No doubt that this is a great fight that everyone wants to see, however I think its a good call to wait until both guys are bigger names before they face off. This fight has huge marketing potential, and a long-standing rivalry like this won't lose its appeal as long as both fighters continue in their current form. I think Fury knows this, and Price probably does as well, however now that Fury has been open about his not wanting the fight right now all Price has to do is continue to call him out, knowing full well that a fight at a later date is better for both financially, and that his constantly challenging Fury only builds the hype for a fight that will eventually happen anyways. Both guys know they will fight each other, its just a show for now....
At 154 or 147?
u nailed it lol, this fight will never happen due to the weight. Guerrero can't move up to 154, and i doubt at cotto's age he will be able to move down. maybe a catchweight would work but in that case cotto would still be able to bully guerrero with his naturally bigger size. good fight for cotto, bad fight for guerrero.
All i can see is Money Floyd vs MARZQUEZ II, waiting for it to announce!
Don't think anyone really wants to see floyd pick apart JMM again....even with Juan's newfound punching power. Floyd-Canelo or Floyd-Martinez please.
This event will be a good one, Viloria v Marquez was a real treat. On top of that there's Zhou Shi Ming's debut. Intriguing experiment in the growth of Asian boxing, hope we see more of these events in the future.
I wouldn't call him defensive, he has his own high pressure style that is very offensive at times. Only defensive in the sense that he's so hard to hit cleanly....dude is slick
His numbers are inflated, but he's had some solid foes. His last opponent, the Thai, had an inflated record but he can fight and it was a good scrap. Enoki, Yordan, & Juarez were all solid challengers. Kimura was a former titlist who had a good comeback win before taking on John.
Problem is that, while there has been some solid (and Hosono counts for that too), there hasn't been quite enough and he hasn't done anything to unify the class which would at least be something to validate some of his stats.
Good points, and yea i enjoyed the Pripyano fight as well, was expecting John to show his age since he has been in some serious wars but the guy still has quite the motor and outworked the Thai. But honestly who of the big American or European names have called out John lately? nobody, and I think thats a big factor in his not being able to unify.... he's a high risk low reward. If he gets beat in the states then most american fans will say he's just another fighter out of Asia with a protected record, and any belt holding boxer won't want to risk losing to John (because its a very real possibility that they would, just watch what he was able to do against marquez).
Boner is not leaving USA anytime soon.
Agreed, i doubt Broner will fight anywhere outside of the US. A fight in the UK would be a massive advantage for Burns, and I can't see Broner accepting the fight under those circumstances. Don't get me wrong I would rather they fight in the UK, it would bring in much better numbers than a fight in the states, plus Burns isn't that well known in the States, wherein Broner is viewed as a villain and is well known in Europe.
I thought Abril won against Rios by a wide margin, but I don't like his chances if there's a rematch. Broner-Abril doesn't sound great at first but I think it could be a really interesting fight, Abril would test Broner's boxing IQ and we could all get a better look at Abril. I like his style, really cerebral.... hope he gets some more exposure soon, he deserves it.
Start fighting the best before you call yourself the best. Broner has promise but needs to step up to back up that mouth of his. I hope he's half as good as he says he is.
Ruslan will keep on coming and Tim will keep on tagging him until the decision victory.
Agreed, Im interested to see how bradley deals with a big welterweight, which Pac isn't. In theory should be a win for Tim, but if Provodnikov is able to get in close and start using his muscle and size it could make things interesting. For some reason Tim can't translate his muscle to punching power.....flaw in his technique? Ive seen him throw a lot of slapping hooks in a couple fights....
I still can't decide who i favour to win this one, but its sure to be a beauty. Three biggest factors will be donaire's power, rigo's ability to take a punch, and rigo's incredible boxing iq. My hunch is either a brutal early knockout by donaire, or rigo completely outclasses him for 12 rounds.
Great matchup, Chisora is on a losing streak but he always comes to win. For Price this fight is good for a number of reasons. For one he will finally fight someone who isn't a complete bum, and despite Chisora's losses it will be a step up for David. Also I find Price has always looked a tad uncomfortable when guys get on the inside against him, and Chisora will certainly expose any weaknesses on the inside if there are any. There is also the draw of "Redemption" that makes this fight particularly marketable, it will truly be make or break for both fighters.
Call me crazy but I see Chisora coming out on top as long as his chin stands up to Price's monstrous straights. Chisora also has the advantage of having faced fighters who are similar to Price in regards to height and punching power. Derek has faced the best of the British heavyweights and is therefore a perfect test for Price, and we can really see whether or not Price can overcome the embarrassing loss and pose a serious threat to the heavyweight champions and contenders.
Alexander is NOT world class, lets be real here. floyd knows he's on the way down and is just looking for an easy fight. Devon Alexander's real record: 22-3.....nuff said
If you think Martinez is better than Floyd. In the words of the immortal Roger Mayweather, "you don't know **** about boxing.". If Martinez were a welterweight instead of a middleweight, or Floyd were a natural middleweight, Floyd would be a huge favorite going into that fight.
