: props to Manny for basically exposing Koncz ( and Arum ) as the b*tches they are. The Clottey fight to me was the best proof of how they operate. What a horrible, boring fight, just like the Mosley fight btw. But it made them a ton of money, that´s what´s most important to them, nevermind the ****tiness of the fights, right?... Finally Manny seems to be standing up for himself and putting his foot down. Let´s just hope this fight is FINALLY made, let´s hope Arum´s greed doesn´t ruin everything once and for all. Arum and Koncz are NOT team Pacquiao!!!
I watched it again 2 times and had it the same way, giving rounds 2, 5, 8, 9 and 11 to JMM. I gotta say tho, rounds 6 thru 9 were all real swing rounds and very hard to score, or were probably scored on what the judges preferences were.
Don´t forget, three judges had three different results, but none had it for JMM, so even though he did land some clear and crisp hands, his overall backpedaling/ counterpunching style seemingly wasn´t enough for him in the eyes of the judges to take the championship from Manny.
I agree that there was a predominant notion of Manny being a huge favorite in this fight, due to the weight and maybe also due to how JMM was shut out against Mayweather at the higher weight, maybe also due to his age... But:
1. JMM had 24 rounds of experience vs Manny and
2. Styles. Make. Fights.
Give all the credit in the world to JMM for his performance, he did a great job, it just wasn´t quite enough to win the championship.
I for one would have loved for this fight to be made instead of the BORING Clottey fight. Would have been a better time, and we would be closer to you-know-which fight.
For the record: NO Flomo or Pactard here. I just wanna see them get it on, so Flomos and/ or Pactards are hopefully shut up for good.
so he can bring 38 year old marquez up 2 divisons but cant move up 1 to fight martinez?FYI the weight limit for the Pacquiao-Margarito fight was 150. Sergio stated he could make that weight even though it would be very hard. But he did state he could do it.
Margarito rehydrated to 165 on fight night.
So personally I don´t see how Arum can make an argument of the weight issue when there´s obviously been a similar scenario before. Seems that for quite some time, from the Cotto (maybe also De La Hoya ) to the Margarito fight, they´ve been making a fuss about Manny walking through bigger guys, and when Martinez says he could possibly make the 150 limit all of a sudden that´s supposed to be a "weight advantage"? C'mon...
Bring on Pacquiao-Mayweather tho HAHAAAAA:boxing:
A couple of times? Did you watch the video?
In rd.12 alone, Marquez did it three times.
Yo, my thing is: if your Manny Pacquiao, you better be in the position to eliminate the problem of someone stepping on your foot by KTFO´ing them like you said you would. The only reason JMM was in the position to step on Manny´s foot ( happens in southpaw fights, no big deal! ) was because Manny was somehow totally distracted from forcing his own gameplan and his own pace of fighting.
I think Ortiz should recognize what´s best for him and undergo some sort of counseling before he takes another fight. For the record: part of me was expecting Floyd to win, and sort of "hoping" for Floyd to win so the chance - if there is any - of a Mayweather-Pacquiao megafight would be more likely to materialize. But deep down inside I was routing for the underdog Ortiz, because I like his back story and the way he behaved and handled the pre-fight pressure/ hype. He seemed very indifferent about Floyd´s trash talking etc... hell, he didn´t even react to Floyd grabbing his throat (!!!) during the weigh in. I thought "man, this kid´s confidence in himself must run deep..." Unfortunately all of my routing sympathy was transformed into head scratching confusion in the aftermath of what unfolded in the ring. Yes, Floyd was utilizing his accuracy and definitely outscoring Ortiz. But if you saw the post fight press conference, this is something that Ortiz´s camp had sort of anticipated, according to Danny Garcia, the game plan was to come on stronger and go to the body starting with the fifth. And I thought Ortiz was still in the fight. You always have a puncher´s chance! The reason we never saw how the fight would have gone is that Ortiz thrusted himself headfirst into Floyd´s lip (physically) and out of the fight (mentally). He cracked under pressure and delivered an ugly, irritating display of utmost immaturity. (By the way, he threw two consecutive punches after Joe Cortez stopped the bout after the headbutt, so much for "suckerpunching"). Watch it again. That headbutt, in terms of deliberately wanting to seriously damage your opponent´s health has got to be right up there with Mike Tyson´s ear biting incident. If Ortiz would have been disqualified, no one could have contested that, and the excessive hugging, kissing, Cortez "kind of" restarting the fight would have never happened. As brutal as Floyd´s knockout looked, I find Ortiz´s behavior to be much more disturbing in it´s entirety... the headbutt... the excessive excuses and kissing... the smiling after the fight... saying "it was fun" at the post fight press conference... IMO<- key phrase here! that should be much more the topic of discussion than the reflexive outcry about the resulting knockout. I still don´t approve of A LOT of his actions and behavior outside the ring, but it was NOT Floyd Mayweather who took the fight to the street level on Saturday.
This kind of thing happens all the time in the alpha sport not just a jv sport like boxing. So it doesn't even matter.
This one guy stabbed this other guy in the face in London when the other guy said 'Lionel Messi is better then Cristiano Ronaldo'
A guy set the house of another guy on fire in Madrid when the other guy accused Ronaldo of being a homosexual...
