Its a tough call to make and I would have to say no!
I think DLH may be the best fighter that Floyd has ever faced.
When you consider Whitiker, Mosley, Tito, JCC, Hopkins, Bazooka. These are all top fighters. Elite fighters.
This is interesting.
I know that many of the guys (and girls) here who have stepped into the pro ring can agree that sometimes its more wise to wear the "pity pat" shots than to move from them. I figured it was good coaching on Freddys part to make sure that De La Hoya only moved when was needed. It takes up too much enegry and puts you in too much of an un stable position if you are constantly un balanced from slipping and moving. I think Oscar did the right thing and wore the baby shots. He landed some great flurries and great shots of his own and seemed to damage Floyd more than the other way around. He semed more in control most of the time too. Maybe I got it wrong too. I also scored the fight 115-113 De La Hoya.
It depends on their management. Many times it creates instant stardom and a new better paid contract. It also creates more of a following or a more passionate group of fans. It also makes the fighter a target. No more hunting fights as people will be coming to the fighter for a shot.
Money wise its all about being marketable and recognisable.
The belts are not instant either. Most of the time the belt you hold in the ring is used for the promotion and the new belt will be sent out to you after being made.
Best of all, all the money on offer could not replace being able to tell your grand kids "I was Champion of the World". That is the most recognised title in sports. You could be watching baseball with your NASCAR mates and someone could ask "who is champ of the world?" Automatically most people forget other sports and think boxing!
Sorry mate. In regards to the actual organisations like the WBC, IBF ect.
They dont give out anything if thats what you were meaning. They are in the game to make money, not spend it. The only perks they could give would be ithy courruption and setting fights.
Hope I got it right this time.
Personally, I think the fight Mundine needs to win first- it the one with himself!
This cat has all the pure talent in the world. Speed, stamina, power and as shown is his last fight with Sammy... Mundine has the ability to adapt well and fight a chess fight. Mundine is the Man!
He could take a win against them all. Why not? I have faith in anyone who steps through the ropes. However, against Taylor or Winky would be a different kettle of pirana's to his previous bouts but not impossible to overcome. Infact, I think either would be an interestng fight.
All this would be fine and dandy but who would buy it? He will have to establish himself in a lower division first because he is not yet the drawcard internationally. From what I have seen more fans want to see him lose and thats whey most buy gate tickets or order the event on TV! If he changed his mentality where he thinks everyone hates him and has done him wrong, then people might start supporting him more!
Personally, I think Calzage has a few fights in his own weight that could cause more interest. Mundine would be a good match with the UK, Australia and Oceania Fans and Critics. It could also be a good way for Mundine to see how good he is.
There are many other fights for Joe without having to search other divisions.
Taylor, has fights to come where he is too.
Someoine wrote about the Supermiddle being a dead division but to many folk it was only a few years back when the middelweights were also a dead divsion with very few exceptions. Who knows, the division may grow with added publicity.
I do and dont like HOLLYWOOD match ups. And if Calzage was to fight Taylor then that would be HOLLYWOOD matching.
In all honesty, I am not interested in them fighting.
