It’s hilarious that you would comment critically on Loma’s movement. He has the best footwork in boxing history according to every expert commentator who’s been asked. And there’s the small matter of him knocking Linares TFO with a body shot. Had the ref let Linares continue, Linares would have been badly hurt, cut up on both eyes and knocked out by the middle of the next round assuming he survived the remainder of the 10th. I didn’t see Linares protesting the stoppage while he sat on his stool for five minutes trying to recover from that liver shot Lomachenko put on him. It’s stupid to second guess a guy that knocked out a 4 time world champion who outweighed him by 15 pounds, had a 3 inch reach advantage and speed and power in both hands. Loma had to figure Linares out on the fly, then dissect him — which is precisely what he did: getting inside Linares’ reach, freezing him in place by stepping on his feet and landing in combination.
Just because Linares didn’t knock Lomachenko out with that right hand doesn’t mean Linares can’t punch just as hard as Garcia. Lomachenko is in almost superhuman condition and has a rock solid chin. Can he be knocked out? Sure, anyone can be. But at 135 it would take an accumulation of punches that Lomachenko is not likely to sit still and absorb. He’s far too smart and quick for Garcia to sustain any kind of effective attack, and Garcia lacks his lateral movement and speed.
