Body may be the key for Canelo. Golovkin didn't seem to like Jacob's body shots. Some think he's impervious to this tactic (and all others), as he's never been hurt by A body shot before, but I don't think anyone has ever attempted a sustained attack to his body. Probably a good plan, since he eats punches to the head like M&Ms (as Larry Merchant said, in reference to Antonio Margarito). Or maybe some of you are right, and he's the first invulnerable man in human history.
Scored the first fight a draw. Without the point deduction for headbutts, Rungvisai by two points (he was just busier and pressing the action most of the time). Commentators were swearing Gonzalez was winning rounds, via a few flurries at times. However, Gonzalez was a true warrior throughout, although his gushing cranium definitely hindered his work, in the later rounds. Roman's efforts in the twelfth was nigh worth two points.
The Rigo that fought Donaire would have had a damn good chance. Now at 36 (the little guys age quickly), and moving up in weight, defeating Loma doesn't seem too likely. Loma is young and prime and I'd pick him to win this, without much trouble.
Fair enough. All fighters have their crazed fanatics. Oh and I didn't single them out based on skin color. The article was concerning Loma, and he and Gennady seem to have the largest congregations of mad worshipers, proclaiming that they're better than every fighter ever. I've never heard anyone proclaim Spence to be better than any ATGs, but someone probably has.
I don't know who looked worse recently; Mayweather or Paquiao. I guess Floyd. At least Pacquiao looked severely diminished against an actual boxer. Still glad Floyd won. Losing to MacGregor would have been bad for our sport.
One of my favorite things about Lomachenko is...
He made everyone forget to offer up praise to GGG. I'm sorry, it was getting disgusting. Guys saying he was better than Hagler, and Ali, even Ray Robinson!!! The Loma fandom is headed in the same direction, but for now, it's a nice break. Before I am branded a hater, I should also mention that Loma IS praiseworthy, and I thought his abilities were otherworldly two years prior to the craze; based on the eye test of course. Nothing against the highly talented Golovkin, just fanatics are so pesky.
It's ridiculous that Crawford probably won't fight again, this year. He breezed through his last fight, in just 3 rounds, and should be ready to go again by November. Jessie Vargas hasn't been busy lately. Not a fight we're all clamoring for, but it'll keep Terence busy, and be an introduction to welterweight.
As far as sports, boxing is the only one I watch, and care about, so I have to ask: Does McGregor ever shut up? My guess is that he doesn't until it's time to fight.
Personally, I'd like to see this next...
Move up to 147, SOON. Fight Danny (and win), fight Porter (and win); Spence and Thurman fight, Crawford fights the winner.
The size difference, and especially the age disparity, will likely spell defeat for Rigondeaux. These are not excuses but actual determining factors in professional boxing, at the lighter weights (hell, 36 is old even for a middleweight). This doesn't mean I can't wait to watch this fight.
Both men will be facing the best man they've ever fought, by far. Rigo will have to find a way to deter Loma from his usual high-volume pace; probably by deviating from his own usual pace (one punch at a time), while maintaining nigh perfect defense, as Rigondeaux can be hurt.
How about the fight after next? Pac vs Horn 2 will be in November, which means Crawford couldn't fight the winner until early 2018. I'd like Crawford to have a third fight this year (as quickly and painlessly as he blew through Indongo, he could likely fight again by October). Really I'd prefer Crawford not fight and conquer what's left of Pac (If Manny wins). Not sure Manny can challenge him at this point, and it'd just be more ammunition for his detractors.
Canelo was more mobile than ever before. So what? Doesn't matter. He stood toe-to-toe with Gennady plenty of times, and he also deliberately placed himself on the ropes, several times and beckoned to Golovkin, and he still could barely land a shot. Golovkin had plenty of opportunities to ply his "Mexican style" but Canelo's defense wouldn't permit it. It was a close fight, that everyone should watch more than once, so they can be sure of what they thought they saw.
People who claim Golovkin won comfortably (there are a lot), must be giving him rounds just for coming forward and swinging, albeit at air. Canelo was far more accurate, and I daresay gave Gennady a boxing lesson at times. Alvarez gassed out and his punch output dropped, after the halfway point. After two viewings, I scored the fight a draw: Rounds 1,2,3,6,9, and 12 to Canelo. 4,5,7,8,10 (extremely close round), and 11 to Gennady. No matter who won the round, it was never by far. Again, it was a close fight, in which Canelo didn't do quite enough, and Golovkin wasn't quite effective enough.
Hence the phrase "I'd like". Spence vs Crawford seems to be what everyone is slavering for. I'd like to see it too, but after Terence has become acclimated to the new weight - OR, none of those fights could ever happen; just wishful thinking. Oh, and it would be ridiculous if Spence vs Thurman never happens - absolutely no excuse for that fight to never occur.
What crimes? Getting ripped off and deciding enough is enough I want my ride back?
Not condoning what he did but it was hardly criminal. Just some bodyshop guy trying to squeeze extra money off a client who he knows has money.
Agreed. And what does he mean "locked up for a long time"? Pretty sure it was all misdemeanors; probably just malicious mischief.
Sorry for all you guys that were praying for an upset; I know y'all had your fingers crossed. Not this time boys. It's okay, one day you'll realize he's special.
If he retires now, would he someday be Hall of Fame worthy? I'm not sure he's done enough. But if he doesn't give a damn about that anymore, I can understand. I'll never forget the guy that gave Ward his first real beating.
