After seeing the fight tonight, hopefully Tarver goes back to the gym! He didn't look impressive at all. He was somehow exhausted by the 10th round and it makes me wonder if he trained much.
If he tries to move up in weight with the conditioning he has right now, it'll be lights out for Tarver.
First of all toney isnt a heavyweight, he's a hormone juicing fat lard! And Tarver is too much of a coward to even think of moving up. Who in the heavies can he possibly beat? Ruiz will lay him out in 3 rounds. Tarver's skinny ass would be KO by a jab!
100% agree with that. If anything Tarver should hope that Hopkins or Taylor steps up in weight to fight him.
Roy looked like the old Roy, with 50% of the speed and 25% of the punches.
If he would've just put some pressure on, or tried to finish off Tarver in the 10th (I think it was the 10th when he hurt him), Roy would've knocked him out. Tarver had nothing left in the tank, regardless of what anyone says. Look at his legs in the fight, from the 10th on, he was wobbly and had them close together...a sign of a fighter who's tired as hell.
It's funny you say he only had 50% of his speed because he still looked faster than any fighter I've seen with the exception of Mayweather Jr.
To add onto the previous reply,
You'll never hear Tarver being referred to as a "great fighter". Yes, he beat RJJ and that is the only reason you will ever hear his name.
You Jones nutt huggers amuse me. But I tire of your idiocy and will now retire for the evening.
I've already said in a previous post that I dislike RJJ. The post above is just fact. It's just hard for you Tarver nut huggers to accept the fact that he will be in Roy's shadow permanently and will only mentioned when RJJ's name is mentioned. It's as simple as that.
You have to get to the body before you can hit it and when your opponents reach is more than half the size of your body, good luck!!
Vitali is a smart fighter. Toney would definately have is hands full with him.
I just wanted to add that Tarver has beat Roy twice and is therefore a better fighter. That's all I got to say. :D
Better fighter is funny. Let's take a small look at some history.
Roy Jones Jr: 50 fights before his first real loss, that Griffin DQ was bullshit. Griffin lost that fight and he proved he was no match for Roy in the rematch.
Antonio Tarver: 16 fights and then loses to Eric Harding by UD. Harding was knocked out by Jones.
How about their records? We'll use the first 27 fights of RJJ for comparison since that's all the fights Tarver has.
Tarver 24-3-0 (18ko's)
Jones 27-0-0 (23ko's)
How about talent?
Power- Jones edges Tarver. 77% of Jones fights were knockouts compared to 75% for Tarver. If we use the first 27 fights, Jones wins the power category hands down with 85% of the first 27 being KO's
Speed- All are compared to Jones when it comes to speed (except for Mayweather Jr.) and Tarver isn't even mentioned in that category.
Defense- Just look at the record for the first 27 fights, apparently Jones was doing a little more bobbing and weaving. Hell, lets look at the total history. Jones didn't actually lose until his 51st fight.
So as far as Tarver being a better fighter...history will not show it.
Why would anyone want Tarver to move up to fight Toney. He could barely hold his own weight up tonight at 183. He looked like crap in this fight. If he put on weight, I'd bet on him losing like I bet on Tyson losing...after 4 rounds, Tarver would be out on his feet and one punch later, especially from a guy like Toney...Tarver would be on the canvas like RJJ.
Tarver is the better man. No excuses. Roy is not in Tarver's league.
How could you say Roy is not is Tarver's league. Who was Tarver before he fought RJJ? RJJ's name has been around for the past 15 years and it will go down in history as one of the best. Tarver has been mentioned over the past 3 or 4 years and is not even close to being mentioned as one of the greatest fighters of all time. His name will be like Buster Douglas's name. He'll be known as the man that beat RJJ and it will end there.
I just got through watching the fight and I'll have to tell you, Tarver in no way looked like a great fighter. I really dislike RJJ. His cockiness is beyond annoying. He lost this fight hands down. But, there were times throughout this fight that Roy made things look easy. He was just too damn scared to finish it off and the 11th round is the best example of why he was scared. He knew one punch could end it. To sum this up, it is absurd to say that Roy is not in Tarver's league. Tarver has no league. He is simply the man who beat Roy.

I already gave him his respect. He beat RJJ, twice. There it is again.
Tarver 2, Jones 1
End of story
Tarver beat all of their common opponents where Roy never beat Johnson. Tarver is the better man at the end of the day. Roy is FINISHED, and I am enjoying every minute of this night. I don't even want to go to sleep, I'm loving it so much. This night will forever remain one of the greatest nights in boxing history.
That is true to an extent...it took Tarver two times before he beat Eric Harding. He lost the first time by UD. Roy beat harding the first time they fought by KO. Roy has only fought Johnson once. Hopefully it will remain that way.
