No. The first available opportunity was when Rico went down with his head between the ropes. The ref let him spit the mouthpiece to chew time instead of calling time out. He let Rico get up and saw that he was defenceless in the follow up. The minute in the corner wouldnt have saved him. Usyk would.....if not knocking him out...would have at least dropped him more than once in the final round. Fury said it best when he said Rico put up a great fight but just ran out of energy.
Yes, I feel that if Rico hadn't gassed, we might be looking at a new HW boxing champ whose roots are in kick boxing.
Wow, WTF was that new BS site format? I felt like I fell asleep and awoke to a dark, foreboding BS existence from the pit of hell. Thanks, SteveM for pointing out that we can still access the old format. I was seriously thinking of hanging 'em up!
The fact that they are selling this peice of SHT as a PPV is ridiculous! EVERY SINGLE ONE of the opponents from Usyk, Sheeraz, and Caterall are complete unkowns in Boxing! The only somewhat interesting fight is Torrez vs Sanchez. Pathetic!
Definitely, PPV-worthy, this is NOT!! :nonono:
... the thing is - there's not one person who'd have picked Chelli. Maybe 1 or 2 might have picked Moseley. I think choosing closer odds fights is the best way even if they are slightly less well known such as this weeks. The ones that get me are the straw-weight title fights between 2 I've never heard of
Maybe some blokes from England would have picked Chelli out of loyalty or just having a feeling.
Basically, when there is a weekend with a scarcity of meaningful fights we look to include secondary ones that are well-balanced. Such is the case of Gomez Jr vs McGregor this time.
Also, mea culpa for having missed Mosley Jr vs Bohachuk last week... though I feel that most of us, if not ALL of us, would have picked Bohachuk...
Yes, that was a surprise KO win for Mosely, Jr
That was more of Morrell just really underperforming than Chelli winning.
:lol1: That was more about Morrell underestimating his last-minute, schoolteacher opponent. And Chelli fighting a big-name opponent like his life depended on it. Result = Morrell GTFKO!
Canelo Alvarez is a greater fighter than David Benavidez and has a better resume.
The reality is? David Benavidez is most likely in the latter part of his career. So this notion or narrative that he is the future of boxing, is nonsense in my opinion. He has already shown potential signs that he does not have the work ethic to have the longevity of Canelo Alvarez, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Junior, Manny Pacquiao'.
'And whether people like to acknowledge it or not. Canelo Alvarez is a miles greater fighter'.
This must be some domestic Mexican thing, where people pick between David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez 'for various reasons'.
Note: Daggum David Benavidez is not all time great cruiserweight fighter, and it appears like he is also reluctant to challenge himself at Heavyweight 'so stop talking about him in the same arena as David Haye'.
David Haye beat Nikola Valuev while being outweighed by 7 stone 'and he knocked out a absolute peak version of Derek Chisora. While heavyweight fighters from this era, have been struggling vs. a miles outside of his peak Derek Chisora'.
Tyson Fury has fought Derek Chisora three times 'the first fight could have went ether way. The second fight Fury fought Chisora on the back foot. And once again in the third fight, he was reluctant to fight Chisora head on'.
Derek Chisora is stylistically one of the most easiest fights for Tyson Fury to win 'but in my opinion, he still was unable to score the most impressive win over Chisora'.
David Haye has the most impressive win over Derek Chisora 'he is the only heavyweight to fight Chisora head on and completely cancel out his momentum. Haye was the first heavyweight to deck and knockout Chisora, it would be another 6 years vs. Dillian Whyte II, that a similar feat was achieved'.
To conclude: But back onto the topic of David Benavidez 'If you like him as a fighter, then good for you 'but I believe that skill for skill, he is completely overrated'.
He has never been a undisputed Champion, and he has lost his World titles due to not being able to make the weight limit 'multiples times, which is a consequence using weight draining tactics for too long in his career'.
daggum
:lol1: Benavidez @ 29 years old "is most likely in the latter part of his career". So, what is Canelo @ 35, getting his second wind? Canelo, the "miles greater fighter". So, why won't he fight the "clearly inferior" Benavidez?
You do realize that Fury and Chisora are good friends? After Fury stopped Derek in 2014, they became pals. Hence, their third fight was little more than a big payday sparring session.
all applicable to Top Soviet Bivol too who'd box circles around Fat Dave
we'll find out soon how Top Soviet Bivol is after his successful back surgery
a full function Top Soviet Bivol is the hardest stylistic match for Fat Dave
having already beat a come forward guy who has far better footwork than Fat Dave
After surgery for a herniated disc in the lower back, I'd have to say, define "full function".
He is benefiting from eventually deciding to fight at his more natural fighting weight 'It would be a very unwise move for him to ever move back down to 175 pounds and below. Even for mega fights vs. Dmitry Bivol, Artur Beterbiev and Canelo Alvarez'.
