Everyone makes mistakes, but it's your job to listen to for the bell and it was, believe it or not, a World title fight, so you should be one of the best at it.
If you didn't hear it, fine. But you shouldn't be reffing at that level again anytime soon. Plenty of refs that can hear a bell out there.
Sometimes the noise is too much, and Peter didn’t hear it either, it happens. What they need to do is sound it at the same time through an ear piece or haptic so the ref has no excuse to not be aware.
The biggest criticism I have of Usyk, is that he didn’t give Rico his well deserved props. He outboxed Usyk at his own game, constantly feinting, moving, changing levels and throwing and landing lots of punches.
Usyk just tried to play it off like he was carrying him, when he was actually getting pieced up at times. Feel like that showed he’s not quite so humble in almost defeat.
I like Usyk, but heavyweight boxing is nowhere as good as it used to be. The idea that any of these guys (Fury, AJ, Usyk) could compete in any era is just nonsense. The best of this era doesn't equal ATG status. I think Usyk's legacy took a hit.
Agreed, embarrassing turn of events for not only Usyk but unfortunately the heavyweight division and boxing as a whole.
If he’d just retired after beating Dubois again he’d likely have gone down as one of the best ever. Now everyone is just wondering how bad the heavyweight division actually is.
I reckon he’ll come out with the injuries excuse and not training properly.
What a weird time to be alive when former 175lb light heavyweight Tony Bellew dwarfs Ubereem and is twice his size
The lab created ubereem is no more haha, he lost so much size. Also I can’t believe how articulate and sharp he is after being knocked senseless so many times.
I know Bivol recently talked about Cruiser but in my opinion he has the frame of a 168 pound fighter and he always insisted he can make the weight. He was always a small 175 fighter only in his last 2 fights especially the last one he looked a little bit bigger but still small compared to guys like Morrell, Smith or even Yarde.
I meant Beterbiev to move up to cruiser, he’s not a tall guy but he’s absolutely shredded at 175. Intrigued to see how he’d do with his style.
Has to be Kabayel - he is the most deserving.
Next most deserving is Hgrovic
I do not want to see Hgrovic-Kabayel whilst Usyk fights Dubois for a third time .
I also do NOT care to see Usyk Wilder. Wilder scraping past Chisora doesn't justify that fight.
Kabayel is not a household name, not even in Germany. But neither was Usyk before he beat Joshua. If Kabayel were to beat Usyk then I'd be happy to see him fight Dubois. If he would beat Dubois then he'd be a name and an attraction. That's the proper way to make genuine boxing stars.
His last fight shocked everyone though, packed out an arena and the atmosphere was electric. I think this is a myth now, and he can bring big turnouts back home.
With Morrell getting stopped I thought this might happen. Eddie must’ve thought what a stroke of luck, time to slide Smith right into a title shot.
But Bivol should fight Benavidez instead, or at the very least after this warm up. Shame Beterbiev didn’t get his rematch but honestly not bothered about seeing that one again, I’d rather see him face Benavidez too or even make his way up to Cruiserweight. He always looks tight at 175lbs.
Didn't he also have terrible hand injuries? Seems counterintuitive for these light-hitting fighters (Selby, Malignaggi) with a history of hand injuries to be doing this of all sports.
Yeah that would make sense, he didn’t have many KOs. I reckon these former pros are banking on their opponents being failed boxers, but some of them are just savages and they seem to overwhelm skill and talent (especially retired boxers with no punch power). It’s a different sport.
That said, Austin Trout is a slick fighter and he has been dominating, but he’s probably a lot fresher physically than Selby et al.
He's 38yrs old and has been relatively inactive. Probably a good way to make a few bucks. Hopefully he'll get brutally ko'd then go back to Dana Whites loving arms.
In boxing I feel like the difference in size will be more apparent. Jones would've negated that by taking him to the ground in MMA but even then he didn't want to fight. In boxing he's gotta fight Ngannou where all his strengths are. Looks like boxing money has given him some courage.
I don't know if bare knuckle suits Selby. He got cut a bit near the end of his career, and his punch resistance didn't seem fantastic at that point either. Really like Lee though so hope he doesn't pick up any unneeded damage.
Interestingly Zak Chelli is 2 to 1 against Ben Whittaker in the amateours
I haven’t seen anything of Chelli outside the of the Morrell fight, but if he’s able to stay cool and collected and wait for a big shot against a smooth operator like the Cuban, then he might be able to upset Whittaker. But Morrell was cruising through that whole thing, if he had a bit of spite and stopped clowning it might’ve ended differently,
rolly sucks but even he would beat Benn.
Yeah I would love to see a Rolly Benn fight. The lead up to it would be hilarious, Benn getting outwitted easily. Then the actual fight, Benn just getting dropped on his arse by a guy much smaller than him.
This fight will not happen anytime soon. Bam is waiting for Inoue to get old, same as Bivol waited for Beterbiev and still lost the 1st fight.
It’s well documented that Bivol tried to unify against Beterbiev YEARS ago, and WBC blocked that fight.
IMO I also thought Bivol won the first fight but it was close. Losing to a beast Beterbiev is nothing to be ashamed of either way.
Dave Allen can not last the distance in this fight surely
Hrgovic has a sharp and long 1-2, you’d think that would be enough to keep Dave at bay and steadily break him down.
How did Fabio not go down, ddd mustn't have connected properly? But the hayemakers to put Fabio down missed.
How bad must joshs chin be?
I think it’s more how good Fabios chin is. He also doesn’t panic under pressure and is naturally just better at seeing the shots coming and bracing for them, can’t really teach that.
Look at Dubois’ KO ratio, he’s a big hitter even for a heavyweight.
The whole stadium wanted Wardley to win. Frank and the commentators and the ref ALL wanted Wardley to win. What was up with all those "time outs" for Wardley? Very few people wanted to see Dubois win, that's why they were giving every chance to Wardley to recover and rest. That was terrible reffing! Wardley lost a few IQ points from the battering he took tonight.
Yeah but it’s hilarious because Warren promotes both of them, just like he did with Joyce/Dubois. And just like last time he couldn’t even pretend to be happy for the winner. I’d be jibbing that contract as soon as it was up.
Wardley is a great 1-2 round fighter. He just needs to go out and try and get them out of there whilst they’re still cold and not used to his style. Almost worked tonight.
If I was Don Charles I would get nice and close to Daniel's ear and take a breath and simply shout STOP SMOTHERING YOURSELF
Yeah he could definitely have just took him apart solely on the job for the last few rounds. Not complaining though!
