People's actions spring from their worldviews (or are restrained by them). To seek to sidestep the connection between the atheistic philosophies of Hitler and Stalin and their ghastly actions is, I believe, unsupportable. The argument is not invalid. In fact, as everyone knows, when Stalin's brand of communism was forced upon the multiplied millions he tyrannized, atheism was compulsory at the risk of death or the gulag. Many fighters give thanks to god saying he/she/it gave him the strength to win, some of them talk about if "it's in god's plans" this and that. Do you guys believe in mixing God with boxing? Personally I don't think God gives anybody the strength to beat somebody up period. What do you guys think? I (a Christian) think that the mention of God by an athlete should be handled with wisdom and discretion -- and too often it isn't. The Bible says that "every good gift comes from the Father" (James 1:17) -- so yes, God gives fighters their strength ultimately -- BOTH of them. LOL But I don't like it when an athlete seems to use God as hardly more than a good luck charm! Make sense?
