Pretty good times, although they would've been hugely improved by the Saudis being around. After Haye–Wladimir fell through, Haye–Vitali was the fight everyone really wanted. Valuev was just the novelty consolation prize.
Apologies, I was referring to the good times as the stag do and the 12th round when Valuev was rocked by Haye
I watched the Haye vs Valuev fight in a bar in Dublin on a stag do.
Nobody else in the bar was paying attention when Haye rocked Valuev in the 12th, I leapt out of my seat. Very good times.
Nothing in it for Noakes. This would be a voluntary & thus he wouldn't even get a notch towards winning Lonsdale belt outright!
A defence of the British belt doesn't have to be a mandatory one for it to count towards the 3 needed to keep the belt outright. Voluntary defences count too.
WBC agree to their champion Spence having an undisputed title fight but then also agree to an interim title. No need for the fake belt, if it’s a final eliminator just make it that.
I wouldn't call a fight where the underdogs 7/2 in a 10 rounder and opened a lot wider as a 50/50 fight. Though there was certainly a few in the know that bet late. McCann was expected too win convincingly and even make a big statement and get the stoppage.
This guy was being touted to win world titles and really being given a huge push and just had serious fortune in his first step up against a journeyman who couldn't crack an egg.
He has been exposed & was very fortunate to come away without a loss, the whole feather-fisted southpaw, hands by the waist style with an extremely wide stance only works at a certain level and always has. It didn't fair well for Michael Conlan who was a lot more talented and I don't see it working out well for McCann either. The hype far outweighs the talent and ability.
You're not getting away with that style when you don't have elite reflexes and power.
It was competitive though I had Baluta winning (and won his rounds far more convincingly not that it matters) and that was only ever going one way. A very lucky escape.
I get your point but no way is Baluta a journeyman, he’s European level and will give anyone around that level a good fight.
The bookies had it totally wrong for me in their odds for the fight, I couldn’t believe Baluta was 4/1.
fix a 10-8 and a 10-7 round in a 10 round fight even losing every other round is a draw judges paid off on a ed sperm show again to let talentless fighters remain unbeaten
If you scored rounds 2 to 9 as 10-9 for Cash, round 1 as 10-8 Madiev round 10 as 10-7 Madiev, then the result is 95-92 to Cash
Hope to see it on youtube or something. Enguema is a big tough dude. He is one of the better Euro trialhorses… 6’5 250 & lets his hands go more often than not…
Enguema didn’t let his hands go tonight unfortunately. He mostly stalked Fisher without doing enough. Good test and win for Fisher with him being pretty much a novice
Cameron won pretty convincingly last time in my opinion, yet one judge had a draw and two had to Cameron by a round
So there's no chance Cameron can let this run even a fraction closer or she will get robbed.
I've always said Cameron would beat Taylor and is the best female fighter around those weights but you're always up against the judges with Taylor. And they're billing this fight as some kind of chance for redemption for Taylor. So Cameron better understand she's up against the judges, maybe even more so this time.
Taylor was challenger first time for Cameron's titles, yet it was Taylor with a rematch clause, what kind of crap is that? The challenger being the only one to get a rematch clause! Crazy.
You better believe they're using this clause as a chance to rob those belts.
Yeah that's why I expect Cameron to really put it on Taylor this time. Taylor's legs aren't what they once were too, so she'll have to stand and trade during points of the fight,
After a short break we finally get our new reminder how Otto Wallin deserves a fight against top HW
It was only about a week since the last reminder from Wallin/Salita, I hope he gets a big name fight soon so these Wallin articles disappear.
These are the types of alphabet ranking title fights that shouldn’t happen. They wouldn’t be a such a bad idea if most of the fights weren’t set up to get a certain promoter’s fighter a ranking.
To fight for a belt that comes with a spot in the top 15 you should have at least won your own domestic national title.
I like Callum Johnson and would like to see this match up. He is a good fighter with an aggressive style and big punch. However, I don't see him defeating Smith Jr. Joe is 4 years younger, has just as big of a punch, great stamina, takes a big shot well, and now has the mind set of a champion. Smith also has a much stronger resume.
I agree, I hope the fight does get made again, but Smith wins a close back and forth fight for me in the mid to late rounds
Sokolowski was robbed and Adeleye knew he lost. For once I agree with what David Haye said on commentary, that Adeleye needs to rematch Sokolowski straight away over 8 or 10 rounds. I’ve seen Sokolowski a few times and he’s the best heavyweight journeyman around in the Europe. Check out his boxrec, lots of his defeats are to unbeaten prospects in very close fights
