He was brave for getting up from those knockdowns knowing he was going to get KTFO. He could have stayed down in the 5th and saved himself what the people paid to see.
Sure, he could have done that. But the backlash would be insane. Even though he had his jaw broken on the last KD, he wasn't unconscious. If he really wanted to, he could have continued. He wouldn't be the first fighter to continue fighting with a broken jaw. That being said, nobody is going to badmouth him for not continuing, either. A broken jaw is a pretty serious injury.
Whatever he does people will complain about, he fought an active world class heavyweight and people are still moaning
Is that really your definition of fighting?
But that's not the case anymore. People were not buying into the Tank fight and his sales have dropped when it's a washed up boxer/MMA guy. Netflix were not going to pay him a lot of money unless it was a real fight or a novelty. His options were limited.
This is it exactly. If he had his way, he would have fought Tank 100% He took the money AND RAN quite literally. He was basically forced into this fight by Netflix. AJ was the only available option that could draw money on short notice.
Yeah, can't hate on Paul at all. He is an absolute lunatic getting in with Joshua :lol1:
Give me $90Million USD, and I'll fight AJ 2morrow. Heck. I'd do it for $5 million USD, and put on a much better show than Paul did.
Then he went down and stayed down on the first 50% power head shot that landed
His legs were gone before that. I think AJ landed a big left hook to the body, and Jake was on ice skates.
You can run, but you can't hide Jake.
I just got off work, so I only started watching 4 rounds in. And all I can say is JP was running for dear life, as I expected. And every time he threw a punch, he was so off balance it looked like he was shooting for a single leg takedown. Haha. I can't give Jake Paul any real credit here. This fight only lasted as long as it did due to his utter refusal to engage. And throwing so hard that he was off balance like that, just shows how much of an amateur he still is. He needs to do something else. Enough of this charade.
I will fight AJ tomorrow for $90 million plus. Let's not act like this is some huge act of bravery. It's a calculated risk. He's clearly worked out the cost of getting knocked clean out is worth the reward.
And that's assuming this fight isn't staged.
When it comes to boxing ability TBud is a shade off from Floyd and Sugar Leonard who ran through MULTIPLE all time greats
Sugar Robinson
Harry
Henry
Sam
Ezzard
Willie
Muhammad
Roberto
Sugar Leonard
Floyd
Joe
Benny Leonard
Pernell
manny
Jimmy
Mickey
Archie
Carlos
Marvin
Barney
Tony
Julio Cesar
Rocky
Larry
Gene
Jack
TBud
That's a fair list. Clearly you're not a casual with names like Greb, Charles, and Langford. (I can't imagine any other "Sam" LOL.)
Well done Budman!
He's retiring on a big win. And apparently he's pretty well off financially with his property investments. And he seems to have all of his faculties about him. Why continue to fight? Hasn't he won like 14 different world titles in 5 weight divisions? And undisputed in 3 different weight divisions. There's not much more he can really do to cement his legacy. At this stage, I think pretty much everyone would have to rate him top 20 all time p4p. Right up there with the likes of Leonard, Robinson, Ali, Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao, etc.
The man has nothing left to prove in boxing. Hat's off to an amazing career.
Yes he could have achieved a lot more his problems were mental and emotional. He was drinking and doing coke and training half ass. If he lived up to his peak he doesn't loose to Douglas and he makes it into the 90s no prison time and look at all the names there were in the 90s to fight and really make a legacy
This is exactly what I was going to say. He never really matured mentally or emotionally throughout his career. He was always having problems inside and outside the ring.
The Cuban gutless wonder doesnt fight like either guy lol
You must be Mexican. And you're also probably a fat slob who's never laced a pair of boxing gloves.
If Lara is so "gutless", why don't you go in there and show him how it's done? You disrespectful peice of trash.
Also, pretty hard to say Lara was running from Canelo........seeing as he outlanded Canelo by 10 punches.
He should have stayed in the pocket more. That I agree with.
I haven't seen it in a while, but I thought 7-5 Lara or 6-6 at worst.
No way Canelo won that fight outright.
Not a robbery, but i thought Lara did enough to win.
Lmao landed a couple more punches all jabs while being doubled up in power shots. Only a 100 punches total. Tell us how many times sugar Ray Leonard did that? I'll give you a hint in how that will play out. Sprinting refusing to fight moving for no damn reason not to set up a damn thing then after 1 minute of running landing a single pot shot jab don't win you fights the pros let alone on the biggest stage.
Keep typing. I'm not reading.
. Running landed single digit pop shot jabs a round while doubled up in power shots don't get you wins in pro fights.
Really? Because most of those shots were body shots, that didn't seem to slow Lara down for one second.
