At his peak on his best night, it did seem like Mattysse was perceived as the more dangerous and lethal fighter 'And it was not just hype'.
Maidana in comparison, the perception of him throughout his entire career 'Was that he was a durable, game fighter who will always be competitive against most fighters'.
Maidana was the same kind of category of fighter as Shawn Porter 'Skill for skill Maidana was not really at the level, were he could beat High end world level or Elite level fighters'.
But his attributes as a fighter, ensured that he was pretty much always going to really challenge his opponents.
So it appeared that he never really had a distinct peak 'Just solid form and longevity'.
Overall most people would rate Maidana's career higher 'But maybe at his absolute peak form, Mathysse was the more dangerous and lethal fighter'.
Someone knows what thier eyes are watching...Lucas was one bad dude!! Met him in person right before his fight with Garcia, chatted it up for a minute but til this day, I cant get over the fact of how small he was, dude was at most 5'6"

He nearly got stopped by a brutal bodyshot from amir khan that would've stopped 99.9% of every other boxer on this planet. To recover from that shot should've been impossible. He was also dropped 3 times by Victor Ortiz.
- - Wuz U drunk then? Drugs?
Khan being held up by Cortez to prevent Maidana from knocking him out, then later Cortez grabbing Maidana from behind to prevent the KO of Khan.
Maidana KOed Oscar's new Golden Boy Vic in a shoot out, Poor Vic never the same, nor was Khan, nor was Boner, nor was TBE TUE after Maidana punched holes in them.
Maidana never underperformed.
Yes, he lost to Khan and Alexander, but nothing to be ashamed, these were the best version of Khan and Alexander that ever existed. Khan was a very good boxer at his peek.
Matthysse was a funny guy to watch, but he was highly overrated. casuals felt like he would clean out 147 division. Nothing like that happen, he badly lost to Garcia and Postol at 140 and did nothing at 147.
And he completely sucked in his biggest ever fight against Pacquiao.
Maidana did have a bad night vs alexander, i know he was hugged a lot but he seemed to mentally check out after a few rounds, he says he was sick the night of the fight but either way it was a bad loss, so bad he wanted to retire after the fight.
He went to Garcia after and had the best years of his career so he bounced back well, his loss to kotelnik was close, 7-5 either way and the khan fight was a classic in which he won 6 rounds on one card, obviously he did very well vs Floyd.

I want to say Maidana. Loved his breakout fight with Ortiz. Saw it live and the first round was bonkers. Loved his win over Broner. I was jumping out of my seat almost every round. I know I'll get hate because of my profile pic and name, but I thought he beat Mayweather on their first fight. I would have to watch it again to confirm that Mayweather truly won it, but that was my initial take away when I first watched it live. Never watched it again after that, lol.
Lastly, I think he should of had Khan if he had more time.

Yes, Maidana was a tough dude, my point exactly.
Maidana was better. Matthysse was glorified journeyman, he always came up short in big fights.
Still makes me laugh how was he seen as a boogeyman at 140 before Garcia beat his ass. Postol knocked him out and he looked like a crap against Pacquiao also.
Nobody ever stopped Maidana, was he even dropped? He arguably beat Mayweather.

Lucas wasn't nowhere near a "glorified journeyman" man, that's complete nonsense, put some respect on his name. The guy was more technically sound and skilled than Chino. He sent Lamont Peterson to the goddamn moon, something Errol Spence couldn't even accomplish. Gave us a an all time great war with Provodnikov, hurting and rocking him while a great fighter in Tim Bradley got battered like a red headed stepchild against. Two great fighters that he outperformed against the same opponents.
We all know his orbital getting broken by Postol and Garcia influenced the outcome of those fights. Its part of the game but that doesn't make those injuries irrelevant. That "glorified journeyman" beatsdown every current fighter at 140 sans Taylor. Teo,Regis,Matias and Ramirez get thier asses handed to them by him.

Matthysse was a great fighter unless there was a title on the line. He always came up short although he got robbed against Zab Judah. But he had other opportunities against Danny Garcia and Postol. He should’ve fought for Lamont Petersons IBF title instead of chasing Danny Garcia. It was a bad move making that fight at 141.
Matthysse was more skilled and calculated, more accurate, making his shots more impactful. But he wasn't as gutsy or courageous as Maidana. Their accomplishments/resume/wins are pretty similar level imo
Lucas is more accomplished, obviously, and technically the more sound fighter.
Had a deeper resume
Maidana was a more difficult fighter to prep against.
