Good riddance Pacman. It was a hell of a ride. Your KO of Ricky Hatton was your career's pinnacle, and I will see you at Canastota for your HOF speech.
Now please, stay retired and serve the people as you say you will.
amazing delusion
It amazes me how polarizing a figure Mayweather can be, but it pales in comparison to the sea of delusional Pacquiao fans who are so biased they can't see that their hero has not faced anyone as mobile and as adaptive as FMJ before.
When JMM put Manny to sleep, what was your excuse? A lucky punch? When FMJ gave the same JMM a boxing lesson for the ages, what was your excuse?
I feel it will be a challenge for both, but ultimately Pacquiao cannot adapt in the ring like FMJ can and that will be the deciding factor in the fight, imo. I don't see a KO or TKO unless it happens early or very late. I do see an easy unanimous decision for FMJ.
"At Last" was a very well produced show. Two thumbs way up.
One criticism I have is that FMJ is nowhere present. There are clips of him from the past, etc, but he wasn't part of this production, so it felt a bit incomplete, like telling the story through only one angle.
Not sure if anyone caught it but Roach and MP seems to contradict each other regarding the random blood sample testing by USADA, where Roach implies that it is a legitimate excuse as this impacts MP more than the average guy, but then MP states that it was "never about the blood tests", that the "other side" always made up excuses, etc. Ok then.
I've never seen FMJ so focused for a fight, never. I've never seen him so quiet before a fight. I think we're going to get a prime and focused FMJ for this one folks and MP is also looking good. Can't wait for the fight!
What the Klitschko brothers have done has never been done before in any weight division in boxing. By the way, do yourself a favor and watch HBO's documentary "Klitschko"; mad respect!
Wladimir will be inducted into Canastota, NY and will be remembered as one of the most dominating heavyweights of his time. He will be a GOAT when all is said and done.
JCC Jr never needed boxing, never respected boxing, and tried to "play" boxing. You don't PLAY boxing like baseball or soccer. You FIGHT in boxing.
JCC Jr never had the mental discipline to do what champs do to get to the elite level. JCC Jr is a chump who has surfed the wave of his father's name for far too long.
Did you guys see how out of shape and out of focus he looked? CHUMP! Go home and smoke some more pot.
"Alarmed by the truth" that "gays are worse than animals".....SMH. Someone shut this guy up for his own good
100%
If he keeps on talking HBO might just drop the fight!!!
Seriously Manny, get a real PR adviser other than Buboy or Koncz!
Oh please Eddie, there is no conundrum here, it's very simple actually- a mandatory is a mandatory and Brook needs to honor it to still be considered IBF World Champion.
I hope the IBF doesn't bend here and strips Brook if he decides to fight Khan instead of Spence. A true champ will fight the mandatory no matter what, UNLESS it's a unification fight, which the Khan fight is definitely NOT.
A rule across the board for all boxing organizations should state that catch-weight fights are not permitted for TITLE fights. Of course, common sense in boxing doesn't mean *****.
Cotto has 2-3 fights left. None of which will be GGG. Canelo would be his last. In the interim, more of these CW BS fights.
Why?
This is yet another proof that Ward will be making the jump to Light Heavy earlier that people anticipated. There's nothing for him at 168.
If you didn't watch the Lamps show on HBO when Ward got interviewed, he stated that he had one more fight in him at 168 before jumping...I just never thought it would have been with Pavlik; what a mismatch.
I believe Linares will give Lomachenko a much tougher fight than people think. He's bigger with great speed and outstanding combinations, has great footwork and has been facing elite opposition for years now. The one weakness he has is his face cuts easily. It used to be that he faded, but since he changed trainers and diet 6 years ago that hasn't been the case (amazing what that does to a boxer).
This has a potential to be a FOY candidate.
Make Jermall vs Rob Brant. That'll be good.
Always thought Murata was a hyped job. Nothing against "Bravo" and his recent victory, but title will be short lived. Either of the Charlos will beat him, hands down.
Ummm, wow...first, neither Mayweather Jr or Pacquiao will ever be remembered as GOATs...sorry. They're HOF material, no doubt, but not GOATs.
Mayweather's fight with Berto as is last hurrah was an insult to everyone. Manny decided to fight Bradley for his last hurrah for the 3rd freaking time...really? LOL
FMWJ and MP both ducked each other for years, and when they finally got it on both were not at their peaks. Bad examples man.
Manny made a career out of fighting at catchweight, Floyd enforced a catchweight on Canelo and then went 2 years not defending that belt at 154 instead defended it at 147. Both Manny and Floyd went 5 years "ducking" each other. Yet neither guy's legacy was effected, neither fighter lost fans over it and both are rich beyond belief. When you get to this level it ain't about belts. And to make fights at this level you have to give in to the bigger star not come in making demands to the bigger star. Cotto threw this same belt in the trash and didn't lose a single fan, laughing at you thinking Canelo will.
donaire vs. marquez at 135. who takes it?
donaire rehydrates to that weight pretty easy and marquez i think can still make 135
You serious? Donaire. Easy. JMM is no longer a 135 lbs fighter, and Donaire is a beast at that weight, much faster than MP. Wake up people! Nonito Donaire has been the best boxer from the Philippines since 2011.