So we'll give Lara the edge in ring generalship, and depending how you score body shots vs. Jabs, is how you would score the clean, effective, punching.
Myself; having actually fought before, I'd much rather absorb a body shot that doesn't slow me down, versus a jab.
Canelo should have cut the ring off better. They knew what they were up against, against Lara.
He got outboxed. Face it; Fanboys.
A draw or 7-5 Lara was fair.
No WAY did Canelo do enough damage with those bodyshots to deserve a 7-5 decision.
It's a very similar fight to SRL/Hagler.
Look; I don't have time to argue over this all day and night. If you believe that Canelo won that fight, fine! I'm not going to disavow you of your opinion. I just happen to disagee.
And once again, I will say; 7-5 Lara or 6-6 were fair scores.
You'd be VERY hard pressed to show me where Canelo DEFINITIVELY won seven rds here.
And PLEASE; Don't speak for me. I am the furthest thing from a Canelo hater. I'll give him his props when he deserves them. Like GGG 2.
This was not one of those fights.
Nope I am NOT Mexican! And definitely not fat. I also don't compare Lara sprinting to sugar Ray Leonard Hagler but that is just me I know boxing and you don't know shyt if you walked away from one of the biggest stinkfest fights ever where Lara fought gutless to all time great fights lol let alone compare Cuban gutless to one of the most popular fan friendly fighters ever.
I mean you can't count how many times Lara has been booed or how many times fans have got up and walked out his fights. Most famously at Barclays where fans showed up for the undercard fights then booed him and walked out. His fight ended with 1/4 of the crowd remaining from when it started and that's not uncommon for his fights because how much he runs and doesn't fight. And on the biggest stage he choked and ran himself out of the fight. That performance will haunt him the rest of his career.
Won't read. You've lost ALL credibilty by referring to a WORLD CLASS boxer as........(get this)........."gutless".
Clenbuterol isn't a steroid tho
Please show me where I said it was.
Please........don't try and debate PEDs with me. I've taken them, and have much more expertise on the subject than you.
Once a cheat always a cheat, Big question is is he being tested for blood doping?
Even if he tests dirty again, GBP will get it swept under the rug. Gotta protect the cadh cow.
It's really not 6-7 weeks. It takes time to get sparring partners together and setup other logistics, unless you expect him to just come for a check and get knocked out..
That's what I would do in his boat. Go for broke in the first four rds. Worst case scenario, he takes a loss and $5 million to the bank.
Deontay around 225lbs is about right. He's extremely fast for a man his size, and that's where a lot of the power comes from.
I think that's why beats Joshua rather easily. While Joshua is very powerful himself, he's not nearly as fast, or eager to engage.
If he were to wait on Wilder, he'd get his ass handed to him. He's a skilled boxer, but I don't see him doing what Fury did to Wilder.
And even Fury was 1 second away from getting ko'd.
Joshua has no chance, and his team knows it as well. Which is why they're jamming up negotiations.
They gotta make sure they get past Andy Ruiz. LOL.
That's not the point, the point is Ruiz does NOTHING to increase his career earning rate, it does nothing for his legacy. It's a terrible business decision unless you're trying to protect your product.
Without Ortiz Wilder does not make $20 mill, Ortiz is an extremely valuable name to have.
I would laugh so hard if Ruiz beat him. Won't happen though. Ruiz is there to do a job.
Ortiz would have came to fight. I think they declined due to drug testing issues.
Still nothing special about Him.
He's certainly no technician, but the guy's power is unreal! Explosive power.
It reminds me of RJJ at LHW. No one else is even close in terms of power at HW.
One thing ill also say is Wilder hasn't fought many guys where there are consequences for missing big punches...with Joshua there will certainly be consequences
He faced exactly that type of fighter in Luis Ortiz though. An awkward southpaw who has dynamite in his left hand.
Joshua has huge power himself, but here's the difference; Deontay is MUCH faster and explosive. I just don't see him timing a picture perfect counter as Deontay marches in.
For Joshua to win, he's going to have to move like crazy. Just like Fury did. And he is simply not that kind of fighter.
If Deontay can back him up early, he's going to get touched. And I really don't think he wants to EXCHANGE with Wilder.
If he can box effectively for 12 rds off his back foot, he might be able to pull it off. But we've never seen that from Joshua before, now have we?
Nobody is jealous. We just don't want you to end up punch drunk like so many other boxers seeking that one last pay day.
Khan has earned easily $30 million USD throughout his career. How much money does a guy need?
Has he not seen the likes of Meldrick Taylor, Jermain Taylor, Evander Holyfield, etc.?
Give it up while there's still time left!
