First allow me to say that I'm a huge fan of both and want them both to succeed. In fact I wouldn't even want them to fight each other cus I'd hate to see either one destroy the other.
But with that said, these guys are very similar and Kovalev is in some ways just a bigger stronger version of Golovkin.
By the way, Kovalev looks like he can be Golovkin's father but did you know Golovkin is actually older than him and Kovalev is younger and fresher. Kovalev is 2 inches taller, younger, has 2 inch reach advantage, is much heavier and punches harder.
However to me the big difference between them is that Golovkin gets hit, alot. Show me a fight where Kovalev was getting tagged as much as Golovkin got tagged by Curtis Stevens.
The point is if they fought, I see Golovkin being far more willing to get tagged just to land some punches of his own and this would be his downfall. Kovalev would annihilate Golovkin, point blank.
You need to do yourself a favor and watch rewatch the Golovkin-Stevens fight with the ability to slowmo and frame-by-frame. You will see almost all of Stevens shots are rolled, or blocked with shoulders, arms, or gloves. Post-fight, Stevens even admitted in an interview that he simply couldn't hit Golovkin cleanly and therefore never could hurt him.
You see, Golovkin has VERY sneaky subtle defense and it is superb, but opponents (and viewers) vastly underestimate it until they are in the ring with him. It is honestly a huge advantage for Golovkin that his defense is so underestimated.
Of course he's not moving up. He's happy in the 155-lb division. We'll call it the Caneloweight division. I guess Canelo's plan is to beat Cotto and hold the Middleweight WBC and Ring belt hostage away from Middleweights while defending it against Super Welterweights? The WBC claims the winner of Cotto-Canelo must fight GGG, but they previously said the winner of Cotto-Geale had to fight GGG or be stripped. I doubt the WBC will strip Canelo or Cotto, regardless of who wins and how long they duck their mandatory.
Didn't Cotto just say he would vacate if the WBC tried to make him fight Golovkin? He said he would "save the 3% fee" or something like that? Cotto and Freddie need to get their story straight, because Cotto is running around saying he's not fighting GGG and Freddie is saying he is. I'm gonna believe Cotto here, since Freddie has a track record of running off at the mouth with BS that's not true.
LOL @ all of the morons who think a fight between GGG and Lara is possible with the political lines in boxing. Let me clue all of you boxing newcomers in: GGG is contractually obligated to HBO. Lara is contractually obligated to Haymon and the PBC. PBC fighters can't fight on HBO because Haymon won't allow it and HBO fighters can't fight on PBC because HBO won't allow it, so all of the morons saying GGG is ducking Lara or Lara is ducking GGG are clueless about the sport. This fight can't happen. It's impossible, so stop making yourselves look like fools.
Apparently Floyd doesn't agree with Marquez in thinking it's that easy for him to get a win over Pacquiao in Vegas because Mayweather is not taking the fight...
Haymon will keep feeding this fraud tomato cans until he finally feeds him to Beterbiev. Stevenson had one punch in his entire arsenal. The top guys would rip him apart.
...yeah so much confidence he needs catchweights to defend his Middleweight titles, and he's running from his mandatory, GGG, like a chicken from the hatchet. Freddie must be inspiring.
I hope Ward's team at Roc Nation really isn't this stupid. Why the **** would they try to make a fight with GGG immediately following the Lemieux fight knowing GGG is fighting the Cotto-Canelo winner next. Of course they would turn it down. It makes it seem like either Roc Nation is clueless or weren't really serious about making the fight. Of course GGG's management isn't going to jeopardize the fight with Cotto/Canelo. Any half-brained fool knows this so why didn't Roc Nation shoot for after Lemieux and after the WBC title fight, whether it's vs Cotto/Canelo or a WBC contender if they are stripped? Had they done that, then I'd think Roc Nation was serious about making the fight, but this offer of trying to supersede the Cotto/Canelo winner is just idiocy and makes it seem like they weren't very serious.
Cotto's "plan" is to fight some blown up Welterweight, call it a Middleweight title defense, and then drop the belt and run like hell when GGG, his mandatory, comes along.
Froch should man up and fight GGG, then, if he believes GGG can't last but a few rounds with the Cobra. That would be a fun fight to watch. Make it happen, Carl.
Algieri fight lead to bigger fights? Khan had a big fight right in front of him. Brook for the IBF title, which would set him up perfectly for an undisputed WW unification match with the May/Pac winner. WTF is he thinking? Oh, yeah, probably "Brook would knock me the fuk out." Khan should just forget May/Pac/Cotto, he doesn't have to stones to take the risks needed to set himself up for the big prizes.
Didn't Mancini just Tweet that GGG was the p4p #1 bar none? Guess he's losing faith already? What I'm wondering is: what if GGG beats Froch brutally? How is he ever going to convince the other MWs to unify with him after that? If he beats Froch badly, he almost has to stay at SMW because MWs (and Canelo) aren't going to want any of that.
