An ATG? Christ, he'd need to beat Ward, Kovalev and Stevenson and then jump up to heavyweight and win one of the belts there.. I don't see any sort of path for him in other words.
You're right! Temporarily lost my mind!
J.Razor: Disagree regarding Jacobs, although it was close. Agree regarding Canelo. Honestly not sure re the Charlo's or SMW champs. I would agree the LHWs are too big for him. Hope I get to find out (up to SMW)!
LetOutTheCage: Agree with everything you said. My inclusion of Jermall is simply a function of who remains at middleweight that might actually be a threat.
Shako93: I believe it's Jermell and Jermall. Jermell is slightly more the boxer of the two, while Jermall seems to be the bigger puncher. I mentioned Jermall because he has actually moved up to middleweight and GGG has beaten everyone else at that weight that is a real threat (I think). (Biggest challenge would probably be a rematch against Jacobs...close to a 50/50 call there). I've never seen Saunders fight but I've gathered from other's comments he's not that great (though he does have that belt).
Robbie Barrett: Funny reply! Well done! Ya got me. (Seriously, cool clip...did you do that yourself or paste it from elsewhere?) Yeah, you're right...read a couple other replies reminding me that essentially there is nothing he could do in this day/age to be #1. Sadiqkingofko's reply: "he'd have to conquer 168 and 175, Ward still isn't an ATG while arguably being the best SMW ever and becoming undisputed champ at 175, he might be an ATG if he's beats the WBSS winner at 200" was on point. Hey, it was late...
Knew he was good, but wasn't totally sold on him until last night. He is the goods and has it all! Feliz Diaz is, no joke, an excellent fighter yet Crawford intelligently out boxed him with every move and punch in the book and viciously beat the crap out of him! P4P he's in the top five and may even be #1.
Juniaboy nailed it re Golovkin's best options, although I would enjoy seeing him fight Lara. I think he'd track Lara down and beat him into submission/KO pretty easily...but right now I only think GGG is that good...I'd like to know for sure.
Somewhat disappointing night...all good fighters, but none stood out as exceptional. I had thought Jermall might, but I was wrong. Lara did win as I expected, but (if not for the bogus referee call) only by a round or two, and I suspect he'll be hurting worse than Vanes over the next week. I think any of the winners would be close competitors with Canelo, but I'd give Canelo a narrow edge at this point. I don't think any of them present a challenge to GGG (less than 10% chance, though due to styles, I think Canelo would have maybe a 25% chance).
Gawd I hate these BS decisions! Kudos to Colbert for fighting through adversity, but no way did he win that fight. Valenzuela won by at least two rounds!