If his "My only mistake is comparing gay people to animals" apology is not enough, and Nike drops Pacquiao, then it is truly the beginning of the end for him.
Pacquiao's biggest fear is not to be liked by everyone. He absolutely loves to be loved. I can't imagine how he will handle not being liked. This is why he's been in total damage control/panic mode today, apologizing 4 times for the things he said. Horrible PR here.
It's amazing to think not one person told him that his "Sometimes When We Touch" music video is the poster child for bad karaoke, that his acting in "Wapakman" was absolutely horrendous....but then everybody loves Pacquiao, right? Well, apparently not everybody.
I know I'm supposed to appreciate the "skill" but I'm sorry, Bradley fights bore me to tears. If I never watch another fight involving Bradley or Alexander I will be perfectly happy.
This!
The Alexander vs Bailey fight was the most boring fight of the year; Devon just did not want to exchange. And Timmy....well, Dessert Storm is just as boring to watch.
This thread is funny
To Mayweather- Fight already! You can only be the best if you fight at least once a year. This is getting boring and you're not getting any younger. If not PAC, fight Canelo, Martinez, or someone on that level, now.
To Pac fans- The Bradley fight was imho a bad decision as I thought he did win, but blame PAC for taking his foot off the gas halfway through the fight; why? No killer instinct. He has said that in the JMM fight he needs to have a KO to prove that he's still the best. You wouldn't say those things unless you knew people noticed your last two lackluster performances and started to question you.
Don't see this fight happening in 2013; should have happened in 2009/2010 and it would have been an instant classic. Not so much now.
Who cares? Still plenty of great boxing out there.
So blatantly obvious. By Canelo dropping the WBC belt he won't be fighting GGG this September. GGG will be fighting for it vs Daniel Jacobs. Good riddance Canelo. You are a sham. Why did you not allow HBO to weigh you pre-fight vs Khan? Simple. You were above 180, something you claimed to never do in HBO's "Face Off".
The thing is, people in boxing, specifically those of us who establish legacies, we remember the duckers. This is why at the end of the day "Canelo-weight" will be remembered more than what this guy did inside the ropes.
Oh Froch...you fight like once a year, if that, and are becoming less and less relevant in this sport, even within your division. For months you begged Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (of all freaking people!!) to fight you. Really? Of course, you want no part of a rematch against Andre Ward, that's clear. I mean, even with his surgically repaired shoulder he would again wipe the floor with you.
Froch, you are and and always were too slow for Joe Calzaghe's "slap" and ring generalship. Maybe now that Calzaghe is 43 you can give him a good fight. Maybe.
Move on with your life and retire already. While you're at it, tell your manager to stop teasing the boxing world because you know that you will never fight Golovkin despite what anyone says.
Really? This is the same 41 year old Michael "Cold Blood" Clark whose claim to fame is fighting Vivian Harris in 2002 (UD L), losing a 5 RD fight to "K9" Bundrage in "The Contender" in 2006 (MD L), and hurting his hand in RD 1 against Mike "Mile High" Alvarado in 2007 (TKO L).
Since 2012, Clark has lost 5 out of his last 7 fights, including his last 3 in a row, all by stoppage (KO in 1, KO in 1, and TKO in 5). The last time this guy hurt an opponent was in 2009 (TKO W) when he stopped a part-time boxer named Chris Overbey.
"Cold Blood" Clark is clearly washed up, and it shouldn't cause any problems for Dusty, and that's precisely the point of my rant; while young boxers within the same division keep on taking better opposition, i.e. Mikael Zewski, Dusty hasn't faced anyone yet. That can lead to the development of bad habits. Bad habits are hard to remove, especially in boxing. Just my 2 cents.
Speculation will run like fire in dry grass as to who replaces "Clenelo".
I have a funny feeling that Charlo has stayed quiet because he already had a silent agreement to replace him...if that's the case it's a better fight! If it's O'Sullivan, meh.
Lara deserves a title shot
I respect Martirosyan a lot, but Lara will probably beat him easy by way of scorecards.
Lara deserves a title shot. He had two fights in a row where unfortunate decisions happen (draw with Molina and the highway robbery loss to Williams). He is a real threat to any title holder so I hope this fight gets done and Lara gets a shot at a title.
You know, it's funny, but my phone has been blowing up all weekend with "boxing experts" who think they know boxing but have no idea. They're all complaining about May-Pac and call him a coward, running all night, this is no Sugar Ray Leonard, stuff like that.
My response: "Is this the first time you watch Mayweather fight?"
