First, let me start off by saying this whole nonsense about who is responsible for the fight not coming off is tired and old. I enjoy both fighters, but they both killed this fight....one maybe more than the other. Everybody is trying to blame everyone and their mother and the only thing that truly matters at this point is that Floyd and Manny aren't fighting each other right now, so move on.
Since no one is moving on, or ever will apparently, I must say that the real problem with the blood tests is cultural differences....yes, i said it....cultural differences. It is impossible to generalize all the different cultures within asia, as there are so many, but there are quite a few that believe that their blood is their lifeline...that to even lose a drop will weaken them. Im not sure if the Filipino culture believes this, but I am pretty sure that there are a lot of Thais that do. I had a few friends from college that were from Thailand and told me this awhile back....and when I heard about Manny not wanting to take the blood tests because it "weakened" him I immediately thought of what my old friends had told me, and that Manny uses a lot of Thai training techniques and could possibly share the same sentiment on losing blood. As more details about the failed negotiations have leaked, I truly feel that this is why Manny won't take the tests so close to the bout.
Most of the Manny haters on here when mentioned that losing blood weakens him go into a frenzy and start asking for medical proof and posting articles showing how losing a teaspoon of blood doesn't weaken you physically. You are right, it really shouldn't weaken you physically, but it can weaken you mentally if you believe it does. The mind controls the body, and in this case the mind killed a big fight. But who the hell is Mayweather to ask for random blood testing anyway?
Anyway, I digress.......all im trying to say, is that for the people who think Manny is on steroids because he won't take random blood tests within 3 weeks of the fight, you are looking for any excuse possible to mitigate his achievements. Don't be so ethnocentric, look outside your culture. It is not the only one.
Also, for the people who are going to say "He is a fighter, he is supposed to lose blood." Let me lay this on you......as a fighter you are supposed to break your nose, ribs, fingers, but what if you break your nose, ribs, or fingers while training or right before the fight? You probably aren't going to fight. (Mayweather/Marquez sound familiar?)
Im not trying to offend anyone nor is the tone of this post supposed to be negative. Im just hoping before people jump to conclusions to defamate someones character they will really take a look at the entire picture. Hopefully this will add a new perspective on the turmoil during negotiations.
