Margarito didn't fought his fight and still dropped and won almost every round.
Robert Garcia (the trainer) said that they wanted to fight safe and get the win without taking much punishments and taking risks. If Margarito fought his normal fight he probably wouldn't even be talking about Roberto Garcia today. :boxing:
Margarito was trying to get the KO the first 4-6 rounds while still boxing. However after those rounds he just completely started running.
If he wouldve fought his normal fight he would've played into Garcias game & wouldve been hit A LOT.
Margarito was already slowing down the last 2-3 rounds, if he wouldve exchanged with Garcia & if it was a 12 round fight it wouldve been a different outcome.
Margarito didnt have the same power & Garcia can take a punch
Is there any reason why this nondescript fringe contender (at best) is attracting so much attention lately?
he's won 3 fights in less than 6 months. Dropped back down to 147 which not many people thought he'd ever be able to do again. He hadnt fought there in 7 years.
3 main events on ESPN 3-0 1 ko & all have been good fights.
Andrzej Fonfara vs tba (fonfara recently signed with haymon)
Tomoki Kameda vs Alejandro Hernandez (warriors won the purse bid)
Roberto Garcia vs tba (also signed with haymon)
I saw his fight vs Prescott, very unimpressive. If he gets a showtime main event that would be ridiculous, but with Al and Espinoza anything is possible.
his fight in november will be the opening fight of a triple header or the co main event if its just a 2 fight telecast.
We just saw Danny Garcia fight Rod Salka, Peterson fight Santana. Figueroa fight belmontes . Those are all fights that should never be on premium cable.
Ure right. Garcia is a fnf fighters. No way am I getting excited to watch him main event a showtime card
chris algieri recently fought on ESPN, Ruslan Provodnikov fought on ESPN, Austin Trout fought on ESPN, Danny Garcia has fought on ESPN, the list goes on and on of fighters who have fought on ESPN.
Roberto Garcia isnt fighting in the main event on showtime breh. so now what ??
Margarito totally played with this guy, even switched stances and clowned around... he doesn't have any future in this (or any) division
im assuming thats his only fight youve seen? he's improved a lot since fighting margarito more so mentally. He was mentally ready for a fight vs Margarito in mexico with the entire crowd against him. Garcia was too busy trying to land a bomb vs Margarito.
:lol1: Dude i'm telling you, Garcia's better off at 154.
Alright lets see how he looks in his next 147 fight :boxing:
154 is tough bro, its not as deep as 147 but those are some big guys at 154. On top of that Garcia has more options at 147 and is easily making the weight.
Conventional wisdom says as you get older it gets tougher to make and drop weight but so far so good.
He made 154 on 12 days notice. thats 10 days to make weight cuz he got the call it was late the night & weigh in is the day before the fight. lost 17 lbs in 10 days
I dont think people are taking this into account. Either that or they didnt see the fight.
I thought he lost to Mike Arnaoutis & so did Mike thats why he decided to go to the cards after a headbutt.
He looked better vs Aron Martinez but Martinez isnt all that. He has 4 kos to go along with his 3 losses
It would be a entertaining fight no doubt & i would love to see it as part of the planned triple header on november 1st.
I don't think Lopez is strong enough or good enough of a boxer to beat Garcia.
I mean this when I say it. Lopez kicks his ass. Put some points up.
Lopez looked like a bum vs Mike Arnaoutis & then beat the ATG Aron Martinez. he isnt the same fighter he was before fighting Canelo & Maidana
Yea i think Josesito Lopez would get the late round stoppage against Garcia.
At 154 it would be a different story, Lopez gets destroyed at 154.
I think Garcia's draining himself to get down to 147. He was huge at 154 ffs.
Garcia was a lot more powerful and had better stamina up at light middleweight.
he is NOT draining himself. he made 154 on 12 days notice that shows you he makes 154 too easy. so why fight against bigger guys at 154 when he easily makes 147?
Garcia has never been stopped i don't see josesito stopping him.
If Margarito fought his normal fight he would have got his ass knocked out. That's the reason why Margarito's trainer didn't want to take any risks againt Garcia and told him to run like a bytch. They knew Roberto Garcia was relentless at 154 and the only way to win was to run like a bytch.
Garcia is relentless at both weight classes. People gotta take into account that he had 3 fights in less than 6 months, two of those fights being at 147 where he hadnt fought in 7 years. Fighting November 1st will give him enough time to rest & still have a 7 week training camp.
He will look even better in this next fight

josesito hasnt looked the same since fighting Canelo & then Maidana back to back. He looked horrible vs Mike Arnaoutis
Sorry papo but Garcia lost to Prescott and is going to replace Soto-Karrass as Al Haymon's merry go round fighter.
He didn't lose to Prescott. One flash knock down doesn't win the entire fight PAPO
If this the Garcia who Margarito bullied and dropped and boxed his ears off?
Garcia took that fight on short notice and had promotional problems for 2 1/2 years leading up to that fight so he had to fight in costa rica.