Note: The only fighter out of those three fights, who I think in my opinion would be game to fight at cruiserweight is 'Canelo Alvarez, even still now at this stage of his career'
I agree? I don't think David Benavidez is the best pound for pound fighter in the world 'I would not even rate him as a top - 3 pound for pound fighter. But I will acknowledge that he is for sure an World level fighter'.
But I will say this? Since when has the Cruiserweight Divisions gained fighters so much credit? Because by my estimations both David Haye and Oleksandr Uysk were miles better cruiserweight fighters than David Benavidez. Maybe it is because he is an American fighter'.
I am sure David Haye could have started out his career weight draining himself, fighting in the lower weight divisions before 'fighting at cruiserweight and heavyweight. Maybe then people would have rated him as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the World'.
That is essentially what David Benavidez has done; he has only just now recently decided to fight at his more natural fighting weight 'he should have made this move many years ago'.
And although beating Zurdo Ramirez is a really solid win 'he has not cleared out the divisions. Ramirez was not the premier Champion, Jai Opetaia is highly regarded as the premier Cruiserweight Champion'.
To conclude: The fight vs. Jai Opetaia will be his first true elite level fight 'if David Benavidez can win that fight, then he will be considered a great pound for pound fighter but still not number 1' etc.
:lol1: What?? Among Canelo's many excuses for not facing Benavidez, one of them is that he feels David is too big for him. Canelo is too small to fight at cruiser weight and too scared to fight Benavidez at ANY weight.
Dubois should realistically beat Wardley just like Huni realistically should have beaten him.
I have no idea on this one.
Huni got happy and walked into that shot. Wardley timed him well.
This time I believe Fat Dave

The fact that almost all intentional elbows are thrown as a follow-through of a punch, rather than from a reset after a punch, tells me Benny didn't mean to throw it.
i should have known, !!
the fight was sponsored by the new mortal kombat movie,...,
amd now i have a guy name SUBZERO telling me about how elbows are A-OK
****!!
Yeah, it's a conspiracy! SUBZER0ED WINS, BRUTALITY!! :lol1:
im sure everyone who fights him afterward will be pulling the ref to the side and telling him to watch for it,.
you can see in training clips they practiced this. that new bald head guy they hired because association with SNAC was getting too hot.
How much did you lose betting on Zurdo? :lol1:
the readers of the thread will notice that everyone acknowledges the elbow landed, its just the dishonest ones who think it wouild have no effect , yet the end of the requence resulted in a KO.
2nd fight in a row benavidez had blatant fouled an opponent,
add that to the 2x suspensions for substances, elbows,, hitting while down, as dirrty as they come
Zurdo was pointing to his eye when he quit. His right eye was damaged from punches, not elbows. You can hate on Benny all you want, but nobody cares.
Beterbiev is an old elite fighter. he would be benavidez`s best win bar far. I don˙t believe Danny beats Beterbiev.
Beterbiev has superior Ring IQ; great skills and movement. His power is there. he is 1-1 with Bivol because Bivol is elite fighter himself.
Age is catching up to Artur. He knows that he only has so many fights left. Job #1 for him should be to face 35-year-old Bivol for the tiebreaker third time. If he wins, then he can either retire as the unified champ or dare to face Benavidez for the undisputed title. However, I think that facing 29-year-old Benavidez first will take too much out of him to face Bivol afterwards.
"A fight with Alvarez would potentially be the most compelling boxing has to offer." - Lucas Ketelle - give your head a wobble - Canelo is post prime now and win or lose vs Mbilli he is going to have another significant chunk of his prime taken from him in what will be a war as long as it lasts. If he gets by Mbilli - its a very easy fight for Benav. at 175 - Canelo would be better off to unify with Munguia assuming the latter still has his belt.
Fighters know fighters and Canelo knows Benavidez is too much for him. That's why he made up excuses not to fight him early on. He wants to go out winning, I assume, but the opponent needs to be somewhat of a threat without being too difficult.
:lol1: That elbow was incidental, as Benavidez brought his left hand back to a starting position. Stop acting like the 'bow made the difference in the outcome of the fight. Zurdo was out-worked and out-classed, period.

Davis lost his last fight. As the A side, he got a gift decision. Dude took a knee! The boxing world is in agreement that it should have been a 10-8 round. Two, Davis has NEVER expressed interest in facing Shakur. This is a fact again.
You are correct, it's Davis fault if he gets beat by anyone. This is boxing. You are either in it or not and for a guy that has been heralded as a potential ATG with otherworldly KO power, he should know better. Nobody is holding their breath for his "comeback" and I hope he gets beat whenever he comes back.
Davis will likely HAVE to come back in order to cover all of his legal bills and not be in the poor house.
