He was shaken up but he wasn't knocked out, fights get stopped early in the amateur game, that's just the way it goes. People can't say Joshua has a glass chin based on this, this is boxing and the amateurs is where most fighters learn their trade.
Vitali got knocked out cold by Pele Reid in amateur kickboxing, no one ever said he had a bad chin.
I tried ordering the fight tonight but something is up with my cable. I really appreciate the updates and reading all your opinions. Keep em coming. Thank you from a fellow boxing fan.
It's taken me a long time to pick a winner with Wlad and Fury.
I've taken many factors in to account.
I've considered Wlad's strength and experience, his boxing ability, a student of the late great Emanuel Steward.
But I'm picking Tyson Fury.
Here's why....
- klitschko is not the same fighter under Jonathon Banks, I believe Banks could be a great trainer but he is not the guy to motivate Wlad like Steward did, we saw this in his fight with Jennings, that's a fight that Manny would have demanded a KO.
this is the biggest reason why I'm picking Fury....
- Fury like his name (which is tongue in cheek) is actually too fast and I'm talking hand speed, as much as you don't know what to take serious fron Tyson's rants, I actually agree with him when he's says Wlad's best chance is in the first round. As the fight goes on, I only see Fury getting better and peppering him with his hand speed and switch hitting. Tyson does not have one punch power and I can't see him flattening the champ in devastating fashion but I can see the tide turning and picture a scenario with Wlad not getting off his stool for the next round.
- height and reach are also big factors here and Tyson has the ability to sidestep which could be very effective.
- does Wladimir have the ability to dig deep? We saw him dig deep against Sam Peters many moons ago to get off the canvas three times to clinch a decision but like I said that was a long time ago and Wlad has not had to deal with a real challenge since.
- the will to win. I do not believe Tyson Fury will ever be dedicated enough to compete with Wladimirs longevity in the game due to his lifestyle, I believe Furys peak will last 3 or 4 years top, possibly less....but his time is now, he's a huge man, a smart man, a young man in the prime of his life and I believe he has the will to win. This is his time and I think he knows he's going to Germany to become champion of the world.
If Calzaghe returns, fights and beats Froch in his first fight back.......top 10 ATG.
Calzaghe would teach Froch a hard lesson. Those fighters are not on the same level. American fans should appreciate Calzaghe, he would have destroyed Ward That guy only has a career coz Calzaghe retired. I'm not even a fan, but he would punch the **** out of people, like it or not.
Heard from many sources that Calzaghe is coming back for a while. He wants four more fights. His first fight will probably be against Bika, then he wants Froch and Ward. He's been in training for the last 6 months and is looking good.
Dumbest **** ever. You can be a fan of the sport and also a fan of individual fighters. I love the sport but there are guys I root for and root against. There's also fights I watch where I couldn't care who wins, just want to see a good fight. Liking someone doesn't make you less of a fan of the sport. Being a fan of a fighter actually enhances your love of the game because it gives you more of a reason to watch. I'm interested in watching every fight, but I'll admit sometimes I have to DVR a fight here and there, but there has to be a something substantial going on for me to DVR one of my favorites fighting. It's the same as rooting for a team in football, everything is 10x more exciting if your team is a part of it
Well said. That's how I feel about boxing too.
- Felix Trinidad
- Lennox Lewis
- Joe Calazaghe
Who else you guys want to add to the list?
Disagree on Trinidad. The Roy Jones fight was not a good look.
here's a pic of him training for his next fight

That's Joe on his way to America, his family took the plane but he insisted on taking his boat while shadow boxing.
My favorite fighter is Nigel Benn. The first fight I remember watching live was Benn against Eubank. He lost that fight too....but it's the fight that got me in to boxing and I've never gone back. There is nothing wrong with supporting your home fighter, especially when you're a kid. He did us proud and because of him I went on to learn and appreciate all the great fighters that all you guys have mentioned in this topic. It's a tough question to answer but ill go with Benn for making me a boxing fan for life. DARK DESTROYER!
These are tough questions but who is my favorite active fighter? Im gonna go with Kovalev coz I like that he destroys people, he wants to fight the best and even Mike Tyson said he is his favorite fighter. He is exciting, true to the sport and I only hope that boxing politics don't hold him back.
Just got word, joe is back in training. He will be back soon. I think him seeing Froch and groves selling 80 thousand tickets at wembley made him want to come back. Froch Calzaghe will be even bigger.
To answer the thread title question - easily Corrales vs Castillo. I explain why in my BoxingScene blo entry, though I do need to update it as I have watched it lots of times since and have more thoughts on it. It is the perfect boxing fight. I can't ask for anything more.
The topic is about YOUR favorite fight. We all know Corrales Castillo was one of the greatest fights.
you are the IDIOT keep on hugging your favorite boxer nuts get the fock out of here fanboy
Okay man I was a bit out of line to call you an idiot, I just think you we're a bit rude with your comment. Join in on the debate.....favorite fighter?
how did calzaghe get to the hall of fame? i thought he was scared of flying. boat perhaps?
Joe bought a little boat with the money he made from the Jones fight.
he did not look like he had been training for last 6 months in groves froch build up show...not at all
He took some time off at that point, like he did with the hall of fame. He's been working the mitts and started hitting the heavy bag again.
