While mac did look better than almost all of us thought and put up a good effort I thought floyd kinda carried him through the fight. He threw 6 punches in round one and a combined 28 punches through the first 3 rounds. Mac did win those rounds and did land some good jabs and a nice uppercut(even thought floyd walked right through it)but it was mostly due to activity he wasnt really touching floyd that much. Then from 4 On floyd started letting his hands go and pretty much won every round after. Also floyd pressed the action pretty much the whole fight long which he never ever does which means to me he never felt threatened by mcgregor at all. Now my question to you is what happened to mcgregors power? He landed a couple good shots including an uppercut and floyd didnt even flinch.
Hmm lot to address there. There is a video on youtube of "macgreggors best moments" in the fight. He for sure landed some great shots and some very slick slips and things like that. Floyd was on another level though. I'm not here to convince you guys that Conor won rounds and blah blah blah. Cause that doesn't really matter since he got stopped. He represented MMA very well and proved that he can hang with the elite of boxing and be somewhat competitive even if its only for a few rounds. And since he lost, we'll take it.
As far as Conors power goes. He never really got the opportunity to really let loose and swing a big shot on Floyd. And thats a compliment to Floyds defense, The shots he landed were short fast shots cause floyds too good at slipping, macgreggor realised this early on and so he conserved energy and only took pot shots at floyd in an effort to land stuff instead of firing power shots he knew he would miss at that point in the fight and gas even faster.
How often do MMA fighters get erections? Does the ref stop the action or does he allow them continue grappling?
Same question goes for the men.
All the time. MMA is just an excuse for muscular people to **** each other in gay dominance displays on national TV and PPV and get paid to do it.
How come Conor claims to have power but in reality he's a pillow puncher?
Thats how he chose to box Floyd. I think he knew throwing big power shots would make him gas even faster so he was probably trying to time floyd with shorter shots to open floyd up to countering but floyd never countered until he was already tired.
It was stratagy for sure. If you don't believe he has KO power Fly to dublin and let him hit you.
He puts guys in the UFC out from all kinds of angles.
If it makes you feel better about your sport though then by all means pretend he can't knock people out. I'll be over here pretending Floyd was scared and we would both be idiots.
How is Brendan Schaub viewed in the MMA community? And did his d*ck riding leading up to this fight change opinions
I like him. I think he's funny and entertaining. Do I agree with everything he's ever said... No infact I quite often disagree. But that's fine.
He has earned the right to his opinion on fighting.
When he was active there were only probably 30 guys on the entire planet in any sport or just in general who could possibly beat him in a fight so hes got more clout than most, and no none of them are boxers.
AJ would get it, so would parker or who ever else there is HW boxing wise.
Ok, I'll rephrase. By boxing standards Conor is a pillow puncher with no power
Come on man,
"I'm gonna knock Floyd unconcious within 4 rounds, I'll knock him out in 2 rounds, I'll knock him out in 10 seconds!!"
"With 8 oz gloves I don't see Floyd making it past 1 round!"
"Floyd can't handle my power, he's too small, too old, too frail!!!"
And you're telling me Conor changed his strategy to be a pillow puncher after all that?
Wouldn't the best way to ensure you won't gas be to throw your hardest punches to knock out your opponent early?
It sounds like you're saying he chose to pace himself to try to win a decision against Mayweather, and ended up gassing anyway?
It was a leading question for sure but you still made me laugh :)
I'm telling you dude. I've seen every single Conor fight. He has never and I mean NEVER started that slow or conservative.
He is used to being the fastest and most accurate and powerful guy in the octagon. So he just goes in and destroys guys with his boxing. Its literally what he made his name one was knocking guys the **** out and predicting when he was gonna do it.
He knew he wasn't going to be able to just tee off on Floyd, He's very smart and all that **** talk about knocking floyd out was to get in floyds head, Conor plays the mind games hard, REAL hard, like as hard as Ali did.
