Idk that you can blame the sport so much. Most other sports became what they became cuz they got turned into legal monopolies. Thats what any sports league needs. BUT because of the IBC back in the 50's(?) & that lawsuit that prevents boxing to have an entity that thinks first & foremost for boxing while also taking revenue from the sport.
Would it even be possible to open some new kind of promotion completely unrelated to the current broken system? Like how Pride FC got made despite UFC's existence?
This is hilarious... all these chumps instantly go to khans chin but forget he fought a harder puncher in Maidana and nearly had him gone in 1st round.. Thurman hasn't KOd anyone in years
Exactly. Thurman doesn't have what it takes to hang with Khan.
In fact, Thurman's style plays right into Khan's favour.
To be honest, I don't expect Thurman to last 8 rounds here. He won't be allowed to run and dance like he did against Bundu. If Khan could stop Lo Greco in 1, he can certainly stop Thurman in 8.
He needs a tough fight. Even Beterbiev would do.
You don't become less of a robotic Russian who got beaten by a good black fighter by merely beating another robotic Russian.
Only Stevenson is good enough, no one cares about Beterbiev.
All of these people who claim Kovalev would beat Stevenson... I'm like, seriously. Do you even believe that **** yourself? Kovalev got a horrible defense. Stevenson is an old joke who wastes his career away, there is no reason for any of you to bring that up. I know Stevenson is ****. But he hits hard. He hits fast. And Kovalev got a lame defense.
Ward beats both Kovalev and Stevenson any day, though, they're just too stylistically primitive for all the Wards/Mayweathers/Crawfords/nextlevelblackslicksters out there...
redeem himself for being cheated? shouldn't ward have to redeem himself since hes the one who needed corrupt judges and refs to give him the win?
He didn't need that. I saw the fights. Ward won, that's all there is to it. I understand he may not be very likable to some, but he won and that's how history will remember it. It's kinda like those who claim Mayweather lost to Castillo... People whined, but today, everyone has accepted "nah, Mayweather deserved it, we were just whining". Same thing is going on here. In a few years, this childish loser mentality will come to an end.
Respect to Kovalev for knocking Ward down, though. Although he fought a past-prime Ward, it was still quite a feat to knock down such an elite fighter.
Kovalev doesn't need Stevenson & Stevenson sure as hell doesn't want Kovalev, even after his 2 losses to Ward. That ship has sailed, got lost at sea and sank.
Who told you that Stevenson was the one avoiding the fight?
Fact is Canelo outweight Floyd by 15lbs and still got walked down by the feather fisted, smaller man.
Facts? Please elaborate. What is your documentation that Canelo weighted 15lbs more than Floyd?
Canelo is a heavyweight weight bully golovkin is a small middleweight tho even if he looked drained in his last 3 fights
While I do agree that Canelo has spent a lot of time fighting too small opponents, he is not a heavyweight at all.
So how does canelo go from looking skeletal at previous weighins to skeletor the following day?
If i used terms like "skeletor", I would get laughed at. Do you have some concretely proven evidence that ginger boy has such superhuman powers as to rehydrate 15-30 lbs?
The question should rather be, why are Golovkin and Canelo even on the P4P list? Crawford has managed to be the one unbeatable guy in multiple divisions that no one there could mess with, while Golovkin and Canelo are not even the definitive champs of one division and have plenty of opponents around that could possibly beat them. They simply don't have Crawford's aura of invincibility and he's not a primitive slugger like them.
You don't re hydrate "over night".
You weigh in at 9am.......1pm......3pm.
If your weigh time is 9am and bell time is 10pm the next day you have over 36 hours to re hydrate. At 1pm less time and a weigh in at 3pm a little less time.
Fighters and their trainers know the fighters metabolize, they know what they can accomplish and what might be detrimental.
Your cutting fluids so to replenish them alomng with a few solid meals is a normal schedule.
Years ago same day weigh ins produced 6 to 15 pounds depending on the "cut" ratio.
Late in his middleweight career LaMotta could add 15-18lbs pounds from 8am to 10pm.
Mind over matter and a lot of sacrifices and chewing & spitting on the rope by the furnace.
Ray
How well-documented is this superhuman feat by LaMotta?
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Like every fight where they show fight nite weights.Shoot I remember Gatti weighin in at 159 after weigin 140 with Gamace.Tons of exsample.
But can any of the examples be proven?
kovalev was never the same after killing roman simikov. prime kovalev literally kills prime ward. its a shame the past it kovalev dominated ward and got robbed and then ward ran away into retirment with another win after low blowing him over and over.
Dude, Ward won, two times, he would have won a third and fourth time too. Lightning doesn't strike twice. If Ward and Kovalev fought again, then what? What will your excuse be next time?
Kovalev had been active ever since the Simakov fight and he really tried to hurt Pascal, besides scoring one knockout after another. Kovalev is not affected by Simakov's death, at least not regarding his fighting style, and he doesn't give a bigger **** about his opponents security more now than before that fight. If anything, he has gotten more aggressive.
Bro SHUT THE **** UP about racism. People not liking Ward is not because of racism, he's half-white-black, people dislike Ward because he is boring and a cheater that gets away with everything.
