According to some sources, Naseem is 5'3 haha. Thats really small isnt it? When you see them on tele they look a little bigger than that. But if you think Naz is small, you will be surprised with the amount of boxers that are miniscule. Apparently Wayne McCullough and Paul Ingle (both Naz opponents in the past) were extremely small aswell. When I say small I mean you would look down on them literally. Surprising stuff.
I'm sorry man, I don't.
Hmmm, get Hatton to speak to Naz. You have contacts with Hatton somewhere along the line.
But I would like someone to come on here and tell me whether the "comeback" thing is true or not. It seemed like a dead cert in May of last year, when Naz openly announced it to basically everyone and was talking to HBO, but now it seems less likely. :(
Naz was a frightening combination puncher circa 94/95.
True, which also brings me onto my next point. After 95 he was apparently "harder to train" said Brendan Ingle. He basically sat back on the punch power and relied on it much more than when he was hungry for Robinsons title.
Naz has claim to the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and WBU titles - crazy.
Dude, you can edit 1 post and add all these comments there, you know?
But yes, he beat everyone there was to beat. Which is why I hate it when ignorant "fans" bang on about him being exposed as "soon as he stepped up". If he only stepped up for one fight how the fuck did he arrive at the Barrera fight with absolutely every single Featherweight belt you can have along with a history of bantamweight belts.
With a one-shot KO
Does Amir have any one-shot power, man?
Nope he is a combination puncher, as you know. Naz never needed that, he was a 1 punch KO artist. That would explain why he was so popular. When people wanted a KO and Tyson or any of the other heavies werent doing it, they looked at Naseem.
He was the biggest star in America from 97 to 01, other than possibly De La Hoya.
He was the most athletically talented fighter in the world in 94 and 95, other than possibly Jones Jr.
I never downed him, why are you attacking me like I said some shit about Naseem? I just asked why Platinummatt thought he was great.
Naz lost fair and square to Dean Pithie at the 1989 Schools, but he didn't lose again until Barrera. So that means he was undefeated in the whole of the 1990's!
Naz was fantastic, which is why we need him back on television ASAP. Not only is he good for the sport, but he is also good for the fans that are already there. Hey Juy, I know you have a few contacts in the game. Do you have any contacts in that part of sheffield (or should I say Doncaster Open Prison), or not?
Amir Khan? Not in the same class as a young Naz. Naz had more natural talent than Amir, I remember when Naz was robbed in the European final at schoolboy level in Dublin in 1986 - it made headlines. Khan didn't really pick up steam until he was 13-14. After the Euro success Naz was robbed at trials for the national team in the proceeding years because the 'powers that be' didn't agree with his fighting style or some shit. Never a big puncher in the amateurs, Naz went away after a highly successful 1990 and came back in 1992 to win the Junior ABA's with straight KO's (he said he'd been blessed with punching power from Allah) just to make sure he wasn't robbed, and he was going to be nominated for the Olympic trials because he was so special (even though he'd never fought as a senior before) but just could not wait to turn pro and so just got on with it because all his dreams were in the pro game.
I honestly think Naz could of gone to the Olympics and gone all the way.
Good post, and I agree. I have seen a few of Naseem's amateur bouts, and thought he was was excellent. Fast even then, and yeah didnt possess the same power. But perhaps that was the reason he wanted to turn pro, so he could plant his feet a little more and learn to punch rather than box.
I remember seeing one fight of his where he was in the schoolboy finals as it was known back then, against a boy called Danny Williams (not the Mr Kipling eating phag thats around now, a different one), and he floored him with a sweet right hand. Also he seemed to have no nerves whatsoever. A gifted athlete. Naz vs Barrerra from 97 backwards would have ended up in a KO stoppage of Barrerra I truly believe.

If I wanted Boxrec figures then I would have visited there.
In your opinion, what made him great?
Amir did get knocked down at the ABA's last year remember ;)
Hamed was NEVER knocked down in the amateurs.
Yeah, Khan was knocked down straight after he won silver at the Olympics. Hamed was only knocked down 4 times in the pro's also.
That dude is fighting someone who is like 8 inches smaller than him and probably a few hundred pounds lighter too. Yet he is still getting rocked by jabs and left hooks. How he thinks he can stand up to Tyson's power is beyond me. He has absolutely no skill, boxing/grappling anything. Tyson, even at 40 odd would murder that boy and I would love for someone to come on here and disagree, and set out a list of reasons why:
Bob "I cant fight" Sapp would KO Mike "KO Power in either hand" Tyson.
