To sum up what you said “ boxing legends are found in impoverish small towns/cities/ states/countries.
Only the most hungriest boxers will be the most known of all time.
This is true, but being from a third world country and loving to box isn't going to pay for your trainer, diet, and exposure on to the scene. Manny Pacquaio was launched after reaching LA, he would have been fighting Thai journeymen in makeshift arenas in fish markets around Thailand if he never arrived in America.
Inbreeding and the glass jaw.
Actually a lot of them have granite jaws in the amateur ranks, there is a boxer named Adam Azim, 2 time golden glove, 2 time GB champion, 2 time European champion, is ranked number 1 worldwide in the welterweight amateur, he has over 300 fights and is sponsored by MTK global, same brand who is sponsoring Fury. He also defeated David Haney in the amateurs, has called out Mikey Garcia and was pummeling Luke Campbell in a sparring session.
I love how you JUST KNOW they are all packing glass
Like I'm sorry we all know it's true
Not really, his stable is filled with guys running the amateurs and scaring the pros during sparring sessions, for example Muhammad Waseem who is a rising name has never been knocked down yet in over 300 amateur fights nor in any of his pro fights yet, he is ranked 4 in IBF rankings and only lost one fight off of split decision. Then you have Adam Azim who is ranked number 1 in the world in the amateur divisions in the welterweight category. He literally looks like some Pakistani Sugar Ray Robinson and Haggler put together. He has 2 golden gloves, 2 GB world champion, 2 European championships, and also beat Devin Haney in the amateurs, its known Devin is really good. He has also been beating Luke Campbell in sparring sessions too. The guy's brother is just as good as he is. Even people say Tyson Fury has a glass chin which in a way isn't true. There is even a few people who say Muhammad Ali was a bit chinny too
Thanks for the info and course correction!
My marine cousin married a Pakistani girl who converted to Judaism, she is some heart surgeon specialist, and my departed dad, loved her family...
They could eat pastor(sheep/lamb) tacos with habaneros.
My family is equal opportunity...
we just don’t like mormons and 7th day Adventist.
Thanks again for the course correction
Its generally hard to marry Pakistani women, they're always engaged to their cousins, they also can be excessively violent in the UK. I've seen city riots start and towns burned just for interfaith marriages. Its common for them to drive around with Palestinian flags all over the streets. Majority aren't surgeons either as they don't like their women working nor do they like to see to their women making more money. They also tend to drop out of school more than any background and send their 13 year olds off to Pakistan to marry some 35 year old man. Even though many are born in the UK, they still have an accent when they speak the language because there is always one parent from back home. Terrorism and gangs are high in the community and so is drug dealing too in many parts. Even Tommy Robinson highlighted the 1.5 million white British females pimped out by their men and even put into meat grinders too.
Warrens british for 1 desi population tnere is big. Add in muslim market is growing especially in the big $ regions of arabia so makes sense plus aint like that many arabs are boxing. If anything theyre more into kickboxing. So key to break into middle east is outside of big names is to use muslim athletes ppl of similar culture to the market aiming for.
This makes sense in terms of a marketing perspective, but from what I've seen, British Indians are virtually nonexistent in the British boxing scene despite their large population. There is at least 2 boxers of Yemeni origin which are in the ranks with rest being of Pakistani origin but Indians and other Arabs are almost nonexistent, even Naseem Hamed was a Yemeni. As far as I've seen, 98% of Pakistanis live completely different lives and existence from Indians in the UK. The Indians are concentrated mostly in Southall and London. The Pakistanis are all in the most rundown areas where the old mills use to operate at. I've seen most Indians having a negative attitude towards Amir. There is more chances of Amir having white and black fans than Indian, not to mention Indians absolutely no interest in boxing at all and neither do Arab people either with the exception being Yemeni Arabs. The WBC just opened up a middle east branch and made Amir the CEO of the branch. The Arab oil money added with the Pakistani obsession and poverty in Britain with many promoters such as Warren and Hearn signing so many on to the roster means we are bound to see a lot more of them trying to challenge the American dominance of the game more than the Asian Filipinos since Filipinos have talent such as Manny Pacquaio at the lower levels but they have no funding or promoters. The Pakistanis will be funded by the oil rich Arabs and Warren will listen when millions of pounds are there on the line. I wouldn't be surprised if Bob Arum from Top Rank joins this money making train. You should see the Muslim vs Jew marketing that was happening when Amir was fighting Salita from New York in the past. The Middle East is a market for rivalry of fights between the East and West. There is Muslims in parts of Malaysia and Singapore too who will support their own fighters on the worldwide stage. Unfortunately most Arabs are generally not motivated enough for boxing, are more interested in other sports, or their parents have this idea that boxing damages a person's body and is dangerous for them to get involved in it.
