Dornov clearly punches hard. KO loss as an amateur though, as well as a walkover loss. Makes me think he'd lose to the best of the best. Still looks like he could be quite a force for awhile at least. Certainly a prospect to watch. Makes me want to see Mark Petrovsky, the guy who got the KO over him.
He became "Champion in recess" requiring a year out of the ring. So he likely fights Alberto Puello when he comes back. Outside of that, a rematch with Garcia is the only interesting thing I think he can do. But he probably will object to the concept.
If it was me, no more than once a month, and take months off if you get knocked down. You should be spending way more time on drills than sparring. After a few dozen sparring rounds you'll start to feel a little more comfortable in there and that's probably plenty for self defense.
He is the next mandatory for Janibek and Adames already. So we're probably getting Sheeraz vs. one of them in the next 12 months. At least I hope so. Only reason why we wouldn't is if everyone avoids him. Lara is probably the most vulnerable so Lara vs. Sheeraz could happen too, but he's not the mandatory for that belt, Shane Mosley Jr. is.
Problem is you'd have to use open scoring. Let everyone know the score round by round. Open scoring sucks, because it looks like Olympic boxing where the guy who wins 2 rounds will spend the 3rd round running away.
Personally I'd say we create a rule blocking any match where the boxers are 15 years apart. Maybe start at 20 years and then work our way down.
There's four recognized world titles, Boxrec now only recognizes 3 of them. I don't remember the full reason, but I believe it had to do with WBA and Turki.
IBA has never been recognized as a world title. I'm upset they recognize the IBO tbh
I'm not concerned about them listing IBA titles. BoxRec doesn't list all types of lesser titles. Skipping the WBA is truly bizarre and I've never seen an article explaining what the two are even upset about.
They don't list IBA events AT ALL. But apparently when a WBA title is on the line they list it. It feels like a contradiction. I'm wondering what the rules are.
Ive got a Dazn subscription and it still cost $29 for the PPV to watch the fight.
What I said applies to North America. Which is the only place where it's being chopped in half and shown on two different networks.
They list the fights, they just don't recognize the WBA title anymore.
IBA isn't recognized by anyone
Why to both? And also I realize the IBA events are different. But BoxRec has Team Combat League records in a separate category, surely they could do the same? What exactly is the beef here?
Love it, and I like it a lot more than Crawford because Crawford would be the obvious favorite. I love watching Fundora. He's absolutely beatable if Spence is at top form, but most people seem to think Spence is cooked.
All I want is an entertaining fight without a 100% obvious winner. And this fight delivers that. Spence is getting -225, Fundora +178.
The WBA is working with Turki to replace Boxrec with FightFax - a boxing records keeper from the 90s.
Boxrec isn't just a website, it's recognized as the official record keeper of boxing by the ABC (organization of all sanctioning bodies). FightFax used to be the official record keeper, but never made a real records website.
FightFax has copied Boxrec's structure and scr@ped all of their data to recreate the website format under their own banner. The legality is arguable, but this is definitely shady.
Turki was trying to buy Boxrec over the summer, but now it seems he plans to just steal it.
Where are you receiving news like this? Any specific articles or social media accounts?
It's so dumb.
ESPN+ is the only one carrying the main event. Period. You can't get it from anywhere else.
The undercard is available for $19.99 as a PPV, or it's 'free' with a DAZN subscription which starts at $29.99 per month for a standalone month. And don't forget to cancel on day 1, because they have a 30 day cancellation policy.
This may seem unimportant but somehow Abass Baraou became number 1 contender for Bud Crawford by the WBA. So if he can lose a fight it might save us all from a boring match.
Two really good fights. Then Vito Mielnicki. One of the worst prospects who keeps getting TV time. It'll be satisfying when he finally fights Zayas and gets KOd.
He looked like shit though. To quote Liam Smith on the broadcast, "these two (Eubank Jr. and Benn) need to fight each other next or it will be embarassing."
You would think he'd want to build up some legitimacy as some sort of regional boxing champion first. Simply participating in the Olympics doesn't seem like enough, beyond having a cool name. Seems like the WWE could allow him to do both? Like 3 fights in 6 months, then 6 months in WWE? Or if he had a twin brother and one could box and one could WWE? That makes sense.
And they're the only promoter on Sky Sports or TNT Sports. Just lost their USA streaming partner Peacock. Their recent event Azim/Lipinets had to be shown on TrillerTV+.
Boxxer needs to find a better broadcaster and fast.
What is up with the IBF and Germany ? Why are the mandatories for German based boxers ? Just a coincidence?
Wow, it holds true for the 5 heaviest weight classes if we include Scull (Cuban who fights in Germany) and Etinosa Oliha (Italian who fights in Germany). The German streak is sort of kept in tact at 154 too, Abass Baraou is the number 1 contender for the WBA.
This article defending Whittaker is almost as pathetic as what happened. We watched it, I don't need an article saying I don't know what I saw. Whittaker quit. Cameron agreed. This article is trying to pretend like it's debatable if Whittaker was really hurt. No. It's not debatable. Elliot Worsell if you're reading this, this is a bad article and it insults my intelligence as a viewer. I know what I saw.
Is that really the best available? What about Elijah Pierce, Shabaz Masoud, Tito Sanchez? This looks so incredibly non-competitive on paper that I'm concerned for the health of the fighter.