Is it racism that white, asian, mexican people are praising Spence, Crawford, Porter? And look at their similarities to why they are well liked "they entertain" Get that racism talk out of here.
Dude, if you saw Kovalev beating Ward, there are only 6 options.
1 - You're racist.
2 - You don't understand/appreciate the technical aspects of boxing.
3 - You're biased for one reason or another. Maybe you like Russia or got Russian citizenship or a Russian girlfriend or whatever.
4 - You're a massive Kovalev fan.
5 - You're a massive Ward hater.
6 - You were too hopeful when watching the fight, so you underrated everything Ward did. Watch it again.
While I think Canelo won, Golovkin did not get completely schooled and I can't ignore the huge amount of people who think Golovkin won. Not all of them can be biased or retarded. Maybe we're all best suited with the draw. Perhaps it was for the best.
fact of the matter is most thought he lost the 1st fight and the 2nd fight was ended with illegal shots, blatantly illegal shots. Seem to be a lot of psychics on this site 'ward was going to stop him anyway' oh yeah cause theres never been a fighter in the history of the sport who recovered from being wobbled lol. Might aswell just end every fight once someones stunned 'its over, he would lose anyway'.
It doesn't matter what "most" think, as most people are biased. What matters is what happened. It's obvious who won. You don't like Ward, that's fair, but he won the fight and a single knockdown doesn't change the fact that he won the vast majority of rounds.
Most people used to think the world was flat, bro.
In USA, Russia or a neutral territory? Location of battle matters these days!
USA, of course. Where else?
I would love if they fought in Russia, though. Then I won't have to stay up all night waiting for the fight.
If you like fast movements and powerful counter punches, you had Canelo winning.
If you like jabs and moving forward, you had Golovkin winning.
If you had Mayweather in the ring with either of them, you would have Mayweather winning both easily... I'm starting to think that even Mayweather is considering a comeback against Golovkin, now that he sees that it wouldn't be a harder task than Canelo.
Actually Ward from 2nd fight was pretty damn close to prime Ward. He was in terrific shape, and everything he did great years before were on display again.
Ward looked better the second time because he had Kovalev completely figured out by then, not because he suddenly returned to his prime.
The only people who hate on Carl Froch are non-whites who are made to feel massively inferior by the Cobra.
Froch always fought the best of the best, with no fear. IMO, white people don't even deserve for Froch to be called white.
I consider him a black man, limited by the fact that he was born into a genetically inferior white body, so only his black power of will keeps him going.
Apparently Vitali is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time because his face got ripped apart by Lewis.
The oldest, slowest, fattest, worst-conditioned version of Lewis to ever step into the ring.
But come on, bro, Lewis is the best heavyweigt of all time. He won, fair and sqaura, but Vitali IS one of the best heavyweight fighters of all time and I can't imagine many others than Lewis beating him.
Don't claim that Tyson or Ali would beat Vitali now, lol. Vitali got a bad resume, but he has proven by sheer dominance that he is probably the second best heavyweight ever in a head-to-head context.
Guys, I love Vitali Klitschko, but if we're talking resumes, don't get him near a Carl Froch thread... While it may seem like I'm ****ting on Froch with this thread, he was a bad mother****er who always fought the best opponents he could find. To me, he's not even white. He got the heart of a black warrior. He fought the best of the best, all the time. Bute was an undefeated mystery back then, same with Ward, same with Pascal, Kessler was still great, Abraham was still great and generally, Vitali has fought at a much lower level. Except for the Lennox Lewis fight. He lost, but massive respect for trying. Froch deserves respect for always taking chances.
You people should be careful with your attitudes. Any true boxing fan saw Ward winning cleanly 2 times in a row and any true boxing fan knows that Barrera is a VERY significant threat to Kovalev. There has been talks that they could face each other soon. I doubt Kovalev wants that, but if it happens, then mark my words, there's a good chance your boy is getting spanked again. Barrera is aaall wrong for Kovalev... He got much better handspeed and if you can't see that, then try again. Kovalev is all power and no skills. He was tripping over his own feet as he chased Pascal around the ring, he left himself wide open to be Ward's first KO victim in years and generally, he just looks very clumpsy when fighting. He couldn't even finish an old shot Bernard Hopkins in 12 rounds, there's no excuse for that, except a lack of skills (at least in Kovalev's case, due to his massive power).
Ortiz and Povetkin are both too old now.
Parker is at around the same level as Hughie. Okay, but nothing special.
Fury has been away from the ring for too long.
Wilder got no skills.
Joshua will obviously rule the division for a long, long time.
I don't think he should have lost to Dirrell.
I think Dirrell should have been thrown out.
The fight for me presents that rare occasion when landing the better shots doesn't mean a victory is deserved. Man launched himself to the canvas a few times to avoid contact. I've never seen anything like that since. So glad he didn't get the nod there. For long spells he point blank refused to engage so you can conceivably give Froch the nod for aggression and 'being the boss'.
hmm... Everytime I watched the fight, I always just saw Froch chase Dirrell, with Dirrell dominating with his sharp sudden combinations being thrown once in a while... But when fists were flying and it really mattered, Dirrell simply got the better of it. The coward won, let's just accept it.