He returned and had a quick stay busy fight then the margarito fight came up.
he wasnt mentally prepared for that hostile environment against a fighter who was still good in Margarito.
The ref was horrible in that fight and Tonys game plan of boxing threw off Garcia but he still put in good work vs Tony in those last 4 rounds
It would be a tough fight for both guys but Garcia is bigger and can pack a punch. Maidana has been hurt and dropped by Josesito lopez and Khan. As long as Garcia lets his hands go he should be able to hurt Maidana, especially with that left hook to the body.
Caca fight.
Garcia just went life and death with Prescott for fuks sake.
he didnt go life and death. rewatch the fight he was in control the entire time and wasnt even hurt when he was knocked down
Garcia would have to be a lot busier than he's been in the last three fights and he would have to cut the ring effectively to make it competitive
he did well against prescott who is taller and has a longer reach than Thurman. & how good is thurmans power? he is a great talent and has ton of potential but this would be one of if not the toughest fight of Thurmans career thus far.
Roberto would have to fight a damn good fight but so would Thurman. It would be tough on both guys but Im glad it'll be 12 rounds cuz Roberto is always in great shape and always finishes strong.
That was a flash knockdown if there ever was one and looked to be more balance. He definitely wasn't hurt. Second, Margarito stood in the trenches with him and was forced to back down. He never once came close to hurting Garcia.
exactly same thing with the Prescott fight he was caught off balance which caused the flash knockdowns but Garcia was never hurt.
After the 4th round Margaritos corner told him that Garica could take a punch and not to stand and trade with him.
Plus Garcia hadn't fought in a meaningful fight prior to the Margarito fight in nearly 3 years! he had ring rust and wasnt mentally prepared for a fight of that magnitude.
I can see that point, Thurman will batter Garcia look even more dangerous for the WW division.
i honestly don't know abut that. he wouldnt stand and trade with diego chavez who is tiny. Keith was content with staying on the outside and boxing. Thurman has only fought 3 rounds this entire year, I'm sure there will be ring rust & he is barely gonna be 26. This is the perfect time for Roberto Garcia to go after Thurman
Garcias options are Kameagi or Thurman. Either late october or november. Thurman is still relatively untested. Diego Chaves gave him a damn good fight before getting ko'd. Roberto Garcia will give him a damn good fight and can definitely win.
Prescott had a 5 inch reach advantage and was at least 2 inches taller. That wont be the case vs Thurman. Garcia is taller and has a longer reach
Lol How?, Margarito had been out for the 1 year, dropped Garcia with one punch in the first round, corner told him to get rounds in, so he actually "Out Boxed" Garcia pretty easily. Looked like sweet pea in there, doing the Matador "Ole",
That was a site the to be seen.:lol1:
no mames bro. Garcia wasnt mentally prepared for that fight. It was a hostile environment, the ref sucked & he deducted 2 points for no reason, & he was only going to win by KO. He lost his cool once he went down with the flash knockdown and forgot about his game plan and started trying to knock Tonys head off. In the last 3 rounds Garcia picked it up and Margarito was slowing down. It wouldve been interesting if it wouldve been a 12 round fight as Tony was slowing down and Garcia was picking it up. Still a good learning experience and Garcia has really improved since then & is way tougher mentally
40k? Wtf is the avg budget for a FNF? Lol
I mean, the guy went from making damn near a million vs Canelo to 40k? Ouch!
Posted from Boxingscene.com App for Android
He made 200k against canelo
This is the same guy that got outclassed by Margarito and was considered a bum not too long ago.
that was 4 years ago & he gained a lot of experience from that fight. What people don't know is that Rob didnt have a significant fight prior to the Margarito fight in nearly 3 years so his ring rust showed a bit but it really hurt him with the mental aspect of things.
he was coming on strong towards the end of the fight and i honestly believe it was a 12 round fight Rob wouldve been able to seriously hurt Margarito bcuz Margarito was gassing
People who really think Herrera wiped out Garcia are dumb. It was a close fight, but it wasn't one sided at all.
no one is saying the fight was on sided but it was a clear Herrera win. the judges are the ones that had it as a one sided fight for garcia which was flat out wrong.
Danny Garcia should move up to welterweight and fight Roberto Garcia.
Puerto Rico vs Mexico!!
Garcia is very strong, tough fighter. His problem is that he is so stiff. I haven't seen or kept up with Prescott but I would pick Prescott over him if he's close to what he was.
Garcia has improved, but he's so rough around the edges, he has little defense, just wants to take your head off and has terrible technique for a pro boxer.
He is fun to watch though because he doesn't give one fuk.
which of his fights have you seen? his last two or are you referring to his fight against margarito ? he has skills and can box but he's a smart fighter he'll adjust when he needs to. For instance this last fight he knew he was gonna have to put constant pressure on Cayo and he didnt respect Cayos power so he didnt implement that much head movement or boxing. he didnt need to do that