Yeah If that were the case I see Martinez getting knocked down a lot, not because of Floyd's punching power but because Floyd would catch him off balance with clean, well timed shots. A lot of times Martinez gets knocked down due to lack of balance, he has a style that depends on punches from unorthodox angles....one of his strengths but also a weakness.
Should be another good one, though if Alvarado tries too hard to box he won't be as competitive. His best moments in the first fight were when he was just so active that Rios could do nothing but try and avoid punches.
Yeah I agree that when Alvarado was most active and throwing mad combos at Rios he looked the best, but I think thats what led to his downfall as well. He was the first one to break down, partly due to the fact that he had to work so hard to keep Rios off his chest. I thought Alvarado would win the first fight because he's a little more refined than BamBam, but Rios was an animal and kept coming forward, eating shots like he was starving .... probs because he's always a corpse at the weigh-ins idk, guy is nuts. Not sure who will win this time, but Rios definitely has the upper hand psychologically after the first fight.
That boys, was a great rematch. loved the first fight, and tbh i thought it would be the same the second time around. But Stieglitz came in with confidence and bullied AA from the first bell, landed that beauty straight and the rest was just clockwork. Would love a third fight, and if Stieglitz and Groves face off I would bet on Stieglitz after watching him td.
The Klitschko's take way too much hate these days.....the heavyweight division is brutal without the Brothers K, and honestly who do you propose they fight? There is nobody who can pose a serious threat to Wlad, and the young prospects that plan on taking over the heavyweight division are in no way ready, and are all just waiting for the Champs to retire. Yes, the heavyweight division is in a serious slump, but don't hate on the Klitschko's for it....
Be it Lopez, Soto or Maidana, all three fights would be a great matchup. I see Lopez giving Khan the most trouble. The Soto fight would be good from a technical standpoint but has a high probability of turning into a real snoozer. Virgil Hunter is unreal and just needs to keep Amir's ego in check.
As for Maidana-Lopez, doesn't anyone want to see Marcos take on somebody who's not just a brawler? He's made huge progress with Garcia and can now box as well as brawl, which was evident in the Soto-Karass fight...he has developed quite the jab when he wants to throw it. Looked like sh&* against Alexander but i think that was due to his moving up in weight as opposed to Devon's skills. I'd be more interested in Khan-Maidana II....a win for either fighter would make a huge statement in regards to their growth. Either way Khan needs to start fighting big punchers again, his vulnerable chin could be an asset in marketing those fights...I know the Brits love it, some hold their breath every time he takes a solid shot to the head. :D
A lot of people like to point at Rigo's chin as the reason why Donaire will win this match-up. Yet, Guille has never been knocked out or even in serious trouble. I'd say the jury is still out on Rigo's beard, but to say that Nonito will KO him with the first solid shot he lands is a bit much. Rigondeaux is a deadly counter-puncher with awesome skills, speed and power. If he manages to stay conscious for twelve rounds he could very well win this encounter.
u make some good points! all in all a good matchup with lots of angles, still not sure who id put money on.
If Donaire had all those reasons he didn't do well against Rigondeaux, why not have a rematch. If the excuses are legit he should perform better. Not only that but the spotlight would also be on Rigondeaux again. Might help his marketability. Seems to me like Arum is fixated on Donaire so he's giving him an "easy" fight.
I can't see a rematch happening, Donaire was schooled for 12 rounds and i just don't think he has the boxing iq to be able to beat rigo. plus its not a very marketable fight, I loved the first one but not a lot of casual fans will tune in for a second fight. both guys should go their separate ways, for donaire a loss against one of the greatest amateur champions of all time really doesn't look that bad, and for Rigo i have a feeling he will continue to embarrass elite fighters with his brilliant boxing.
Starting to get even more excited for this fight. Got to admit that at first I thought Donaire would easily demolish Rigo with one punch, as his chin is suspect after the Marroquin fight. But the incredible confidence that Rigo has shown in his campaign to get the bout, and the fact that he has been more vocal than Donaire now that the deal is through has me thinking otherwise. Rigo is a wizard in the ring, and i doubt that he would agree to a fight that he didn't believe he could win. The question now is what does Rigo have up his sleeve? The outcome of the fight will depend solely on Rigo's game plan because we all know Donaire will be Donaire fight night. While many think Donaire to be an unstoppable KO machine, one need only look at the Narvaez fight to see that a boxer can survive 12 rounds with the flash, and lets be real here... Rigo is far better than Narvaez and can be deadly fighting off the back foot. All in all this will be a good one, one of the best to be announced for 2013 so far, January has been *&$% for boxing.
To be honest, it was not even a chin shot from Thompson, more like an equilibrium shot. Is that still considered having no chin? lol
yeah definitely an equilibrium shot, he reminded me of Khan when he got up and started stumbling around. Another heavyweight down, can nobody pose a real threat to the Klitshko's? I'd like to see more of Wilder, and I think Fury will be a force at HW. Spectacular fight, this is what boxing is all about....nobody, including myself gave Thompson a chance and he proved us all wrong.