I mean, what were people expecting? Even "boxing experts" like Lennox Lewis (by the way, just because you boxed and became a world champion doesn't necessarily mean you are fit for boxing commentary), predicted this fight to be all action all the time. Really Lennox??
Mayweather waited for Pac on the ropes, and time and time again he moved to his left, Pac missed, then landed a left hook to Manny's face. This happened throughout the fight and showed me that Manny Pacquiao is a limited boxer who, until Saturday, has not needed to adapt inside the ropes.
The delusion that he won the fight and the BS excuse of his injury afterwards (Remember Roach said Manny was 110% ready and fit and was even hurting him on the pads, so he "feared" for Mayweather's health?) is really insulting and I personally lost some respect for Manny; be a man and admit you're not at his level.
I don't want to see a rematch. Why would I? The fight wasn't even competitive. Arum/Roach/Pacquiao are all begging for another nice payday, but I don't think Mayweather needs to give it to them.
If I were to guess, I think $ takes on either Thurman, Khan or Danny Garcia.
Anyway, good article.
At this point I don't care if it happens anymore.
They marinated this fight for far too long.
It should've happened between 2008-2011. They're missing out on their biggest pay day of their career and for what? Mayweather and Arum disagreements?
Please, there are other fights that will be much better than this one. Move on. Nothing new to see.
Embarrassing...you test your injuries in sparring and assess then. Also, real champs don't need tuneup fights.
Josesito Lopez's handlers need to get sued for negligence and endangerment to their boxer ever since they put him with Canelo.
This is a weak card to be put on Barclay's Center, wonder who'll show up.
Reading 95% of the comments on here I can TELL not many people here actually laced a pair of gloves before and got inside the ring and BOXED.
Comparing Pacquiao to Judah is ridiculous. Zab had all the potential in the world to be something special but never had the mental fortitude to dedicate himself to the sport of boxing, and thus became a 4 round fighter (he faded in the middle rounds).
Say what you want about Mayweather, you will never see him out of shape for a fight because he is committed to the sport of boxing in ways many of you cannot understand. His focus is unmatched and I believe tomorrow will be the culmination of Floyd's career. I think he wants to shut up a lot of people that even contemplate this fight being close.
Eddie Hearn is not stupid, so relax boys. Joshua is 4-5 fights away from a Tyson Fury fight.
These are the current IBF HW rankings:
3. Erkan Teper - Who?
5. Carlos Takam - Who?
6. Joshua Parker - NOT YET
7. Vyacheslav Glazkov - INJURED
8. Kubrat Pulev - VERY POSSIBLE
9. Derek Chisora - MEH
10. Andy Ruiz - POSSIBLE
11. Bermane Stiverne - VERY POSSIBLE
12. Robert Helenius - VERY POSSIBLE
13. David Haye - NOT YET
14. Dominic Breazeale - Who?
15. Jarrell Miller - Who?
Watch him in the next few months get matched against the likes of Stiverne, Pulev or Helenius for a valid IBF title defense. These are good step ups in quality competition with a name that would prepare him better for bigger future prizefights.
In no way, shape or form will EH put him up against Fury, Haye or even Parker at this juncture, let alone whom I consider the best heavyweight at this moment, Luis Ortiz. So chill, AJ has a few before he meets the Gypsy King.
LOL. Wow. You are a lunatic, with ******* delusions.
I call this shoulder injury either A) complete BS or B) complete perjury and unjust enrichment.
Case for A
This is Arum's strategy, plan "B", the "just in case" scenario, to get a rematch with Mayweather. Think about it- NEVER did Freddie Roach or Buboy Fernandez asked about the supposed shoulder injury in between rounds. Not once did they asked: "How's your shoulder doing champ?".
Right after the fight, when Kellerman had a mic on Pacquiao, did he once mention his torn shoulder? No. Was he in agony over a "significant tear" of his rotator cuff? No. He was delusional. He actually said "I thought I won the fight". Again, no mention of his shoulder injury.
It was only revealed once Arum had greased the wheel during the post-fight conference. They had all the "paperwork" lined up, even a sparring partner who confirmed the injury happened in March. He even claimed Mayweather camp had advanced knowledge of it and consequently took advantage of that by pulling his arm during the fight....really Manny?
In fact, if anyone reading this has ever had a "significant tear" on their rotator cuff, as some doctor has stated, then you would know it is almost impossible to even pick up a cell phone, let alone box 12 rds with the p-4-p king. On Saturday, Manny was boxing, he was throwing, he was TRYING, and yes he was using his right hand. He was outclassed. Simple as that.
Case for B:
If the injury is legit, and all of the above are wrong assumptions, then ladies and gentlemen what you have here is an absolute robbery and Arum and company, including Manny, should get sued and spend every dime they made settling civil cases out of court.
One thing is for sure. Mayweather is 48-0. Easy UD. I gave Pacman all the benefit of the doubt and even then I just gave him 4 rounds.
A clown who won with one arm? Okay sure buddy. Whatever you say.
