The thing that hurts Heavyweight division is american heavyweights are now going to become power forwards in the NBA or linebacker in NFL,, alot of money and stardom being in nfl or nba,,, not so much in boxing
This is it right here.
As far as ESPN, First take is the worst show on an idiot network. ESPN programming, outside of FNF imo, is expertly tailored to appeal to the lowest common denominator of the North American male population, which is pretty ****in' low.
I agree. He kinda looks like an mma guy doing padwork. Or a recently converted football player still learning how to think and move like a boxer. He could probably learn a lot from watching the Banks padwork video.
8 Count should do the ballpark thing every year, maybe twice: A "spring classic," then a "Summer classic." Chicago is a town divided into ethnic tribes, perfect for supporting boxing.
As for Fonfara, I hope he has a nice career and makes some money, but surely he can't be the future of the Lt. Heavyweight division.
I'm in the states, and I'm stoked for this
By reputation and popular perception, Froch should have this kid in the bag.
However, when you look at his fights, what does Froch actually do at an elite level besides take punches and fight at pace late in fights?
If this evolves into a battle of jabs and movement, who wins that battle? And, if it goes that way, will Groves, a popular UK fighter and potentially a cash cow for UK promoters for the next ten years, get the same treatment from the judges that Andre Dirrell got when he boxed the nectar out of Froch three years ago?
I admit Groves gives the perception of being fragile, he just doesn't "look like a fighter," and he has been put on the deck with hard single shots in the past. But is this what Froch does, KO elite boxers with one shot? Has he ever stopped an elite opponent who wasn't physically compromised (Taylor) or notoriously fragile (Bute)?
There are many questions to consider before you lay 1-4 or greater on King Carl on Saturday night.
Shiming is what he is
He's a decent, volume punching six round fighter who lacks pop. Its just damned weird seeing a guy like that headline an arena/HBO card with two quality championship fights and a heavyweight showdown underneath. The Chinese don't yet know from boxing. When they do, they'll look back on Zhou Shiming with amusement.
****e!
Has team Rosado never heard of a get-well fight? I've become a big Gabe Rosado fan over the past year, but damn, those Charlo boys are for real. Look for another game effort from Rosado that falls just short of victory.
Are we gonna keep seeing Sergey fight Bums? HBO has fell off. All they show is Stars fighting Bums. When are they gonna show a 50/50 fight and not thses over hyped lopsided BS?
Yeah, like Provodnikov-Alvarado, just set up fights broham.
I thought that's what he was doing
They had just changed shots and his left was still over the right elbow like he had just gave the up yours, but I couldn't be sure. I'm glad to get journalistic confirmation. KOvalev won me $20, I placed my bet a month ago and laid +150.
Still, no regrets!
Duran Overstates His Case
Its possible this is a translation issue. Statements get mangled in translation and nuance is lost very often. I doubt RD meant to say Floyd would be some kind of club fighter in the '70s. But, there is no way he would go undefeated for 16 years from say '72 to '88 fighting championship level at 130-154. That would take a level of cherry-picking that was not possible in the WBC/WBA era.
His skills are fantastic but without that 0 on the end of his record he wouldn't have the same mystique he enjoys today. Duran (in translation) overstates it, but his basic message stands.
Kirkland is this generation's Frank "The Animal" Fletcher. Fun to watch, but he's gonna have some problems down the road. I mean, he's had problems already, but I'm afraid its gonna end real sad for him.
Rip
Poor boy makes good, loses it all, dies young. Sad, all too frequent story in this sport.
If Tommy Morrison had say, Ray Mercer's chin, we would be talking about him as an all time great. As it was he was a talented but flawed action fighter who was right up there near the top during the Heavyweight division's last golden era.