A girl cut another girl's ear when she said Ronaldo is not good looking...
Well, I've always said, nowadays there´s three groups of people: "*****s", "*******s" and ACTUAL BOXING ADMIRERS. Guess it´s asking too much from the first two to join ranks to show some respect for the victim and condemn this terrible act. Instead those fanboys keep trading ****ty jabs about their proclaimed idols using the anonimity of the internet. I bet all these retards still live with their mothers, their movement range is from the PC to the fridge and back, and they've never run ten yards in their life, let alone laced 'em up. *****es like that are a disgrace to the fight game.
Agree with round 6 and 9 but that was like ledderman said, to do with the type of fight you have to look for other things because they were both back and forth.
I dno Bradleys with TopRank and i read yest that Arum turned down the may fight with floyed over fight 4 with jmm.
I reckon Khan might take the MGM May 5th fight because they're both with GB.
Yea I meant 6 through 9 actually. I think the judges scored on work rate first and foremost. Only way at least for me to explain the 116-112 scorecard... But like it´s been said by a lot of experts, give one round to JMM, we have one scorecard 115-113 instead of 114-114... or a draw respectively... all depends on what the judges were looking for.
So overall I think the outcome is justified, I just think Manny is super pissed he didn´t follow the gameplan and force his pace. ( You can hear Freddie say after round 5 "We´re losing control" ). The way Manny wasn´t in the fight in my opinion points to some sort of major distraction. Forget the cramps n ****... he just wasn´t in the mode at all... very weird.
I think a 4th fight almost has to be the priority for Manny. I think Bob Arum also senses he can still milk the JMM-Manny matchup some more, and he´s probably right. Plus he just hates Mayweather, so he´s not gonna hurry making any negotiations...
I don´t know if Mayweather beats Khan... I give Khan a serious shot at beating Floyd, he´s got a very high boxing IQ and Freddie Roach in his corner, so...
2 More and Cotto's knee would've gotten a work outUmmm... nah. Nah dude, I seriously doubt it. I would have thought Margarito could put on more pressure and walk down Cotto, but he never cut off the ring like in the first fight, and he was far from building that kind of momentum. All talk about loaded gloves aside, Cotto had a much better gameplan and made Margarito fight his fight.
Margarito should blame his corner, if anyone, for not stopping the Pacquiao fight earlier. He should have been protected from himself, instead they let him suffer a huge amount of unnecessary punishment over the course of at least 4 rounds, when it was evident that he was out of it.
The damage he sustained in the Pacquiao beating played a major role in the stoppage yesterday.
Marquez needs to fall back. He has no tact whatsoever. The best thing he could have done was keep his mouth shut for a month and let Manny and Bob sweat. Juan Manuel Marquez has in essence, become Manny's way out. Juan needs to use that as leverage, but not so overtly. He is no longer with Golden boy so he is in fact his own promoter. That vacancy in his camp reveals itself with ill timed comments such as this one. He needs to hire someone special to represent him at the table. Someone with education. Not Nacho who is his manager from what I understand. Not good enough. JMM management failed him the last time he was in an advantagous position. Instead of a Manny rematch they sent him to bumblefu%k to fight a fight he had no chance of winning for $32,000! Juan has become a player, lets just hope he does not out-think himself. He should not be doing the thinking. Going back to Golden boy asap may be his best move. He can forget the fight going down in Mexico. Not going to happen with Cowboy Stadium all warmed up and ready to go. We shall see. I agree that if it´s made it´ll probably be in Texas, maybe Top Rank or whoever´s in charge will make a concession of some sort, for example one Mexican judge or something... I would have loved to see Pac v JMM 3 be made instead of the Clottey fight, hell, even instead of the Mosley fight. Terrible fights, total duds.
anyone associated with pacquiao is overrated as far as the mayweathers are concerned...oh well, at least he said Margarito was knocked out by Manny, which wasn´t the case... a show of respect for Manny there ;)...
he keeps saying the same old sheet over and over again before every fight. you are gonna see a new khan this that. working on this that. freddy showed me this ad that. virgil has show me this and that. He said all this before peterson, garcia and now diaz. it's the same old story............
Well I wouldn't exactly say I'm p*ssed about what he says before/ after every fight... I think more than anything it's a kind of psychological tool he uses on himself, pressure himself to increase awareness, get himself riled up ("if I lose this I'm done bla bla..."). Gotta admit he did show some improvement in the psychological department though. He let himself get sucked into some unnecessary exchanges that resulted in knockdowns in the Garcia fight where he might have otherwise been able to just stay on his bike and get himself back together. He did seem more aware not to make this mistake again, and I thought he kept himself under control better after the knockdown by Diaz, not trying to slug it out. That being said, Khan just remains dangerously susceptible to left hooks. That's a major weakness of his, as evidenced vs Garcia/ Molina/ Diaz. And I have yet to see the difference in "positioning" Virgil Hunter is talking about... Khan has the speed and foundation to control the pace of a fight much better than is the case at the moment. But hey, the dude makes for exciting fights... they should make Khan vs Ortiz next at WW, hahaha... I'd pay for that ;)
