Saul Alvarez will turn 34 in July. He is 60-2. Forbes estimates his net worth at a minimum of 275 million. The pressure seems to be mounting for Canelo to finally give Benavidez a shot. It appears he wants no part of it. Alvarez has fought some big fights, despite what anyone says. His motivation and desire to fight the big fights looks to be understandably winding down. I’d be surprised at this point if Canelo bends to pressure and agrees to a match with Benavidez. It looks like he’s preparing for retirement. Just a few more non-threatening defenses. If Alvarez finally takes Benny’s challenge, he’s even more of a warrior than I already give him credit for. Just my take.
Your reaching. Calling and being a mandatory are very different things. It’s still building. Casuals dont know who Benividas is. Theirs more money to be made if the fights occurs later. I’m not justifying it. I’d of liked to see the fight happen 2 years ago. This game isn’t about fighting the best. Ask tank and his millions.
- - Bena moved to LH for his next fight…where you been?
People have been calling for this fight 4 years ago. Floyd said on tv, two years ago he thought Canelo was ducking Benavidez. Stop pretending like this happened over night lol. Even 2 years to build up a fight is terrible. Just because it took 5 years for another fight does not mean that should be the standard. Those fights were well past their best.

So the same stupid thing should happen? You know in the UFC this fight would have been made 3 years ago right?
And that’s one of the reasons UFC has grained so many followers. Boxing would be exponentially better, and attract more fans, if the best fought the best on a regular basis. And I know it’s a fantasy, but, if scoring in this sport were legit, boxing would reign supreme.

no it shouldnt.. but you shouldnt get mad about it either if you let all those other matches marinate for almost 10 years.
yes, in the UFC it would happen already because in the UFC dana is the only one calling the shot not like in boxing where we have 3-4 different boxing organizations and promotors ALL going against each other.
and people were calling for the floyd/pac fight for like almost 10 years before it finally happen...

It's not silly when a fighter ducks his mandatory for three years. This "Canelo has nothing to prove" is ridiculous if he holds belts. If he doesn't want to fight his mandatory hẹ needs to give up the belts or get the hell out of boxing and the 168 pound division.
No, ducking your mandatory isn't silly. What I’m calling silly is the accusation that Canelo is a coward. He’s just not. He’s doing what every big-name fighter does, especially in the modern era: Alvarez chooses what he wants, not what’s chosen for him.
He’s been a big money making prise fighter for almost 20 years and he will fight Benividas just not now. It hasn’t been 2 years to build up this fight. Mayweather/pac was over 5 and Crawford/spence was about the same so it’s early and building. They never give us what we want when we want it.

He just turned down 55m guaranteed plus PPV and left the same promotion as David, yet you are still optimistic the fight will happen. That sounds extremely logical...
Who offered that?
Actually he still has not proven he is the best fighter at 168. Oops.

Allegedly. I don't know if that's true.
Eddie Hearn alleges that he turned down the deal because Benavidez wasn't an option so who really knows?
I'm sure he'd fight Benavidez.
I think ultimately Canelo wants the best fights, he knows that's the best fight to make and the people want to see it.
I'm optimistic it happens.

Rematch was offered at 175 same terms Bivol refused(bad advice) didnt everyone on here want him to fight Charlo or Andrade a few years ago?
A few years ago, that's the key. And no, you don't offer the same money to the guy that just whoop your a$$. He wanted and deserved more money, or the same money for his 168 belts.
The only question is, will Benavidez "cross the street", is he even allowed to, does he even want to face Canelo on DAZN? From his last interview it doesnt seem he intends to do so.
Good post. Totally agree that Canelo has nothing to prove — to anyone but himself, that is. He’s a champion, so he might buckle to demands. But all the coward talk, even by Mike Tyson, is silly.
