Ward rounds were:
3
4
5
9
10
11
12
Oh!
You don't think he won round 2 too?
Why not? He clinched in that round too - if it gave him all the other ones, why not round 2? :)
I love how Ward fans do 'reverse engineering': first calculating the number of rounds he needs, then trying to scrape that exact number of rounds... If there had been a second KDs, say in round 1, they would not be ashamed to say "yeah, Ward won all the rounds from that point on!" to save the decision.
Notice how they bring up scorecards and punch stats to justify their *****ing. Yet when Márquez got robbed by Pacquiao in a VERY SIMILAR close fight, there were no complaints.
Exactly! Let me break this down: you have scorecards and stats to justify one claim, and 'racism' and 'yeah well there have been worse verdicts' for the other.
:D
I mean, this was not an outrageous 'robbery' - just a close fight with a very obvious hometown decision.
I hope everyone can agree on two points:
1. Most ppl (experts, commentators, etc.) saw Kovalev win that fight. This can actually be established as an objective, empirical fact and not just an opinion.
2. No way this bout would be scored this way anywhere outside the US.
Thank you.
I would really like to know how the European fans feel about the endless robberies that happen every weekend in europe like in the solis fight last week.
Yet you guys a losing it over a fight that was a clear 1-2 fight difference for each fighter.
Hahaha finally a Ward fan admitting this was a robbery (but only a SMALL one) :).
Let me sum up then:
- Kov was the aggressor
- Kov landed more punches overall
- Kov landed more punches in most of the rounds
- Kov landed more power punches in most of the rounds
- Kov scored the knockdown
- Kov was the champion
I know I know Ward won on the ring generalship :) :)
Guys fighting like Fury or Mayweather are a big problem.
I understand boxing mavens will appreciate Floyd, and for a reason, but such fighters will not be able to generate money for boxing.
Many ppl saw the 'fight of the century' only to be BORED TO DEATH. Sure you can blame tham for not having a refined tastes, but they'll just shrug their shoulders, "f**k that, I'm never watching boxing again". If we don't want to see boxing to give way to MMA and stuff over the next couple of decades, we need to make boxing exciting to an average Joe, not just to a select group of experts.
Easy win for GGG. Hope you guys realise he intentionally lowered his defence and brawled like always because he knew brook had no power to affect him.
That's what was televised in Poland and every other country in the world - except, apparently, for the UK. What the British fans saw, judging by the comments here, was Brook giving Golovkin a sound thrashing for 5 rounds until the ref stepped in and mercifully saved GGG from impending death.
I don't get why Hearn gets to comment decisions. Close decision this close decision that. I mean I get why this happens, but like officially he comments as what? As a fan? As a sponsor?
Strong first post.
Welcome to BoxingScene.
Thanks.
I'm a huge Brook fan and think he's possibly the best WW, but - like many - I thought this fight made no sense whatsoever. I wanted to see if others felt the same way so started reading this thread. Many guys betting on Brook, well, strange but OK. But when I read Brook was winning the fight when it was stopped - that was too much for me :). If your imagination is that strong, why watch the fight at all!
So, I did not intend to comment, but that much disconnection from reality took me by surprise :).
Terrible fight that had no real reason to be made in the first place.
A good fight that had no reason to be made.
Challenges - there were enough challenges in welter. If going up 2 classes makes you 'valiant', then going up 3 makes you even more valiant, etc.
There are really very good reasons boxing has weight divisions.
As to giving Brook respect, I have nothing but respect for Brook. But there's respect and there's living in a parallel reality.
Wow, you guys are amazing. So amazing I actually took the pain to register here, because I need to make sure.
In the bout I saw, Golvokin won by TKO, and Brook was taken to hospital afterwards. Apparently many of you saw a different fight, in which Brook kicked GGG's ass (or at least "would have"). Unfortunetaly i can't find that footage anywhere - please be sure to post it on YT once you've finished videocapturing it from your nintendo.
Pff... connaisseurs of boxing.
Briedis looked sharp... Starting when exactly?
Did he look sharp in the 1st? Did he look sharp in the 2nd before the elbow?
Any bum can look sharp against a guy who has no legs from an illegal elbow.
"Briedis would have won anyway". Perhaps. Bookies had him as a favorite.
But let me ask you, why do you watch bouts at all. If you're happy with 'would have been' then real boxing is not for you, switch off the tv and go play Nintendo :).
Reality 1: bookmakers favour GGG 5 or 6 to 1, experts vote unanimously for GGG, even guys who otherwise consider Brook the best WW.
As predicted, GGG wins by KO, Brook lands in hospital.
Reality 2: some British guys predict Brook will win.
As predicted, he is doing very well and already clearly winning the fight by round five, and indeed goes on to win by UD (if not KO).
I'm pretty sure one of them happened on Nintendo.
I was quite sure Jacobs would win, but rooting for Ryder now, the kind if grit he shows in his fights and is showing now is the sould of boxing. I did not think it would be enough but looks like it might be. Well I hope it is then