I' highly doubt his stratagy was ever to just go in there and tee of on Floyd with haymakers from the first bell...
Come on man you just fell for his sell
Which I been meaning to axe, what exactly is a fvcking sherdog, I know its their site, but what is a sherdog?
Its a dudes last name I think.
and to reply to the guy up top, I don't think sherdog is bigger than the UG... In MMA the UG is by far the most famous forum. Famous fighters used to post on there and so did rogan and some other notables.
If Sherdog is bigger is a big surprise to me and most of MMA.
Could be right though I don't know **** about sherdog.
I kinda see what you're saying but i dont entirely agree. Theres been certain styles that have worked atleast for a while vs floyd just that once he adjusts the others werent able to adjust back. You need plan a b c and d vs floyd. Jose luis castillo was able to have some success as was judah and oscar and cotto and maidana. Some either gassed and werent able to keep doing what they wanted or had just a plan a and once he adjusted to them they didnt have no answer.
I would say Conor has a plan A and MAYBE a plan B.
He will be banking on his power and precision to make plan A or B get him the KO.
Believe me NO ONE thinks Conor can outbox Floyd including Conor...
He isn't going to try to outbox Floyd. He is just going to try to knock him out cold.
If that doesn't work then he has nothing for Floyd tactically
So Jon Jones? What about Silva?
Anderson Silva is the closest thing to the characters Bruce Lee played in movies in real life.
Extremely dominant run. And was a god in the cage. He fought like he was in the matrix
Truely beautiful to watch.
Jon Jones is better than him.
We have no interest in your hideous, ugly-ass fad of a sport.
If you want to connect with us, please take McGregor, Dana White and all your idiotic experts and fans away from us.
Go and create myths and distorted tales from pictures that Conor's 24/7 photographer posts online.
Cos we ain't buying your premier salesman's sh*t.
I understand your frustration. It must be pretty annoying to have Conor watz into your sport and without a single fight and zero respect for it as an institution and score the biggest fight in the history of your sport against one of your GOATS.
McGregor Vs Khabib...who you got man?
Khabib is an undefeated monster wrestler with an unlimited gas tank and an extremely high pace relentless beating style.
No one has beaten him in the ufc and for good reason. once he gets you down to the mat you are ****ed and thats that.
No one can survive his top preasure.
How ever he has been rocked standing before and his boxing leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to stand infront of Conor for anything more than a few seconds without having high level boxing (for MMA) you're going to sleep asap and thats no joke.
I could see Conor knocking him out in the first round. i could also see Conor getting taken down and having to defend the ground onslaught then get back up and knock him out.
I can also see Khabib take hyim down and finish him. all of this is possible but I'd have Conor in that fight.
It's a the enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of deal.
We wanna see Floyd get sparked out, but not by a ****stain who disrespects boxing the way Mcgregor does.
Fair enough
... Except that Nate Diaz fights at 155lbs if given an actual camp to prepare
Correct Nate diaz is a 155 lber. Conor is a 145lber who wants to make 155 his new home.
Nate has fought at 170 before but mostly at 155.
Both guys cut extreme amounts of weight to make their weight classes.
Nate is the bigger guy though. He is big for 155 and Conor is small for 155.
Conor can't hit 170 holding 4 bricks. nate walks around at 180 ish off season.
Do yoy know anything about boxing? In your opinion how do you see the fight playing out? I see Floyd easily beating him and toying with him. Im on the fence of 12 rounds to 0 floyd decision or floyd by mid rounds tko. To most of us the winner is gonna be no doubt mayweather and pretty easily to be honest, but the only thing is does conor make it all 12 rounds thats the real question.
You could be right. A lot of MMA fans watch boxing as well but more as a side thing for us like some of us watch BJJ tournaments aswell and Muay Thai so no we don't know boxing as well as you guys do.
As I've stated I'm a bit on the fence about it because I've seen Conor do things in our sport that no one could have fathomed before him. So its hard to write him off from our perspective because everytime we do he proives us wrong.
