Guys boxing is a business. Stop with this "Canelo wants him to earn the fight" nonsense. There are many reasons why the fight isn't happening. Maybe Golovkin wants too much money. Maybe Canelo want the fight to happen in Vegas and GGG doesn't. Many, many reasons...
When you watch a fight live it is very hard to be objective. Commentators, screaming crowd, the fact that Golovkin is backing up, etc. All these things influence your perception of the fight. I am a huge GGG fan and I thought he lost when I watched the fight live. Then I rewatched it with a sound being turned off and I saw a very very close fight won by Golovkin.
Why would he need to win the next 9 rounds?...I'll wait
If on your card GGG won rounds 1,2,8,10,12...he lost the fight.
Did you watch the fight? There was a knockdown in the first round. Hence 1st round is scored 10-8 for Golovkin. In other words, this round is counted as 2 rounds for Golovkin.
Happens to older fighter.
It's problem for Kovalev as well actually - clearly not the same bounce and spring in his step as in his prime. Just take a look at first Pascal fight or Hopkins fight and compare to his more recent fights.
He can still move, but it's not the same.
I agree that Kovalev is not the same as he was. But he moves better than Golovkin and he doesn't rely on one punch as GGG does now. He boxes more I think. The problem for Kovalev is his stamina and chin. Golovkin is more durable.
I hope New coach Will make Golovkin's inside fighting better. They always talk about mexican style, but he likes to keep his opponents at the distance. I don't think he fights well on the inside.
All the haters should realize that there are mandatory defense obligations. And I think it is not a bad thing. If a champion always fought other champions, other boxers wouldn't get a shot. Szeremeta gets a chance of a life time. Just like Ruiz. Ruiz got a chance and became a champion. If Joshua only fought Wilder, Fury and Usyk, Ruiz wouldn't become a champion.
I remember people saying "oh, Canelo is not middleweight fighter, he is moving up to fight Golovkin, GGG is much bigger..." And now he is natural middleweight they say...
Canelo vs Bivol at 168. It would be a great fight. Bivol is not a big Light heavyweight. And he said that he can make 168. But I am sure this fight won't happen. Bivol is not a big name in boxing, so Alvarez won't fight him. But Bivol can beat him.
Are you that dense? Canelo started his career at 140 lbs, he grew as he aged, what's there to be confused about? the question is GGG has been a middleweight his entire career feasting on tomato cans and super welterweights his for over a decade.
Yeah, he grew. He became "natural middleweight" long before fighting Golovkin. He fought championship fights at 155, being a "natural middleweight". Look how big he was against Cotto. He was getting an advantage over his opponents.
And now his growth accelerated. Over about 2 years he grew to become 168 fighter, aiming to fight at 174.
After seeing Kovalev, Wilder and AJ lose in a bad manner I have even more respect for GGG. Yes he officially lost to Canelo and had a tough fight against Derevyanchenko, but he was never dominated. The guy is like a rock. I remember Derev hurting him to the body, but GGG stayed composed. You could see by his face that he was hurt, but he overcame it. Really tough dude.
"Franchise" and "super" champions exist because boxing organisations don't actually control the sport. Canelo vs Charlo is very hard to make because of the television rights and promoters. WBC can't make Canelo fight Charlo, so they adjust to the situation by creating one more belt. All these alphabet organisations just grab money from boxers and give them belts. They don't control the matchmaking, they don't control the sport. They Just make Everything look legit.
Actually, all these world boxing organisations (WBC, wba, wbo, IBF, etc) can't do their job properly. They don't appoint big fights. All the big fights happen when boxers and their promoters want them to happen. WBC and other organisations just make it look like they matter something. Promoters decide everything in professional boxing: they do matchmaking, decide when and where the fight happens. WBC just do what promoters want it to do. So it is a good idea for promoters to have their own belts. UFC looks more like a real sport than professional boxing does, because of real fighter ratings, schedule and competition.
Why stop with Bivol??? Why not say Canelo is ducking Wilder as well???
Because Canelo is a cherry picker. He wants to fight old Kovalev instead of choosing Bivol. He fought Fielding, but he didn't fight Smith. See the pattern?
These PBC fighters are washed and soft yall, they can't even end the pacquiao/mayweather era!!! . Y'all need to chill on Floyd, he made manny put respect on his name. I'm more convinced that if Floyd pulls out of retirement he beats spence easily!!! The only guy that beats PAC or Floyd is canelo.
Canelo is not the only guy that beats Pac or Floyd. There are also Wilder, Fury, Ruiz... Canelo is a middleweight(160). Pac fights at 147. What are you talking about?
Of course he beats him.
It is common sense to use the jab and keep the fight at distance, and control it that way. Less risky.
He has probably slowed down some since then but his fight with Ouma earlier in his career was basically a phone booth fight. Probably my favorite fight of his.
Basically I think he can definitely fight on the inside and there is footage of it, but it is suicidal to make a living on inside fighting. If you stay on the inside too long you are bound to get caught. Have to get in and get out.
Yes, it is better for boxers not to fight at the short distance, but sometimes they have to. In Canelo fight Golovkin lacked this ability.
How did Mr 21-0;5 kos become a mando ????
''Euro titles'' are next door to turds.
Don't believe me, check out Kamil's resume.
Euro champ indeed :lol1:
Edit -
It seems like Andy wasn't a champ after all
Well, I have never seen Szeremeta fight, so I can't say if he is good or not. Boxers' records can be misleading.
Many people tend to call any boxer with unfamiliar name a "bum". That's not right. On the other side, a great name doesn't equal good opponent. Was Kovalev a great name in Canelo fight? Yes, he was. Did he give Canelo a great fight? No, he didn't. Was Jacobs a great name in Golovkin fight? No, he wasn't. Did he give Golovkin a great fight? Yes, he did.
He’s the WBA champion at 160
Though I agree that this franchise designation is not a world championship
I forgot about WBA belt! You are right. By the way, WBA guys are very calm and don't mention any mandatories for Canelo. This whole situation is pathetic. All these organizations just make money. I don't see any reason to have them in the sport. They don't make fights. They just adjust to boxers' will and make money. It would be even better if every promoter had his own belt. Just like in mma.
Says a lot that Kovalev never had the courage to move up to cruiser. Nearly every great tried to move up and win. Enough of this guy.
I think boxers usually move up for 2 reasons. Either they have a money fight in the next division or they can't make weight anymore. By the way, what is so great of moving up in weight and beating Rocky Fielding type of champ?
Don’t feed the casual fans.
That poster said Canelo fought “Championship” fights at 155 being a “natural Middleweight.” These dummies are so confused they’d probably say “Canelo vs Cotto or Khan at the full 160 limit would’ve been more fair!” These guys also don’t know that Angulo, Lara, Kirkland had WAY MORE fights above 155 before Canelo even fought at 155. So what does that mean? That Kirkland, Angulo, Lara were deprived not fighting at 160? People say Kirkland walked around 200lbs and had to lose a lot of muscle mass for his fight with Canelo
Yes, Canelo vs Cotto at 160 would be more fair. How can a boxer call himself a middleweight champion, when he fights at catchweight.
