According to Egis Klimas, manager of WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21KOs), the feared Russian puncher is going to be very active in 2014 and may fight up to four times in the next twelve months. There are currently ongoing talks with HBO for a televised date in the first quarter of the year. One possible opponent who Main Events CEO Kathy Duva mentioned to BoxingScene.com, is popular Polish fighter Andrzej Fonfara (25-2, 15KOs).
"We are negotiating with HBO and already have several options [on when Sergey can] return - February 22, March 22 and March 29. As for the names of possible opponents, there is still nothing solid......possibly the highly regarded Polish boxer Andrzej Fonfara from Chicago or maybe the winner of the fight between Pascal and Bute," Klimas said.