However gun to my head? Mayweather of course. the man is the greatest defensive boxer of all time and this a boxing match.
CAN Conor win? I hope so and I will be rooting for him. But obviously this is an insanely hard task for him.
WILL he? almost definitely not and its hard for me to admit that.
Why are MMA fans obsessed with street fights? MMA is a sport, with rules, just like boxing.
MMA is the closest thing to real fighting that a person can watch.
MMA originally didn't actually have any rules, In brazil they call this Vale Tudo and it means "anything goes" obviously without weapons.
I don't speak for all MMA fans but i think we are trying to reach what we deem to be the closest thing to a "real" fight thats possible at a high level.
Make no mistake the best MMA fighters on the planet are the best "real" fighters on the planet because they are forced to excel in an environment where almost any technique can be used against them and they can use almost any technique in return.
I think i answerd your question? please let me know if I didn't
It's going to be lunge in, miss completely totally off balance, get countered with straight rights and left hooks all night long. :boxing:
You are probably right. A man can dream though.
Come on... I know you guys all hate Floyd.... Don't you wanna see him get sparked out?
Who is the best of all time?
In MMA? or Boxing?
For Boxing id have to go with Sugar Ray Robinson
In MMA there are 3 guys in that conversation.
George St Pierre
Anderson Silva
Jon "Bones" Jones
Up until recently I was an Anderson Silva guy.
But after last weekend its pretty sae to say Jon Jones is the greatest we have ever seen.
Only issue is that Conor it's very unlikely to ever land clean on Floyd, especially after Floyd spending the last 20 years of his life getting sublimely comfortable with ever inch of a boxing ring against world-level comp.
If Conor isn't going to be able to dirty box and work in the clinch, he's down to a prayer, and even less than that if Paulie's assessment of his punching power is right
You are correct. However there are a few X factors to consider.
If Floyd has proven anything over the years its that fighting him like a high level boxer doesn't work.
Conor isn't going to do that. Conor has developed a very unorthadox and extremely effective style of boxing that works for MMA. It uses a much longer range and borrows A LOT form karate point fighting.
Floyd is also older now and fighters do tend to get old over night (see roy jones) i'm not saying thats the case here but if it is thats a problem for floyd.
If you are expecting Conor to plod forward like canello did against floyd your are sorely mistaken. he will have a long sidways stance and he will be lunging in and out with blitzes. whether it works or not remains to be seen.
Wtf happened to kickboxing? I used to love watching kickboxing myself back in the day. Now you can barely find it on TV & its a rarity.
Did they market kickboxing badly or was kicking just too gay of a way to fight for lotsa dudes to get behind (pun intended) who think punching is the only way for hetro-males to fight?
I think MMA killed it to be honest. All the best kickboxing talent went into MMA and started wrecking house with their surperior striking so I think for the most part MMA is kickboxings permanent home now.
God do I miss the days of K-1 though. that was some insane ****.
Most of the legends from K-1 tansitiond to MMA and became champs though so MMA is where kickboxers do their best work these days i'd say.
How do you rate conors defense? I only saw like a minute of the 2nd round vs nate and he was getting tagged alot by nate who has slow hands compared to Floyd.
Conor has been known to get tagged.
Its part of his style though. He likes to let guys hit him as a way of getting into range and then smashes them.
Aldo connected with the hook he threw on Conor..... Didn't go so wel for him though.
In boxing how ever I hope he will use better defense than he does in MMA. But who knows what he will do.
We boxing fans believe Conor will catch Floyd with an uppercut and KO him, and after that our sport will be dead. How likely is that scenario to you?
Hahahaha. Are you some kind of cartoonish version of an MMA fan?
Yes some of us believe Conor can beat Mayweather.
Many more than that think Conor is ****ed
I'm on the fence. While I don't think Conor has ZERO chance to even land 1 shot on mayweather I'm also not stupid and realise that this is boxing and Conor has an insanely unlikely task infront of him to beat on of the greatest defensive boxers of all time.