Maybe he sees potential and talent....some will go further and progress others well maybe not so much but it is good to see some talent coming out off the Asian community in the boxing ranks for a change, This news Must seem to irritate some people in here given their already cracking jokes about glass jaws and inbreeding
A lot of them in the amateurs have granite jaws, Adam Azim is a 2 time golden glove, 2 time GB champion and European champion, is ranked number 1 in the amateur welterweight division, beat devin haney in amateurs and was beating Luke Campbell in sparring too. Another is Muhammad Waseem who has never been knocked down in 300 fights, Hes already pro and held WBC and is ranked 4 in IBF rankings right now sponsored by MTK global
Oldtimers
Serious question! Funny how people say that UK is one of the best boxing countries, but a lot of that is thanks to the ethnic minorities living there. Why are they over-represented? Is it because they poorer on average? Here are some of them in no particular order:
Anthony Joshua- Nigeria
Lennox Lewis - Jamaica
Amir Khan- Pakistan
Naseem Hamed- Yemen
Kell Brook- Half Jamaican
Kal Yafai- Yemen
Gamal Yafai- Yemen
Kid Galahad- Yemen
Dereck Chisora- Zimbabwe
Chris Eubank- Jamaica
Nigel Benn- Barbados
David Haye- Half Jamaican
Dillian Whyte- Jamaican
Kash Farooq- Born in Pakistan
+ Plus countless others. Surprisingly many talented prospects of pakistani origin for some reason. Also some west africans.
I get what you're saying especially with the Pakistanis, there has been a huge rise in Pakistanis in the top ranks, you have Hamzah Sheeraz as the WBO super welterweight champion, Sahir Iqbal, Mohammad Bilal, and also Muhammad Ali who were all selected to be on Frank Warren's roster, there is at least 300 more in the domestic circuits rising too. I think kid gahalad the yemeni was taking steroids at ingle's gym though
Americans percieve Pakistanis as computer geeks and I.T guys and that's probably true in America. However, the Pakistanis you guys get over there are from middle class and educated backgrounds from Lahore and Karachi so they've always got one foot in the door towards upwards mobility when they reach America. They're almost always quite well off too and mostly come from Urdu speaking families.
In the UK however, they're mostly from poorer backgrounds, usually from villages and small towns from back home; from the Punjab or from Azad Kashmir. They have it a lot tougher and tend to be much tougher and street savvy too (for better or for worse) compared to their softer American raised counterparts.
Here they mostly speak Potwari or Punjabi. If they speak Urdu it's because they've learned it watching TV dramas or because their parents have taught them to pretend to be posh.
We also have a lot of Pashto speaking Pakistanis here too; Pakistanis who have their roots in Afghanistan but settled in the KPK areas (and spread out over the decades and became merchants etc) due to the conflicts in Afghanistan which began in the 1970s.
Americans percieve Pakistanis to be quite soft geeky types but over here nothing could be further from the truth.
America doesn't have many Pakistanis, I think there is just 500,000 in the whole country out of 300 million Americans, the UK has 1.2 million out and yes you're right, they're definitely from the more rougher parts of the UK but also the most segregated parts too, right now Frank Warren signed 6 Pakistanis on to his roster which is a tremendous increase, way more than the Afro Caribbeans too in terms of percent rise.
