Hi there, I'm a huge MMA fan from the Underground MMA forum.
I thought it could be interesting to come over here and discuss the Maygreggor fight with yall since it seems to have both of our respective sports by the balls right now.
If there is anything you want to know about how the MMA fanbase views this fight or about Conor or anything in general about MMA, I'll be happy to answer.
Obviously you guys are gonna be more knowledgeable about boxing and I'm gonna know more about MMA but since this fight involves both of us I thought why have the conversation about it in our respective vacuums?
So Jon Jones? What about Silva?
Anderson Silva is the closest thing to the characters Bruce Lee played in movies in real life.
Extremely dominant run. And was a god in the cage. He fought like he was in the matrix
Truely beautiful to watch.
Jon Jones is better than him.
I would say Conor has a plan A and MAYBE a plan B.
He will be banking on his power and precision to make plan A or B get him the KO.
Believe me NO ONE thinks Conor can outbox Floyd including Conor...
He isn't going to try to outbox Floyd. He is just going to try to knock him out cold.
If that doesn't work then he has nothing for Floyd tactically
Whats your take on CMPunk?
In MMA? or Boxing?
For Boxing id have to go with Sugar Ray Robinson
In MMA there are 3 guys in that conversation.
George St Pierre
Anderson Silva
Jon "Bones" Jones
Up until recently I was an Anderson Silva guy.
But after last weekend its pretty sae to say Jon Jones is the greatest we have ever seen.
So Jon Jones? What about Silva?
I kinda see what you're saying but i dont entirely agree. Theres been certain styles that have worked atleast for a while vs floyd just that once he adjusts the others werent able to adjust back. You need plan a b c and d vs floyd. Jose luis castillo was able to have some success as was judah and oscar and cotto and maidana. Some either gassed and werent able to keep doing what they wanted or had just a plan a and once he adjusted to them they didnt have no answer.

You are correct. However there are a few X factors to consider.
If Floyd has proven anything over the years its that fighting him like a high level boxer doesn't work.
Conor isn't going to do that. Conor has developed a very unorthadox and extremely effective style of boxing that works for MMA. It uses a much longer range and borrows A LOT form karate point fighting.
Floyd is also older now and fighters do tend to get old over night (see roy jones) i'm not saying thats the case here but if it is thats a problem for floyd.
If you are expecting Conor to plod forward like canello did against floyd your are sorely mistaken. he will have a long sidways stance and he will be lunging in and out with blitzes. whether it works or not remains to be seen.

How do you rate conors defense? I only saw like a minute of the 2nd round vs nate and he was getting tagged alot by nate who has slow hands compared to Floyd.
Conor has been known to get tagged.
Its part of his style though. He likes to let guys hit him as a way of getting into range and then smashes them.
Aldo connected with the hook he threw on Conor..... Didn't go so wel for him though.
In boxing how ever I hope he will use better defense than he does in MMA. But who knows what he will do.
It's a the enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of deal.
We wanna see Floyd get sparked out, but not by a ****stain who disrespects boxing the way Mcgregor does.
Fair enough
Who is the best of all time?

You are probably right. A man can dream though.
Come on... I know you guys all hate Floyd.... Don't you wanna see him get sparked out?

It's going to be lunge in, miss completely totally off balance, get countered with straight rights and left hooks all night long. :boxing:

... Except that Nate Diaz fights at 155lbs if given an actual camp to prepare
Correct Nate diaz is a 155 lber. Conor is a 145lber who wants to make 155 his new home.
Nate has fought at 170 before but mostly at 155.
Both guys cut extreme amounts of weight to make their weight classes.
Nate is the bigger guy though. He is big for 155 and Conor is small for 155.
Conor can't hit 170 holding 4 bricks. nate walks around at 180 ish off season.

Ahh yes the notorious Rivaly of Diaz and MAcgreggor.
To this day still a huge point of contention amongst MMA fans.
you will hear people say things like "nate outboxed conor in the first fight"
Don't believe this rubbish its propaganda by Diaz fans.
Conor was landing at will and slipping everything nate threw and making him pay. It was an insanely dominant first round for macgreggor. But the Diaz Bros are known for having chins like bank vaults. Conor was banking on his power to crack his chin but it wasn't quite enough.
He gassed out and got choked. Nate did not I REPEAT did NOT outbox Conor in any way in either fight and to claim that is laughable. Conor put on a masterful striking clinic both times.
But Diaz is a terminator and you just can't put him away.
I had Conor in the second fight for sure. close fight. one of the best in mma history.
Conor takes him out in the 3rd fight because it will be at 155lbs instead of 170lb
How do you rate conors defense? I only saw like a minute of the 2nd round vs nate and he was getting tagged alot by nate who has slow hands compared to Floyd.
Only issue is that Conor it's very unlikely to ever land clean on Floyd, especially after Floyd spending the last 20 years of his life getting sublimely comfortable with ever inch of a boxing ring against world-level comp.
If Conor isn't going to be able to dirty box and work in the clinch, he's down to a prayer, and even less than that if Paulie's assessment of his punching power is right

In your opinion, how highly do you rate Conor's grappling/wrestling in MMA?
Fan of combat sports in general (was definitely Team PrideFC/Strikeforce while the UFC let the wrestlers lay-and-pray), but the talk is worth having.
Nick Diaz submitted him, he's a bb in bjj while iirc mcpenis is a brown. Both Diaz brothers have superior ground skills vs many opponents
Great question.
Conors strong suit in MMA is and always will be his boxing (I realize the irony of me saying this here)
and because of this it has raised a hell of a lot of sceptics in MMA about how he can do on the ground because he wins all his fights with boxing.
this led to a lot of MMA fans saying that as soon as he faces a wrestler hes toast due to having no ground game.
How ever he has fought wrestlers now and he has defeated them all easily.
He has fantastic take down defense and once he gets on the ground he is no bum. He has great BJJ and sub defense plus pretty high level wrestling. hes not at the level of the best guys on the ground but he can hang with them and doesn't get destroyd.
But make no mistake his bread and butter is Knocking people out with his straight left