Conor has a knack for pulling of miracles though so I honestly wouldn't be that surprised if somehow he pulls this off.
Mystic Mac is no joke the guy has a crystal ball somewhere in his ****ing house honestly
What got you into mma and is it better/more competitive than boxing?
Also whos alt are you?
Well...... I trained Kickboxing for about 10 years in my teen years and attended a few K-1 events and fell in love with kickboxing.
Unfortunatly kickboxing has kind of gone by the wayside as a sport now days so i fell out of love with it but then out of nowhere I saw Jon Jones beat the living **** out of some dude and win the title in the ufc and I was hooked because it had kickboxing mixed with all this other **** I didnt know about and i found it facinating.
As a boxing fan first, MMA fan second I tell my brothers & sissies here this all the time, but no one gets this cuz they are so mad about the UFC & MMA in general taking some of boxings attention or whatever.
So many boxing fans hate MMA & they project that all MMA guys must hate boxing without grasping boxing is happening in MMA, just not exactly the boxing they are used to cuz boxing is only an element of MMA.
Haha yea. Boxing and MMA are rivals so there is bound to be some **** talking from both sides.
At the end of the day though its all good.
We love boxing and respect it a lot. its extremely effective and will always have a home in MMA
How did you see nate vs conor 2 and how would you see nate vs conor 3 if it happened?
Ahh yes the notorious Rivaly of Diaz and MAcgreggor.
To this day still a huge point of contention amongst MMA fans.
you will hear people say things like "nate outboxed conor in the first fight"
Don't believe this rubbish its propaganda by Diaz fans.
Conor was landing at will and slipping everything nate threw and making him pay. It was an insanely dominant first round for macgreggor. But the Diaz Bros are known for having chins like bank vaults. Conor was banking on his power to crack his chin but it wasn't quite enough.
He gassed out and got choked. Nate did not I REPEAT did NOT outbox Conor in any way in either fight and to claim that is laughable. Conor put on a masterful striking clinic both times.
But Diaz is a terminator and you just can't put him away.
I had Conor in the second fight for sure. close fight. one of the best in mma history.
Conor takes him out in the 3rd fight because it will be at 155lbs instead of 170lb
In your opinion, how highly do you rate Conor's grappling/wrestling in MMA?
Fan of combat sports in general (was definitely Team PrideFC/Strikeforce while the UFC let the wrestlers lay-and-pray), but the talk is worth having.
Great question.
Conors strong suit in MMA is and always will be his boxing (I realize the irony of me saying this here)
and because of this it has raised a hell of a lot of sceptics in MMA about how he can do on the ground because he wins all his fights with boxing.
this led to a lot of MMA fans saying that as soon as he faces a wrestler hes toast due to having no ground game.
How ever he has fought wrestlers now and he has defeated them all easily.
He has fantastic take down defense and once he gets on the ground he is no bum. He has great BJJ and sub defense plus pretty high level wrestling. hes not at the level of the best guys on the ground but he can hang with them and doesn't get destroyd.
But make no mistake his bread and butter is Knocking people out with his straight left
Yeah i get all that. I respect the sport. I just don't like the fans. Yall always talking about what would happen in a street fight and talking **** about boxers not being real fighters. That's disrespectful and dumb.
We respect the **** out of boxing.
Boxing is probably the most important martial art in MMA.
If you don't know how to box in MMA you are ****ed because guys you do will light you up like a christmas tree.
MMA is a young sport and because of this we get a lot of **** for being "fad" or what ever and so we can get very defensive of our sport which leads to MMA fans talking a lot of **** about other sports.
Boxing is on the top of that list because boxing was up until recently the king of combat sports.
Its just competition. Boxers are real fighters they just don't know ground fighting or kickboxing which puts them at a huge disadvantage in an MMA fight.
But believe me no MMA fan with a brain thinks boxing is bull****. We respect the sweet science a lot and the biggest respect we give it is that our fighters use it.
